The Core i7 processor from Intel is something I’d want to test as soon as possible. It might not be as hot as some people say, but it’s certainly the processor we’ll be using in the future.
Dell has decided it was time it inserted it in some of its desktop systems. And let’s take a look at the first two, the XPS Studio and the XPS 730x. The Studio XPS desktop base model will get you 3GB memory, 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3450 GPU and a 500GB HDD for $949. Willing to pay more? $1,499 will get you 6GB of RAM, a 512MB2 ATI Radeon HD 4850, a 750GB HDD and a 24-inch S2409W Flat panel monitor.
The XPS 730x is gaming-ready. It can hold up to 6GB DDR3 memory, an updated thermal monitoring system and chasis and a choice between ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB and NVIDIA GeForce GTX280 1024MB. The 730x starts somewhere around $2,599 and no matter what hardware you choose, Vista and i7 will be there.
What do you think? Waiting for the Core i7?

The USB 3.0 might be closer than it appears. The USB Promoter Group finalized the “SuperSpeed” USB 3.0 specification today and we are to expect more details to emerge soon.
Flash drives and hard drives are expected to be the first devices to take advantage of the new technology but we’re at least 8 months away from an USB 3.0 product release. The second half of 2009 or even later will bring us the new USB 3.0 ready drives.
How fast is USB 3.0 you ask? Well imagine a 25GB HD movie. With USB 1.0 you would copy it in 9.3 hours. With current USB 2.0 you would do it in 13.9 minutes while with USB 3.0 the job is reduced to 70 seconds. We’re looking forward to a hands-on experience, whenever that will happen! Let’s see what Intel, Microsoft, NEC and Texas Instruments are going to do with the whole USB 3.0 thing!

Intel has a concept MID, based on Moorestown. It’s an ultra-thin device, with touchscreen and a better battery. The prototype was presented at the Intel Developer Forum in Taipei.
Moorestown will use a system-on-a-chip (SOC), aka the “Lincroft”, which will integrate a 45nm processor, graphics, memory controller and video encoder/decoder. The chip will conect to a “Langwell: or a southbridge I/O hub which will support various I/O ports to connect with wireless, storage and display components. There will be 3G, WiMAX, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and mobile TV support and probably a lot more.
The Moorsetown will arrive sometime in not so near future, 2009-2010 to be specific. So then, why not make it a phone then? It might not fit my pockets, but it could be a great phone. We’ll keep you posted on further developments

Netbook manufacturers must have been really happy when they heard Intel is finally ready to ship those new Atom dual core atom chip or the 330.
The 330 Atom chip is just 45-nanometer big and it will have the same 1.6GHz bus speed like the single core version. It will carry 1MB of level 2 cache and it will support DDR2 667 memory. We’re expecting it to have it fully working in netbooks starting… tomorrow?

Are we going to have USB 3.0 ports available inside the upcoming laptops? We’ve been waiting for them for quite a while.
Intel has draft 0.9 ready of the USB 3.0 specification for manufacturers like AMD and NVIDIA. That means that all future motherboards will have offer the same technology so there won’t by any incompatibilities for any of the users.
The move follows AMD and NVIDIA’s threat to develop their version of USB 3.0 if Intel fails to disclose their work on it. Intel excuse was that they simply were not ready yet and they didn’t want to release any unfinished work.
Well than, Intel, AMD or NVIDIA, when am I going to get my USB 3.0 already?

Although it was announced for Q3 2008, the new Intel Atom dual core processor will be available for retail only in the fourth quarter. The new Atom dual core is named Atom 330 and it will have dual 1.6GHz cores, a 533MHz FSB and 1MB cache or 512KB per core.
The dual core will cost $43 compared to the Atom 230, the single core version, which costs $29.
The Intel Atom 330 will be used in future netbooks, MIDs and ultraportables. That means we are likely to see upgraded Eee and Eee clones running on dual core processors.

Intel’s been on a roll since early March and has officially announced the Atom, the Centrino Atom, and Centrino 2. The Intel Atom processor is specifically designed for small, low-powered devices. Despite it measuring less than 25 mm², it still retains the instruction set compatibility of the Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The Intel Atom chip were previously codenamed Diamondville and Silverthorne.
Next is the Intel Centrino Atom processor technology, which is being touted as Intel’s best technology for mobile Internet devices. The Intel Centrino Atom processor technology includes the following: the Intel Atom processor, a wireless radio, and a a low-power companion chip with integrated graphics. It was formerly known as Menlow.
Lastly, Intel has just announced the Centrino 2 mobile technology, formerly known as the Intel Montevina. The Centrino 2 platform is designed for portable computers — Centrino 2 for more common consumer notebooks, and Centrino 2 vPro which is made for business-centric portables. The Centrino 2 brand will also be consisted of low-power processors with TDPs as low as 5W. An improvement in graphics will also be observed due to the usage of GM45 chipset. The Intel Centrino 2 technology, when used, could reportedly produce the longest battery life for notebooks.

We already know that Intel had announced its intentions to enter the mobile phone market with its Menlow mobile internet device (MID) platform and is set to bond with Apple for its next-gen iPhone. At CES, Intel realized this statement by putting up some nonworking, full-scale models of an iPhone-esque device and also working prototypes of its UMPCs based on the Menlow platform with 45nm Silverthorne chips.
According to Intel, its MIDs using Silverthorne chips on the Menlow platform can surpass any other device in the same category available currently, while not taxing battery life, thanks to something called Hafnium that prevents energy leaks. They come either with WiMax or 3G to lower costs and increase battery life.
Coming to the iPhone’s twin, this MID looks desirable even though it does not actually do anything now, being just a mockup and all that. The design is similar to that of an iPhone but slightly elongated with emphasis more on screen than buttons. The interface also looks similar although not to a point of infringing Apple’s patents.

Understanding the value of modern-day mobile gadgetry, Intel has unveiled a new chip geared towards mobile technology use in this year’s CES ‘08. The chip is dubbed “Canmore.” It’s pretty much like the standard Intel chip except it’s designed to handle 3D graphics, surround sound and high-definition video. Canmore was probably an outgrowth of the sluggish pace of the PC world. The Canmore chip will be commercially available by the second half of 2008.
