Symbian^4 is not yet available but we have started seeing it mentioned around the Internet. David Wood, the “Catalyst and Futurist” of the Symbian Foundation said in a recent interview that Symbian S60 will definitely be phased out in the near future. The Avkon API will be replaced by the UI toolkit Qt once Symbian^4 is available. That means that most S60 applications won’t be compatible with the future Symbian OS. In case you’re a developer you should take this into consideration before developing any hot app for Symbian S60. Symbian^4 will arrive later next year so better get ready for the imminent death of Symbian S60. What are your thoughts on that?

That’s right folks, the Symbian Foundation needs some help from anyone interested in Nokia’s future open OS! Scott Weiss, the Technology Manager of the Symbian Foundation has opened the UI conversation to the world. A new blog has been created, the “Symbian UI Brainstorm” which accepts suggestions from any interested Symbian lovers. Simply put your thoughts on virtual paper, and send it over. Whether they turn out to be complaints or useful suggestions, they should help the Symbian Foundation create the future Nokia OS.
On a different note, shouldn’t we be alarmed by the fact that the Symbian Foundation desperately needs feedback?
