HTC HD2/Leo Announced Officially

It’s finally happened! The HD2 or Leo is now an official HTC phone. It has been confirmed by both Microsoft and, more importantly by HTC.

The HD2 is a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone which will bring you a confirmed 4.3-inch capacitive WVGA touchscreen display, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, a 5-megapixel camera, WiFi, Microsoft Exchange, proximity and light sensors and a Twitter application, HTC Peep.

The phone will be available in France from Orange this month with other European markets to follow soon. U.S. customers will see the HD2 only early next year so you’ll have to wait a while to get it. Official pricing for the HD2 hasn’t been announced yet. How much would you pay for it?

  • LG GW620 Android Phone Spotted

We’ve been waiting for a few months now to see LG’s Android phone, the GW620, become official. Although no North American carrier will launch the GW620 is supposed to officially debut in Europe by the end of the year. And it looks like it has already been spotted on French territory and captured on video. The phone will offer you a 3-inch resistive touchscreen display, a full QWERTY keyboard, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and a 3.5mm headphone jack. And if Motorola has MOTOBLUR on top of Android, LG made sure its proprietary S-Class UI will work well under Android conditions too. We don’t have pricing details just yet but at least we can see the LG GW620 in action.

  • If you happen to own an Omnia i900 phone from Samsung then you might be one of those lucky fellows that can honestly say they have taken a peak at Samsung’s upcoming Application Store. Unfortunately you’d have to go the UK, Italy or France as that’s where the store has been made available so far.

The store offers so far about 300 paid apps and lots of free apps ready to be installed on your Samsung phones. By the end of the year Samsung will have around 2,000 apps in the store. It’s not too much, but it’s a healthy start. Besides the i900, the Omnia II I8000 and the Omnia LTE B7300 will also get support for accessing the new Application Store. Anyone excited about the new app store?

The Samsung Star S5230 or the Player One is a great featurephone, but as we all know, in France, home to the fashion capital of the world, great features just won’t do, right? So, to dress things up a little, Samsung joined forces with the popular French fashion house, Zadig and Voltaire, and the result is something that the French can tote around without being ostracized.  The Z&V version of the S5230 boasts of a full black metal finish with purple contours, a pair of silver wings above the display, and a crown on the navigation key (trademarks of Z&V).  No info on pricing or availability, but don’t have hopes to see this outside of France anytime soon.

  • For Samsung, it has always been about a good name that people tend to remember better than just a bunch of numbers.  But this time, it’s the carrier who seems to be interested in a name than number for Samsung’s first Android device, the i7500.  The i7500 is on its maiden voyage to France, with the carrier, Bouygues Telecom, announcing that July will be the lucky month, a few weeks later than the rumored June release date, and will be rechristened as the Samsung Galaxy for the French masses.  We are not sure if Samsung will pick the same Galaxy tradename in other regions, but we have to admit, it does have a nice ring to it.

Acer has a 10-inch Aspire One netbook coming our way. The D150 will be available in three versions which will go on sale in February. The D150-0B is the entry-level model which will cost around $425 and will sport the usual 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD and a 3-cell battery.

The other two models, the D150-1B and the D150-2BG are coming in March and they will bring you a better Atom processor and integrated mobile broadband. The D150-1B will come with a 6-cell battery and it will cost $450. The D150-2BG will use Intel Atom’s 1.66GHz N280 processor and it will come with 3G quadband UMTS/HSDPA mobile broadband. A 6-cell battery is also present which will bring the total price to $575.

Bear in mind that these models are scheduled for a France release, but they will probably arrive in other markets too.

Orange France is ready to do to the iPhone what we’ve all been secretly dreaming about. The French carrier is going to cut the iPhone 3G price to 99 Euro for the holiday season. That’s $126 in US money for the $8GB model. And that’s a 45 Euro price drop from the initial price of the $8GB iPhone.

The 16GB iPhone 3G will also get a price cut although it’s not official yet. It’s rumored that the 16GB model will cost 129 Euro instead of just 199. In US dollars that’s a drop from $253 to $164. The offer will be available from November 13th to January 14th, so if in France, go iPhone!

So AT&T, with the Storm coming, would you consider significant price cuts?

Orange France has admitted that it has tampered with iPhone 3G speeds. Its excuse is that the decision was taken in order to keep the network as stable as possible. Well I didn’t know the iPhone 3G will make any network unstable. (more…)

  • Get a Prepaid 3G iPhone in France

Like everyone else you probably want an unlocked, possible jailbroken 3G iPhone don’t you? And for the subsidized price right? Well you can either wait for iPhone Dev Team’s Pwnage Tool 2.0 to be released to manually hack your iPhone or you can head to France and order a prepaid 3G iPhone. Sure the price isn’t that great but at least you won’t be tied to a 2 year agreement.

  • July 11th is slowly getting here. Apple is preparing the official launch for 22 countries and carriers around the world will be trying to make the most of those first days. Orange has just announced their pricing offer for France. The iPhone will be available starting July 17th in France for both personal and business usage.

Orange has about 66% 3G coverage in France so I guess they can afford to do as they please when it comes to iPhone pricing and plans. The 8GB iPhone will cost 149 Euro or about $233 and the 16GB version will cost 199 Euro or about $313. Just a few dollars more than what AT&T has to offer.

As for plans you will be able to choose from the “Orange for iPhone” plans (check the picture above), or the Origami Star (from 3 hours), First or Jet plans. Should you want other plans, excepting time-cutoff and pay-as-you-go plans, the 8Gb iPhone will come to 199 euro while the 16Gb model will be 249 euro.

Orange in France Gets Apple iPhone

    iPhone France

It’s about time (and official) - France will be getting the Apple iPhone exclusively through Orange. It is scheduled to go on sale on November 29. As in other parts of the world, Apple will be selling only the 8GB model and it carries a price tag of €399 including VAT. Of course, you will be forced to go into subscription for one of the “dedicated rate plans”.

After having the iPhone for close to four months now, I must say I should have waited for iPhone 2.0. About the only time I use it is when looking up directions on Google Maps. Ever tried looking up a contact? With more than 600 contacts on my iPhone (which I carefully synced to my laptop over Bluetooth - from my Nokia N73), searching for someone whose last name you don’t remember can be quite a pain in the wrong places.

  • Acer P700 Series GPS Portable Navigator

    Acer p700 series GPS

Acer announced a new addition to its family of personal navigation devices with the introduction of the new Acer p-700 series for use in your vehicle. Acer seems to be in the process of adding new verbs to our vocabulary as well, calling it a plug and drive device. The p-700 series features a standard 4.3″ touchscreen. Two variants are currently available in the series are the p710 and p730. Both come with regional or European maps. In addition, the p730 is equipped with Traffic Message Channel (TMC) functionality for accessing up-to-the-minute traffic info. If you are in France or the UK, the p730 uses Premium TMC services from V-Traffic and ITIS respectively.

For navigation, there’s Copilot 7, offering 2D/3D views. A Driver Safety mode dislays a single yellow arrow indicating the route and next action, without showing you a dozen roads and confusing you. Or, you can do a 180° shift and take advantage of the Map View Maximizer technology that displays all pertinent info in a single glance. Tons of POIs are available as usual. Powered by the latest SiRF Star III 20-channel GPS receiver, it measures 123mm x 96mm x 24mm and weighs in at 240 grams. A bit heavy in your pocket, but that’s life.

There’s also a photo viewer on-board. Voice prompts are available in 16 pre-installed languages. Packaging includes a car-mount kit, charger, PC connectivity cable, AC adapter and DVD plus docs.
