21 Feb 10 Fennec Alpha 4 Browser for Windows Mobile

firefox-logoThe last time we mentioned the Fennec Browser from Mozilla it was in Alpha 2, and that was on June 2009. More recently they have decided to release the Fennec Alpha 4 Browser.

In this new version there are a couple of improvements, such as being able to scroll frames, better user interaction, better keyboard response, new zoom feature, and being faster in general.

03 Jan 10 Firefox Release Candidate 1 for Maemo aka Fennec

In case you are the proud owner of a Nokia N900 or N810 you can now use a “new” browser on your smartphone which is also known as Mozilla Firefox RC1 Fennec.

This is an upgrade of a previous beta version and fixes some specific N900 bugs, but it also brings new features to the table such as a password manager, tabbed browsing, desktop synchronization, an awesome bar, and also an easy way to add bookmarks.

Just visit the mobile version of the Mozilla website – http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/m/ – and get ready to receive an upgrade, that is, if you already have the other beta installed. The software is available in many languages including Arabic, German, Russian, Italian, Japanese, and others.

29 Jun 09 Windows Mobile gets Fennec Alpha 2

If you’re looking for a Windows Mobile alternative to the stock web browser, Mozilla’s recently released Fennec Alpha 2 may be of interest to you. In essence, Fennec is the mobile version of Firefox. Of course, it’s in an Alpha stage right now so expect some bugs.

Below are the improvements to Alpha 2 over Alpha 1:

  • Improved panning performance
  • Newly designed theme
  • JavaScript error console is now built in
  • Improved add-on support
  • Numerous bug fixes
  • Improved UI polish

Despite Fennec Alpha 1 only being available for HTC Touch Pro users, Alpha 2 has been made available for anyone and everyone running Windows Mobile 6.

Download it here.

18 May 09 Fennec Alpha 1 released for Windows Mobile 6

Ah, yes.  The above statement should have most of our Windows Mobile users scrambling for a download link already, if they are as fanatic as me about Firefox Desktop, so here it is (9.4MB heavy).  But keep in mind that this release has been tested on the HTC Touch Pro only, so if you are installing it on any other device, just beware.  For those who still think Internet Explorer is the only gateway to browse the world on a Windows Mobile, give the Fennec a try and you might just end up liking it.  I just hope they have ideas to enable add-ons (just like the desktop version) when the final version is released.

16 May 09 Firefox Mobile Alpha Ready for Windows Mobile?

Fennec or Firefox Mobile is still in the making. That means that Mozilla is testing its mobile browser for various mobile platforms. Firefox Mobile is currently available for Windows Mobile 6 but it’s still in its alpha state.

The alpha has been particularly made for the HTC Touch Pro, so if you own one you can try the Fennec out. The alpha version will offer you the Awesome Bar search field front and center, suggested search terms and search history. Mozilla built the interface for alpha 1 for Windows Mobile using CSS. That means that Fennec will be able to adjust to various screen sizes and resolutions.

You should definitely try out the alpha 1 but don’t expect too much from it just yet. Bugs may still be present so make sure you offer some feedback about all that Fennec experience to Mozilla. And let us know what you think about it.

11 Feb 09 Mozilla Fennec Available for HTC Touch Pro Owners

We have been waiting for quite a while now for the Fennec and a primitive beta is up for grabs. For those of you that don’t know it, it’s the Mozilla mobile Firefox browser.

And the beta version is primitive because it’s still an early version of the mobile browser. One that is available for now only for HTC Touch Pro owners. This version will have no support for soft keyboards, automatic version updating or plugins. Other than that, Touch Pro owners should experience the Internet the Mozilla way on their phones now. Would you take Fennec for a spin?

27 Jan 09 Firefox Mobile to Arrive to HTC Touch Pro Next Week

Firefox Mobile is finally ready to enter the mobile market. We’ve been waiting for quite a while for Fennec and it seems that HTC Touch Pro owners will be able to load it up on their device next week. We’ve seen it run on a Nokia Internet Tablet before, and those guys at Mozilla surely know how to build a good browser. I’m a huge fan of Mozilla Firefox myself so I’d expect the mobile version to offer us the same great web browsing experience. We’re waiting for an official release as I am sure not only HTC Touch Pro owners need a new browser!

17 Jul 08 Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta Launched into the Wild

Although it was initially scheduled to be released two days ago, the Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta launched today. You can download it and test it out as long as you have a Windows Mobile 5 or 6 powered touchscreen-only smartphones.
The two days delay was caused by the discovery of some bugs which needed to be taken care of prior to the release.
