If you’re on Sprint and really looking to secure yourself an HTC Hero when it is made available, rumors are surfacing that you are now able to pre-order it.
Of course, you’re not going to be able to just hop on their website and slap down a pre-order instead you’re going to have to call up Sprint’s telesales and haggle with them until the let you pre-order it.
Either way, the chances of the HTC Hero completely selling out are slim so you shouldn’t have a problem if you don’t want to deal with Sprint’s customer service.

Cellular South picked the HTC Hero a few weeks ago, and today they started accepting pre-orders for the smartphone. And the best part is that there is a “good” deal to go with it, related to the monthly plans.
At $80 per month you get the best package - Smartphone Unlimited Plan - which includes everything unlimited such as talk, text, web and email. In case you want to add another phone to this plan, it only costs half the price of the original, and for $40 you get the same. The HTC Hero can be pre-ordered online or at Cellular South stores for $100 after rebate.

The Hero is one of HTC’s most coveted phones, featuring a beautiful touchscreen display and most importantly Sense UI. So, it would only make sense that the company would then go on to produce an HTC Hero 2, of sorts, right?
Well, what you see above may be just that as 8080.net claims it is a device that recently found its way through the FCC called the Hero200. Of course, we have no official confirmation but you can clearly see that it’s running the Sense UI but where is the Jay Leno chin?

The HTC Hero is a beautiful device, that’s no secret, and one of the major contributing factors to its beauty is the Sense UI for Android. However, while the device and software was very pleasing to the eyes, users complained of a rather sluggish experience while using the Sense UI.
Luckily, Paul O’Brien over at MoDaCo has gotten his hands on a upcoming Hero software update that will address this exact problem. As you can see in the above video, the Sense UI is a lot more responsive than it was prior to this update which is sure to please just about every HTC Hero owner out there.
There isn’t an exact date for when the update is going to be rolled out but our sources tell us to expect it in the coming weeks.

What you see above is a screen shot of the HTC Hero’s support page over at the official HTC website taken by Engadget.
As you can see, it clearly displays that there will in fact be a CDMA version of the HTC Hero for use on Sprint’s network. There’s no official word on this so it’s possible that Sprint won’t have exclusivity with the device but at least we now know at least one carrier that will be getting the phone.

One of the key features of the HTC Hero is the in-house developed Sense UI for the phone’s Android operating system. It features a beautiful yet useable interface that any user is sure to love, somethign that Windows Mobile has yet to get down.
Luckily, a hacker has been able to port HTC’s Sense UI to run on the Windows Mobile touting HTC Vogue. Sure, the interface is pretty laggy to the point where it’d be more of a pain rather than a pleasure to use but this proves it is possible. Now let’s see where the community will take it.

We’ve seen the phone itself and we’ve seen its rather sexy Sense UI, but we haven’t seen is a proper unboxing of the device. What you see above is just that, an unboxing of the highly anticipated HTC Hero.
As you can see the unboxing features a pretty bland white box which is likely to chance once the handset hits retail.
After the HTC Hero’s unboxing, Android Community played around with the phone and came to a conclusion, “It’s perhaps the best Android device to-date”. That sure sounds promising.
UPDATE: There was a problem with the video so head here to watch the unboxing.

T-Mobile has recently announced that they will be bringing their the HTC Hero rebranded as the G2 Touch to the German market in August as opposed to July as previously thought.
If the price point stays the same you will be able to snag T-Mobile UK’s G2 Touch for free on an 18-month contract with a service plan of at least $60.
If you haven’t been paying attention, this handset will feature HTC’s much sought after Sense UI along with a 320 x 480 touch-screen display, 5MP camera, a trackball, WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sign me up!

Previously thought to be launching on July 15th, it seems that the HTC Hero’s UK launch has been pushed back. This news comes to us from Amazon UK’s HTC Hero product listing that now states the device will be released on July 24th.
Those anxious to get their hands on the handset need not fret as the delay is only about a week. However, since HTC’s Hero has been so well recieved thus far, those who haven’t already pre-ordered probably won’t get their hands on the device until some time after it hits the streets.
Now the question remains, when will we be seeing the HTC Hero on a US carrier? Anyone?

Do you remember when HTC announced that their sleek new user interface dubbed Sense would only be made available for phones without the “with Google” branding? Well it looks like some Italian hackers weren’t pleased with this and decided to take maters into their own hands.
Featured in the above video is a T-Mobile G1 running HTC’s Sense UI and from the looks of it is relatively smooth. Other than Sense’s obvious graphic enhancements this hack will actually enable the G1’s multitouch, a feature that was not enabled out of the box.
Ths hack came about by the Italian group of hackers flashing their G1 with what they are calling the SuperHERO ROM.

Well folks, just about an hour after the HTC Hero’s official website was discovered, HTC went ahead and officially unveiled the phone.
While there aren’t many new details other than what was stated on the website (Qualcomm 528MHz processor, 5MP camera, 3.2″ touch-screen) we do know that the white model will feature Teflon coating to keep it stain (and scratch?) free. However we failed to mention that it will feature a Flash rendering web browser, UI customization, and full integration of social networking sites like Flickr and Facebook.
Furthermore, HTC let us know that the Hero will arrive on an announced carrier in Europe next month and Asia last this summer. As for North America, HTC says it will hit later on in 2009.
We’ll continue to update this post with pictures and information as HTC unveils more.
