See, I told you that jailbreaking your handset could bring on a series of unwanted events your way. It looks like a security vulnerability has been exposed by a Dutch hacker. The hacker gained access to various jailbroken phones and then he sent picture messages demanding a €5 PayPal payment:

If you don’t pay, it’s fine by me, but remember, the way I got access to your iPhone can be used by thousands of others-they can send text messages from your number (like I did), use it to call or record your calls, and actually whatever they want, even use it for their hacking activities! I can assure you, I have no intention of harming you or whatever, but, some hackers do! It’s just my advice to secure your phone.

Luckily enough he did reveal the fix for the problem and it comes free of charge. Did you have any problems with your jailbroken iPhone?

  • Hacker ports Linux to Kindle 2

It was only a matter of time before this happened — A hacker by the name of Jesse Vincent has successfully been able to get Amazon’s Kindle 2 to run Ubuntu 9.04.

Now you may say, who cares it’s just an eBook reader, but perhaps this will unlock some Kindle 2 functionality that no one knew about before. Exactly what, you ask? Well, your guess is as good as mine at this point.

  • One of the main complaints surrounding the Palm Pre is the fact that there is no on screen software keyboard. Instead, every time you want to type a quick message or search for something on the internet, you have to slide out the QWERTY keyboard.

Well, thanks to the guys over at webOS Internals this may soon be a thing of the past as they have unlocked the Pre’s ability to utilize a software keybord. Now, at this point it remains a proof of concept but once they get the bugs worked out there will most likely be a consumer-ready version available for download.

We’ll just have to see how Palm takes to it if/when it’s made available.

Here comes a unique and different type of a game, something that may be of interest to novice hackers wannabe out there. The game calls for a user to try and hack a network of computers using arsenals that include viruses or bounce your connection through hacked servers to avoid being caught. In short, it is similar to any strategy game only that the setting is perhaps a hacker’s haven.

“Hacker Evolution is the first step from a series of innovative and unique games that we are designing and bringing to the iPhone and iPod devices.” said Robert Muresan, Founder and CEO of Exosyphen Studios.

Hacker Evolution is available at the Apple App Store for only $0.99.
