We know 5 megapixellers are so passé now that the 8-megapixel war has started already, but since they aren’t out on the shelves yet, the European Imaging & Sound Association has awarded the S60-powered Samsung G810 its European Photo Phone Award for its outstanding 5-mpx lens and other photo-centric features. Well deserved, we should say, given features like face detection, image stabilization, panorama mode, macro shot, and multishot but the other features ignored by the EISA like its GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and HSDPA support are equally awesome in our eyes. Congrats Samsung. Hope the Innov8 can recreate the magic for you same time next year!

Toshiba’s Protege G810 is all set to enter the touchscreen fray on June 20, 2008. Like the Omnia or the Touch Diamond, the G810 runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 with Toshiba’s homemade UI. You will find the same components such as aGPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and microSD slot with a slightly smaller 2.8-inch touchscreen. Toshiba has also thrown in a middle-of-the-road 3-megapixel camera into the mix along with HSDPA/HSUPA support.
If Toshiba’s earlier announcement holds true, then the Protege G810 will first make an appearance in various European markets come June 20th.

Touted as the first direct and most ferocious competitor of the Nokia N95 as well as the company’s new flagship model, is Samsung’s new G810 cell phone, which was presented during the MWC. The phone, which runs on Symbian S60, has a 2.6-inch TFT QVGA display and a 5-megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom and xenon flash. It has a TV-Out and 3.5mm audio jack, built-in GPS receiver, WiFi connectivity, 150 MB built-in memory, microSD card slot, and Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0 connectivity. The Samsung G810 is GPRS/EDGE capable with HSDPA support. The combination of a camera and built-in GPS receiver means you can geotag your photos using the Samsung G810. Other than that, the phone can also be integrated with Google, GoogleMap, GMail, and YouTube. Not bad, eh?
