What you see above is MSI’s recently announced GT640 gaming laptop which the manufacturers are touting as the “world’s most powerful gaming notebook”.

Under the hood of this beast is a 1.6GHz Core i7 720QM processor and a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 with 1GB of dedicated RAM. Couple this with a 15.4″ 1680 x 1050 resolution display, up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 500GB of hard drive space, a Blu-ray burner, 2MP webcam, HDMI port, eSATA input and last but not least 7.1 channel audio output.

Now, there was no mention of a release date but considering it is shipping with Windows 7 preinstalled, we can only assume that it will go up for sale sometime around the software’s October 22nd release date.

It looks like Sony’s PlayStation 3 Slim was the thing Nintendo needed to cut down the price of its popular Wii console by $50. If you want to play motion controlled games you can get the Wii right now or the iPhone 3GS for the same price. The Wii’s new and very official price is $199.99, and although its graphics could be significantly improved, it still offers a better gaming experience than the iPhone or iPod touch when it comes to motion controlled games.

And that’s $100 less than the PS3 Slim! It will be interesting to see if Nintendo can stop the Slim’s popularity. Sony has sold over 1 million Slim consoles in less than three weeks and it’s getting ready to launch the 250GB PS3 Slim version. So what will you choose now folks? The cheaper Wii or the smaller Slim?

Quake Games Coming to the iPhone

Sony should work harder on that PSP phone! If they don’t then everyone will soon start purchasing iPhones and iPods to play cool games while on the go. The new iPhone 3GS is definitely a better gaming platform than its predecessors and games like the Quake trilogy will be easily adapted for it.

Quake 1, 2 and Arena are said to be available soon for the iPhone which means you’ll be able to enjoy once again a game that you’ve played for hours when you were younger. Besides Quake you can expect to play other similar titles like Wolfenstein RPG, Doom 2 RPD and Doom Classic on the iPhone 3GS. Would it be too much to ask for multiplayer modes for some of these games?

While we all got slightly excited to hear that Microsoft’s Project Natal is underway we should postpone whatever excitement we have left for later. And by later we mean not 2010. Microsoft will not release a new Xbox 360 console next year so we can say bye-bye to Project Natal for a while. Wii sales will probably go up as there’s no other gesture-controlled game console out there yet.

It looks like Steve Ballmer’s words were misinterpreted and turned into a wild rumor that circled around the Internet for a few days. According to Microsoft’s spokesmen, the current Xbox will be available for quite a while now and the next console will be available even later. Project Natal will be a part of the future Xbox 360 but there’s no specific date for it.

While everyone’s eyes and ears are wrapped around the iPhone 3G S or the Pre these days we, Microsoft is quietly getting ready to go for the gold in the gaming industry. As expected Microsoft has done it! The company has a new console ready to take advantage of your every move and gesture. Called Project Natal, the new console will be available in stores next year, although there’s no definitive date just yet. We have no prices either but by 2010 Steve Ballmer should definitely uncover more hot details about the new gadget. For now he has confirmed to those present at The Executives Club of Chicago that the Xbox 360 motion control interface will be available in 2010. Ready for some competition all mighty Wii?

There’s no Sony Ericsson PSP phone yet but there’s a new PSP ready to be unveiled by Sony. Luckily for all of us Sony has managed to leaked it over and now we get to at least look at it. The new handheld gaming console will be probably announced at the E3 2009 but by that time we will already know what it looks like. The PSP Go, that’s the name of it, is a slider ready for lots of gaming on the go. It will supposedly offer you 16GB of internal memory, built-in Bluetooth and a memory slot. There’s no price and availability date for the Go just yet so we’ll be looking closely for that official and hopefully very revealing press release. What we do know for sure is that this PSP Go doesn’t come with any phone capabilities yet.

Review: Microsoft SideWinder X3 Mouse

Microsoft recently unveiled the latest addition to the SideWinder line, the new SideWinder X3 Mouse. Designed for convenient use by both left- and right-handed folks, it comes in a smaller shape as well, along with plenty of control features for gaming.

One of the coolest features, like the other SideWinder mice, is the ability to switch mouse dpi on-the-fly. With three buttons, you can customize the desired dpi setting for each button and switch among them without having to access the Control Panel each time. That’s an increase in productivity right there, especially since you can continue with the game while setting the desired sensitivity at the click of a button. To set the sensitivity, open the Microsoft IntelliPoint software (bundled with the device), and under the “Sensitivity” tab, choose the dpi settings that you prefer.

  • Remember back when computer gaming was defined by simple games you carried around on various types of storage devices? You don’t? Well in that case you’re either 16 or you lived in a parallel dimension back in the 80’s.

Nowadays designers like iBUYPOWER can set the trends. And as rumor has it they just hooked up with Newegg, creating not some kind of mutant eggs, but three new gaming machines around the Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 processors and incorporating very nicely NVIDIA 9500GT video cards, a lot of RAM and HDD space. Perfect for your gaming activities.

For more console details check the table below. I say their new creations are cheap bargains for all gamers out there, coming out soon in stores with pricing ranging from $500 to $1,000.

  • To tell you the truth I am not sure what this Zii Steamcell Computing from Creative is. For now it’s just a teaser page and a link to Zii. com that says “Everything you know is about to change…”

So what is it? Is it a new gaming platform? Should we imagine a competitor for the Wii? It’s awfully similar to the Wii in terms of text fonts. Do we want a product similar to Wii from Creative? Will it have the same success? Will it be cheaper? And what’s with all that Steamcell Computing? When will we have some answers?

So many questions, so little time!

Our guests today are Sony Ericsson and Zeemote. You know of course what Sony Ericsson does for a living, but you might not recognize Zeemote. Zeemote is a manufacturer of wireless controllers for mobile devices. Therefore the two companies signed a partnership to bring near-console game play to Sony Ericsson’s W760i. Sony Ericsson is going to launch Zeemote JS1 controller with Bluetooth technology in an exclusive promotion in Netherlands.

With Apple’s iPhone redefining wireless gaming, it’s no surprise Sony Ericsson wants to stay in the gaming game.
