On top of the recently launched GPSMap 640 for road and sea, there are two new models from Garmin: GPSMap 695 and 696. The two new GPS systems can already be bought and have a price tag of $2,700 and $3,300.

Both systems have a 7-inch screen that can be read even on the sunlight, which means that you can easily use it during the sunny days or on the dark nights.

Garmin GPSMap 696

Considered the flagship GPS system for aviation, it boasts XM radio and XM WS Satellite Weather that only works on the US. This functionality is able to provide plenty of weather information related to aviation, such as terminal aerodrome forecasts, temporary flight restrictions, lightnings, winds, turbulence, and other details.

  • Garmin has presented a new GPS system codenamed GPSMAP 640, that will be put on the 2-in-1 category because it can work on the sea, and on the road. The rugged and waterproof GPS has a big 5.2-inch WVGA touchscreen, and as usual, it comes preloaded with maps of North America, plus U.S. coastal BlueChartg2 charts - for the people navigating on the sea.

Thanks to the marine mount, the GPSMAP 640 is able to know when to use the marine mode and the terrestrial mode. While using the marine mode, there is a g2 Vision data card that gives suggestions about the best route to pick, and thanks to photo references, users have an idea of how the ports, marinas, and waterways are suppose to look.

Other details on the GPSMAP 640 - XM WX Sattelite Weather provided by the GXM 40 antenna, which in the end also offers XM Satellite Radio, and XM NavTraffic.

Also with the optional BlueChart g2 Vision technology, the GPSMAP 640 can provide a 3-D “mariner’s eye view,” for a navigation perspective above the waterline, and a “fish eye view” for an underwater 3D bathymetric contour perspective.

The GPSMAP 640 costs close to $1,200.

  • Garmin already has plans to start selling the new 265T and 265TW GPS devices, and for now you can catch them online at GPSNow. While the 265WT has a price tag of $350, his small brother is cheaper and costs $300.

The main difference between each other is the display size. Obviously, the most expensive GPS has a bigger screen that measures 4.3-inches and goes straight to the widescreen category. In the meanwhile, the cheaper system comes with a 3.5-inch display.

Besides the display screen, all the other specifications are the same – which means that you get turn-by-turn directions in form of a male/female voice, hands-free calling so you don’t have any accidents on the road caused by speaking and driving at the same time, preloaded maps by Garmin’s nüMaps Guarantee  which include more than 6 millions points-of-interest, and much more.

A detail that makes the Garmin nuvi 265T and 265WT appealing for everyone is the “Where Am I?” function, so you can always know your location, be it on foot or car.

  • Garmin Nuvifone Postponed to 2009

A phone from Garmin like the Nuvifone is surely a challenge. Unfortunately we’ll be unable to see a Nuvifone this year as it has been postponed to 2009 during Garmin’s latest quarterly conference call.

Apparently carriers have had quite a few demands which were added to the handset, and this whole process is actually taking longer than expected.

In addition, the 860 nüvi comes in with other features ranging from safety camera alerts and emergency location assistance to hands free calling and photo navigation with Google Panoramio.

Furthermore, with the speech control and a Bluetooth link to your phone the nüvi 860 makes calling even safer as it allows you to interact with your phone totally hands free.

Other features include a traffic receiver that can display up to the minute traffic information, a Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free calling when paired with compatible phones and boasts a bright, sunlight-readable 4.3-inch colour touch screen display.

  • Garmin Nuvifone caught on video

Garmin’s first entrant into the cell phone world was caught showing off its wares in Singapore during CommunicAsia, and I can’t help but like that really slick interface! Being a navigator first and a cell phone next, the Nuvifone focuses more on GPS and other GPS-oriented applications, but the big non-multitouch 3.5-inch screen should be perfect for browsing and video watching too. There’s no information on whether it will have some kind of an operating system running but let’s hope it does, or it won’t have a good chance to compete against the other big guns and their touchscreen phones.

Garmin seems to be on a roll this year what with its 2008 GPS lineup and the spanking new GPS phone. The latest news we get is on the automobile front, where Garmin has teamed up with Ford to provide navigation systems on their E and F-Series Super Duty pickups, the 2009 F-150 to be exact. While no specific Garmin model was revealed in the announcement at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show, this collaboration as part of Ford Work Solutions promises to bring “connectivity, flexibility, and security” to business owners with increased productivity.

Apart from the usual navigational features of route planning and POIs, an integrated dashboard computer will provide high-speed internet access to Garmin’s exhaustive online services, providing real-time data related to traffic conditions, weather, and fuel prices. The integrated PC will also print out invoices, perform inventory checks, and provide remote access to the owner’s home/office networks, making jobsite operations much more easier.

The 2009 F-190 Super Duty truck will be available at an undisclosed price this fall.

Garmin, a company best known for their GPS device navigators, is taking on the mobile phone market with the new Garmin nüvifone. The nüvifone, in accordance with Garmin’s legacy, is a phone and a GPS navigator in one. In fact, the president and COO proclaims it the “single device that does it all,” which eerily reminds me of LOTR (…one ring to rule them all…). This LOTP (Lord of the Phones), nüvifone, features a 3.5-inch display which has three main options: Phone, Search, and Navigation. To call people, users simply need to press the green “Phone” option on the screen. It also automatically transforms into a navigation device when docked onto your automobile. The Garmin nüvifone features Google local search capability, “Where am I?” feature which allows users to see exactly where they are via coordinates, and Garmin online, an online service which shows users the fuel prices, real-time traffic, etc. The Garmin nüvifone comes equipped with 3.5G capability, a camera, and a multimedia player. Projected launch is on Q3 2008.

  • Garmin Edge 705 and 605

Garmin, now the #1 personal navigation device seller in the US, announced two new devices in its Onto Fitness series for cyclists. The Garmin Edge 705 (left) and Edge 605 (right) both feature a 2.2″ color screen and offer turn-by-turn directions. The usual add-ons include detailed street maps and topography of the region. Both devices can display climb/descent, altitude, speed, distance and time. With the recent Garmin ANT+Sport technology incorporated into the Edge navigation devices, they can seamlessly interface with other fitness devices such as a heart rate monitor or even other Edge units. This lets cyclists share courses, workout data and saved rides.

The Edge 705 improves upon the 605 by incorporating a barometric altimeter to accurately record altitude data, letting cyclists match their altitude profile with their speed/heart rate for a etter post-ride analysis. It also features a heart rate monitor that uses new wireless technology to eliminate cross talk and interference and delivers real-time heart rate data onto the user’s device.

By pairing your Garmin Edge 605 or 705 with Garmin Connect, an online training site, you can network with other cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts, log their workouts and share yours.

The Edge 605 carries a price tag of US $399.99 while the Edge 705 starts from US $499.99. Add on a heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor to bring it to US $549.99. Throw in an ANT+Sport bundle for $649.99. Everything will be available in December 2007.
