  • Sprint just officially announced yesterday that they were gearing up to launch the Samsung Instinct HD on September 27th for $249.99. Now, considering the fact that it is priced so high when compared to the nature of the device you will most likely never get your hands on it.

Thankfully, a YouTube user was nice enough to give us a full hands on preview of the device showcasing features like the preloaded applications (Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc) and the location of that HD video out port.

Anyways, check out the video and let us know what you think of it in the comments.

Zune HD, Already a Best Seller?

The Zune HD has come and it has conquered. Although launched after Apple’s iPod-related media event, the Zune HD quickly became a best seller. It looks like all the major players have run out of Zune HD players for now. At Amazon you’ll have to wait for up to two months to get a 16GB model while a 32GB will be available in up to three weeks. Best Buy has the Zune HD as “backordered” while New Egg has sold out all its available Zune HD. So what do you say Microsoft? How many Zune HD have you sold so far? Did the fact that the iPod touch 3G lacks a camera increase the Zune HD sales? We’ll know more in the near future when we’ll probably be able to compare actual sales figures for both the Zune HD and the iPod touch 3G.

The Samsung Instict HD that was spotted a few months ago, during August, has received a few updates regarding its details: according to phonedog the cellphone will have a price tag between $100 and $150 and the release date is set for a couple of weeks - September 27 - but we’re not sure this is correct because it isn’t official.

In case you don’t remember, the Instict HD (high definition phone) is suppose to record in HD format, comes with a touchscreen, Wi-Fi, and a 5-megapixel camera with TV out function. I guess these are good details until the official word gets out…

We have some good news for future Zune HD owners! According to this pamphlet right here, the Zune Marketplace will be filled with music, HD movies, TV shows and podcasts. The pamphlet has been handed out at Best Buy’s Zune HD showings so it’s as official as it can get. We were kind of expecting HD movies availability from the Marketplace anyway. What else would you need a Zune HD for?

Samsung is ready to launch a new version of the Instinct. This time we’re talking about the Instinct S50 codenamed Instinct HD. It looks like we’re seeing an awful lot of HD devices lately, wouldn’t you say? We have no idea when the phone is coming but it should be available pretty soon considering that it has already passed through the FCC with flying colors. The phone, also known as the m850 Dash should be available in Sprint stores at some point in the future and it will offer you EV-DO and Bluetooth connectivity, WiFi support, and a large enough screen to fulfill your HD dreams.

While we wait for more info, please feel free to enjoy the blurriness of the picture above.

  • 80GB Zune + A/V pack for $149.99

It seems that woot.com’s deal of the day today focuses on Microsoft’s iPod competitor, the Zune. They currently have up for sale a refurbished 80GB Zune in addition to a Home A/V pack for $149.99 plus $5 shipping.

To put this into perspective, a brand new 120GB Zune retails for around $230 while a refurbished 80GB Zune sells for about $170. Add that to the ~$79.99 you’d be paying for a Zune Home A/V pack and you have a deal that you can really woot about.

While this is a great deal, I think I’ll hold off until the Zune HD hits the market.

  • According to the FCC, Creative is on the verge of launching two new MP3 players, the Zii and Zii EGG. Anyone having a deja-vu feeling? These players look similar to the iPod touch and the Zune HD. Which one would you choose?

We don’t have all the specs yet but it’s clear for everyone that these new players will come with HD cameras. This also powers up the rumor according to which iPods are going to get cameras themselves. The Zii and Zii EGG will also come with 802.11b/g WiFi and the Zii system-on-chip.

So what do you say Creative? When are you launching the new players?

Zune HD Ready for Sale by Fall

Remember those Zune HD rumors from a while back ago? Well it looks like the device is really real. Microsoft has announced the Zune HD today and here’s what you can expect from it: 3.3-inch OLED capacitive touchscreen display, built-in HD radio and HD output. We could have some surprises when it comes to apps and games specially conceived for the Zune HD but we don’t have any precise details just yet.

We do know that the Xbox and Xbox Live will get Zune integration and the Zune marketplace will be filled with Live video resources. E3 should bring more information about the Zune HD’s capabilities and extra features. Microsoft is waiting for E3 to reveal more:

attendees will see first-hand how Zune integrates into Xbox LIVE creating a game-changing entertainment experience

By fall you should definitely be able to get the new Zune HD. Just in case you don’t want an iPod instead.

Virgin Media might hold the keys to the future of the Internet. The company is testing 200Mbps speeds which include full HD and 3D broadband content. What will the new modems look like and when should we expect them to be released? Unfortunately for the next six months this DOCSIS 3.0 project will be tested only around Ashford, Kent by around 100 “lead adopters”. Anyone close to that location? We won’t mind should you keep us posted on the whole 200Mbps testing.

    Apple iPhone TV Coming Soon?

The word on the street is that Apple has specific instructions for its retailers to put all those old iPhone/iPod touch A/V cords on clearance as there’s a new set coming. In fact the new cord will support HD output for Apple TV functions. It will use six RCA connectors which will deal very well with both SD or HD content. Now we need more details about what the new iPhone and iPod touch will be able to do when it comes to HD content. The current model can handle HD videos just fine so what’s the next thing do if it needs new a totally new cord?

We’ve seen a lot of Samsung phones released this year but Samsung will release even more. At some recent dealer event in Amsterdam, the cell phone maker leaked 13 new handsets. One of them is that first Android Samsung phone which we’ve seen earlier so we have 12 more to take a look at. Only one phone has been properly announced during the presentation so we don’t have that much to work with besides the picture above.

That phone is the OmniaHD which is a full touchscreen S60 5th Edition. It will be only 12.7mm-thin and it will offer you Windows Mobile 6.5, a 3.7-inch AMOLED display, WiFi, GPS and an 8 megapixel camera that also knows how to shoot 720p videos

Laptops come in all shapes and sizes and normally, specs are important over the outer features. Apparently the HP Pavilion DV6T is a makeover from the previous DV7T laptop that was released last month. And the new offering is certainly enticing considering its specifications.

That includes your choice of 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 or 1GB HD 4650 graphics, which have edged out the previous NVIDIA options, although the rest of the specs seem to have remained largely untouched, including the usual range of Core 2 Duo processors, up to 8GB of RAM, a max 500GB hard drive, and an unfortunately lackluster 1366 x 768 resolution on that 16-inch display.

You can also now get the laptop in your choice of Espresso Black or Moonlight White color schemes, although there seems to be a $25 premium over the $679.99 base price for the latter option

  • They’ve finally done it. And it was about time, if you ask me. The High Definition LED screen is the first true 720p high definition display in Times Square and it’s composed of 1,266,400 LEDs.

Karl Bearnarth, senior vice president, marketing, JVC Company of America says:

Times Square might have changed a bit in the 30 years that JVC has had a presence there, but it continues to live up to its nickname as the ‘crossroads of the world’. For many of the millions of visitors that pass through the area every year, the bright lights and billboards are a main attraction. We think our new high definition billboard will create plenty of excitement thanks to its stunning resolution and our creative use of all three LED display areas.

The giant screen measures 19 x 34 feet and features a 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio and a 1280 x 720 resolution. Another 71-foot LED ticker is running beneath it and curves below the base of the JVC globe. Did I forget to mention the globe, well yeah, there also is the Globe. The Globe that has been marking the northeast Broadway corner with 43rd Street. But it has been refurbished using a high density fluorescent paint, so it’ definitely a must see! Actually I don’t think you can miss it while wandering around Times Square! So be sure to take a look!
