These days, getting media and streams seems to be the way to go and to make sure that mobile devices get them properly on their gadgets, Mo-DV has turned to a technologically new software to make sure it all goes according to plan.

Mo-DV has been awarded a patent for software technology that will revolutionize the way media distributors, retailers, kiosk manufacturers, memory card manufacturers, and even movie studios distribute video and other multimedia content to consumers.

The patent paves the way for millions of consumers to have access to Mo-DV’s innovative technology, which allows media files to be played on most cell phones and computers.

The patent was awarded on the heels of Mo-DV’s first shipping products: USB flash drives with bundled feature-length movies from a major motion picture studio. These products are shipping in the US, Spain, Germany, and Belgium under multiple brands. The technology for which the patent was awarded will allow for high-quality video, movie and media file playback across different computers and mobile devices that support removable storage media (USB flash drive, memory card, hard disk drive).

With this patented technology, consumers can purchase or rent movies and videos and play them on any cell phone or portable computer device they choose, much like a DVD can be played on any DVD player.

The Mo-DV player works across 80 percent of smart phones and on many feature phones. Mo-DV’s technology also can be used to make USB flash drives playback movies and other media content on any PC.

  • Toshiba Wants Fujitsu Hard Drives

Toshiba, one of the world’s largest makers of “flash memory” and computer chips, is reportedly interested in acquiring Fujitsu’s hard-disk drive business. Western Digital was rumored to be interested in Fujitsu as well but it looks like Toshiba has just sweetened the pot with its entry into the fray.

And if the grapevine is true, Fujitsu openly declared that they are negotiating with multiple parties but it looks like Toshiba has the inside track. And with the reputation of Toshiba obviously put into consideration it looks like Fujitsu is barking at the right party to take over.

A deal, which is expected to be priced at between Y30bn-Y40bn ($340m-$450m), would allow Fujitsu to exit another lossmaking hardware business, as the Japanese group seeks to concentrate on higher-margin IT services. Toshiba, meanwhile, would be able to spread its bets in the data storage market.

Here’s a first in the Laptop business. Asus UK have launched the first 1 Terabyte laptop ever. That’s a lot of storage right there. The Asus M70SA is the model we are talking about. The M70SA will pack two 500GB drives for a total of 1TB storage space. You will never delete another file. Well actually you will but you won’t have to.

Let’s see what they’ve managed to pack besides those two hard drives:

    • a 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9300,
    • Windows Vista Ultimate
    • ATI HD3650 with 1Gb VRAM,
    • up to 4Gb of DDRII system RAM,
    • Altec Lansing speakers,
    • Dolby Digital sound,
    • 17″ high definition screen,
    • dual mode multimedia touchpad,
    • integrated TV-tuner,
    • 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi,
    • 1.3 megapixels webcam,
    • Bluetooth connectivity,
    • fingerprint scanner
    • Blu-ray combo drive.

Whew! I got tired just writing all that down. No need to say I’d like one of those babies. And since it’s the season for Batman related products, this Asus will come with a free copy of the Batman Begins Blu-ray DVD.

And here’s where I tell you we don’t have a price yet. Big surprise there. But with all of that hardware put together we should get a few thousand dollars ready. At least you’ll save some money on external drives. If you aren’t going to backup any data that is…

  • Momentus 7200.3

Seagate’s new Momentus 7200.3 hard drive, the first 7,200-rpm, 320GB hard drive for notebooks, are now shipping in select Dell XPS laptops and will also be available in Alienware laptops. I guess this officially marks the entry of the high capacity, high-performance 320GB hard drives - which only means you now have more data to lose if the drive goes bust!

Anyway, jokes apart, the Momentus 7200.3 comes in a 2.5 inch form factor featuring SATA 3.0 Gbit/second interface as well as a 16MB cache that enhances performance. The drive also features G-Force Protection, where a free-fall sensor detects any changes in acceleration equalling the force of gravity, and quickly parking the head off the disk to prevent major damage in a free fall (even as low as 8 inches!).
