The FCC is investigating Google’s Google Voice application but apparently that’s not enough for Google to stop blocking numbers. The Commission is interested in how Google Voice works and it wants to know exactly how and why the app blocks certain numbers.
Google has raised the number of blocked numbers to 100. That’s a lot more numbers than it used to block. Google thinks that these numbers are “engaged in… schemes” which happen to raise carrier costs. So it seems that Google saves you some money. Is that going to be enough for the FCC? Will Google have to unblock all these numbers soon?

LTE is getting closer and closer and Samsung is getting ready for the new telecommunication standard. The Korean company has already developed another LTE USB modem and the FCC is currently reviewing it. Unfortunately we have no details about the device and we don’t even have a name for it. Listed as the A3LSLCU100, this LTE modem could be one of Kalmia’s brothers. No pictures of the devices are available at this point as Samsung has a 180 days confidentiality window that begun on September 24. That means we will be in for a long wait until we’re going to see the A3LSLCU100 in the flesh. Anyone excited about LTE yet?

The latest Blackberry smartphone buzz out there has to be leaning more towards the Blackberry Bold 9700. And while it has gained FCC approval, indications on what company would be carrying it was practically given away thanks to the AWS (WCDMA Band IV) which pointed to this being a T-Mobile version phone. Now all you have to do is wait and see when it will officially be coming out and how much it would cost.

A new cellphone has been seen at FCC, which is made by Motorola and codenamed i410. For now there aren’t many details available, but what we do know is that the i410 comes with entry-level features and is an iDEN-Based phone.
The so called entry-level features include an external display of small dimensions, a speakerphone, access to the internet, and PTT capabilities on top of normal messaging. Some rumours mention extra features that include GPS and bluetooth, but those are not confirmed.
We’ll keep waiting for more news about the Motorola i410 and we’ll keep you updated!

Remember how AT&T complained to the FCC about Google’s Google Voice application? Apparently the FCC took things very seriously. The Commission is now investigating Google. It looks that the feature of Google Voice that lets the app block certain call poses a serious issue. Google Voice does block calls to rural services, conference call services and chat lines in order to help the user save some money. But that’s not exactly the best of intentions is it?
FCC has sent a letter to Google asking it about the way calls get routed with Google Voice and how the whole numbers blocking works. We’ll be curious to see what the FCC has to say about Google Voice. Google on the other hand will defend itself by saying it’s only offering a software solution which can’t be subject to carrier laws. In other words, it will be some time until we see Google Voice on any iPhones!

It has been tradition for the FCC to take a phone apart so that they can carefully check and scrutinize all internal components before approving them. The latest phone that underwent the knife is the much publicized Nokia X6 which is scheduled to be released by the end of the year. As you can see, it is a far cry from the Nokia X6 which was reported here at mobilewhack last month.
The Nokia X6 features a 3.2” touchscreen, a 5 megapixel camera and even a TV out. It comes with 32GB of internal storage and will retail for about $459.

Sonim’s latest rugged phone, the XP2, got the nod from the FCC after passing various tests that phones are required to go through. Dubbed as the Sprint, it is the first handset from Sonim with 3G capability. It also has a tiny display via its octagon-shaped housing that is built for durability and survival. No word yet on pricing and when it would be available in the market.

It looks like Apple is planning to launch a brand new Bluetooth Keyboard coupled with a new Mighty Mouse. We don’t have the specs but the FCC does. Apple’s models A1314 and A1296 will probably replace the current wireless keyboard, the A1255 and the current Mighty Mouse, the A1197. What we know so far is that the future keyboard is going to be even smaller than the current model while the new Mighty Mouse will be even more interesting as it is rumored to be made of aluminum and bring some new multitouch features to iMac owners. Unfortunately we’ll have to wait a while until we see them as Apple made sure only the FCC will have access to pictures of these new peripherals.

Earlier this month we got our first glimpse of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness, a candy bar styled phone with a transparent display.
Well, today, the same device has appeared at the FCC who have given the device the go ahead. Unfortunately, there isn’t much regarding specs other than what we already know but the good news is the Xperia Pureness is a few steps closer to hitting North American store shelves.

Fortunately for Android fans there’s another phone coming your way from HTC that’s going to run Google’s OS. The Desire is the phone in question and it looks like the handset have been blessed by the FCC. The phone might be heading to Verizon soon and it could become the first Android phone to be sold by Big Red. Besides being approved by the FCC, the phone has also received WiFi certification from the WiFi Alliance. And that’s all the news there is to it. Hopefully the Desire will be at least as hot as the Hero and we envision it coming with Donut on and HTC Sense UI on top. What do you think?

Talk about an unforeseen turn of events! It looks like none other than AT&T is asking the FCC to investigate Google Voice. AT&T has been rumored to be the muscle behind Apple’s decision to keep Google Voice out of the App Store and now the carrier is fighting back. AT&T claims that Google Voice is responsible for blocking calls which is contrary to federal call-blocking regulations. All calls have to be permitted, no matter who you’d want to call. Google Voice is responsible for blocking calls to “adult-chat lines and conference call services, which charge expensive access fees.” We can deal with blocked conference calls but no adult-chat connections? FCC certainly has to look into that. After all anyone should be able to call adult-chat lines whenever they please!
I wonder how many adult-chat lines / conference call services AT&T has tried before finding this anomaly in Google’s Google Voice service. So let’s see what the FCC will have to say about all this. After all the same commission punished AT&T when they were doing some call blocking of their own a couple of years ago so Google might have some explaining to do. Will be back with more details about the AT&T-Google-Apple “love” triangle in the following weeks as this soap opera is getting more and more interesting to follow.

People in the UK may be getting their hands on it first, but at least the FCC approval denotes that the Tattoo is one step further on in getting to the good ol’ USA. You know what it’s made of already but in brief, the Tattoo will be the fourth device from HTC to jive with Android and comes with quadband GSM/EDGE/HSDPA900/1700/2100 network support, a 3.2 megapixel camera, GPS, microSD support and a touchscreen display that is too small to be capacitive. Won’t be long before we hear the trumpets blowing for this little fella in the US.

You’d think this is just another iPhone case and you woudn’t be that wrong. But the truth is that this Pong case for iPhones has something special. It looks like the Pong Research Company has been looking into various ways to reduce radiation coming from the antenna and found an answer. The case is made from tight silicone skin. The skin has some kind of technology module in it designed to draw energy away from your head without sacrificing signal strength. The case costs $59.95 and BlackBerry owners are also going to get Pong cases soon.
And in case you need some numbers to crunch before deciding to get your Pong case, according to FCC testing the radiation levels are lower by up to 60% and hotspot cell phone radiation are lower by 85% when using the case. Happy now?

For what it’s worth, Apple has made an official statement regarding the much celebrated issue concerning the rejection of the Google Voice for the iPhone. Well actually they are denying the claims og Google Inc. that that the app has been rejected. In fact, Apple is still in the process of studying the Google Voice app. They are making sure that it doesn’t replace the core mobile telephone functionality of the iPhone.
As you may probably know, the FCC has stepped in to get to the bottom of the issue. From the looks of it, nothing has been resolved and negotiations are still being done. Now why would Google make such a declarative statement if Apple is indeed still studying the app. Someone is lying here!

The FCC is still investigating the rejections of Google’s Google Voice application from the App Store. We’ve seen AT&T’s and Apple’s response related to Google Voice but the best part, Google’s letter to the FCC hasn’t been available to the public in its full version until now. The FCC decided to reveal the whole letter and you can check it out for yourself by following the link below.
So why has Apple rejected Google Voice? From the correspondence between Apple’s Senior VP of Worldwide Product Marketing, Phil Shiller and Google’s Senior VP of Engineering & Research, Alan Eustace there only a conclusion to be drawn: it seems that the “application duplicated the core dialer functionality of the iPhone” and that was an unwanted scenario. But wait a minute, didn’t Apple say they are still revising the app? Well it looks like Apple told Google that Google Voice has been rejected from the store. Did Apple lie in its response to the FCC?
We’ll see how this conflict develops in the future as there’s no clear conclusion about the future of Google Voice for iPhone so far.

A new iPAQ seems to be heading to AT&T, at least according to the FCC. The K3 is going to have GSM and HSPA support for the 850/1900MHz bands which means that AT&T is the designated carrier. And to make it even clearer, there’s AT&T SKU written all over the ID label available right here. The K3 Obsidian is probably going to run Windows Mobile but we have no idea when it’s coming out. Should we simply assume that HP will launch it sometime in October?

The Hero is one of HTC’s most coveted phones, featuring a beautiful touchscreen display and most importantly Sense UI. So, it would only make sense that the company would then go on to produce an HTC Hero 2, of sorts, right?
Well, what you see above may be just that as 8080.net claims it is a device that recently found its way through the FCC called the Hero200. Of course, we have no official confirmation but you can clearly see that it’s running the Sense UI but where is the Jay Leno chin?

With Nokia World approaching fast we should expect the Finnish manufacturers to announce at least a few new handsets or mobile gadgets. One of them could be the Nokia Alvin, a phone that has just hit the FCC. We don’t have many details about it but we do know that the Alvin is going to have 32GB of internal memory, a BL-5J battery, quad-band GSM, tri-band WCDMA, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. Should we assume that the Alvin is the follower of the N97? What do you guys think?

Three phones have graduated from the FCC today namely Nokia’s 3710a and RM-511 in addition to the Motorola Morisson.
Spec wise, Nokia’s 3710a features a 3.2MP camera with LED flash, a clam shell form factor and 3G connectivity. The RM-511, on the other hand, we don’t know much about other than 3G and a clam shell form factor. And last is the slide-out QWERTY keyboard touting Motorola Morisson that we heard about way back in June.
Additionally, it was made known that T-Mobile is the carrier that will be getting all 3 of these handsets.
