Top 5 Free Blackberry Apps Named

With the growing number of Blackberry phone users today, the next thing they need would be the apps to install in them. And while the Blackberry App World has now become accessible to most, the next thing that comes into mind is which apps are free and ideal to have.

If you have a Blackberry or are planning to get one, here are the top 5 apps you may want to consider:

  1. Blackberry App World 1.1. App that allows you to store apps to your Blackberry’s memory card.
  2. Ka-Gloom Free. A high-pressure game of falling blocks.
  3. Pandora. Music-playing app for the listening pleasure of Blackberry owners.
  4. Weather Eye. Aids in providing weather information for any city.
  5. Viigo. News-gathering app for the latest news and information.

Go fishing with your iPhone and net yourself a date with the WhosHere app. If you are simply out to make friends, broaden your cyber circle of friends by meeting new people via this app, touted to be among the top 5% free apps running across the Admob network.

WhosHere is a social proximity application that enables users to meet friends, potential dates or network through an exceptionally simple interface. WhosHere will show you matches that are near you or anywhere in the world based on your answers to a few questions about yourself and who you are interested in meeting. It takes the chance out of the chance encounter. When you find someone you want to talk with, you can send unlimited, free text and image messages to them; all within the WhosHere application.

The WhosHere app is available for free download at the iTunes App Store.

Apple to Phase Out Free Apps

Thanks to a study conducted on the iPhone owners who download free applications for their iPhone, it looks like Apple will be phasing out the free apps and require application downloaders to pay for the apps that they want.

The reason behind this is to preserve the value of the applications to which only 30 percent of users who fetch new applications usually vacate them after the first install.

“Paid applications generally retain their users longer than free applications, although the drop-off is still pretty steep,” a Pinch Media spokesperson said.

Throughout the RIM BlackBerry Storm vs Apple iPhone debate, most people supported one phone over the other based solely on the number of free applications available for the device.

While both mobile phones do offer an online store to retrieve free and paid applications, smartphone users should base their choice on the quality and usability of the mobile device and not its app store.
