It’s not the perfect title I could have come up with and I certainly do not advise anyone to steal any iPhone or any other gadget for that matter. But since the iPhone 3G/3GS is a pretty cool handset we will probably end up hearing funny stories about how some not-so-smart muggers got caught after stealing their first iPhone.
So if you’re a future iPhone thief you should know that any iPhone you might want to steal could have the Find My iPhone feature enabled. Find My iPhone will show owners the location of their lost handset provided they have a MobileMe account. But guess what people? The feature can be immediately turned off by a smarter thief and you won’t be able to track your iPhone anymore. Just go to the MobileMe account and turn off Find My iPhone. Or turn off Location Services from General settings. After that go home and reset the phone completely and voila, you have a new iPhone.
With all these in mind we will be waiting for the first funny stories depicting stolen iPhones. And what have we learned from this story kids? Always protect your iPhone with passwords. Unless you work for some secret agency in which case you surely can track any phone and people don’t exactly get to rob you.
