All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

In case you missed last year’s fashion phone made by Christian Dior, don’t worry because there is a new line this year that will make Paris Hilton go nuts.

The new line has rectangles and fresh colors as the main details of its style, and lets not forget precious diamonds. There are 2 models that will only be sold via personal orders, the Zelie and Zenaide which will cost $13,400 and $7,900 respectively. While the Zelie is colored in red, the Zelie comes in white and is covered with diamonds. For $8,700 you can get the Nacre model which is covered with pearls. Lastly, there is a bluetooth headset that costs $470 and has precious stones.

According to some rumours, this Christian Dior line of cellphones will become available later this year, near December, just in time for Christmas…

  • As the world continues to find ways to properly dispose of used up and non-functioning gadgets like mobile phones today, ecoATM has revealed a neat device that can do it all in an automated fashion. Carrying the same technology we see in ATM banking, the Automatec eCycling Stations provide an easier way to dispose of old phones and getting paid on the spot.

All you have to do is insert your device, wait for the machine to value it and then you get the money. It is as simple as that. But you have to wonder about the procedure like the appreciation of the phone and see if you can really get the competitive value for it. Other than that, you may find this ecoATM systems next quarter in places like San Diego, Boston, Dallas and Seattle. Let’s see how it goes.

    Color Rings Bluetooth

Everyone knows the hand signs to tell someone to call or make a call. We even see this used in sci-fi movies to make it look like they are actually making a call with no handset or device in hand. But now it seems we may see a lot of people flashing the same hand signals with two glowing rings on their thumb and the other on the pinky finger and are actually talking to someone.

The Color Rings are the latest Bluetooth headset concept which anyone would mistake for a new trend of fashion being worn today. Presumably, the ring worn on the pinky is the one that has the mic and the other on the thumb is the earphone. A built-in distance sensor notifies you when you are about to make or receive calls whenever you place your hand to your head. Quite neat and something that negates the usual looking techie carrying out all those peripherals that make you look like a geek from outer space!

Otterbox has come up with a lot of different casings for mobile phones and now the latest casing solution they have is for the Blackberry 8520. Though it may need a lot of improvement in the fashion and style department, the new impact case for the Blackberry 8520 certainly seems like it will really keep your Blackberry “covered”.

And unlike most Otterbox casings, this impact casing practically serves to protect your Blackberry from drops and bumps and includes a self-adhesive protection film. It is not water-resistant. It is designed in black silicone and is not that bulky to carry along.

    Dolce&Gabbana Sony Jalou

It seems that the Sony Ericsson branded Jalou isn’t the only Jalou to hit the market as we have recently also learned of a Dolce&Gabbana branded handset of a similar form factor also marketed towards the fashion conscious demographic.

This special edition Jalou is essentially the same thing as the Sony Ericsson Jalou, with EDGE and 3D capabilities, but features several Dolce&Gabbana brandings including on the front of the phone and on the included headphones, as you can see above. Spec wise we are still looking at the 3.2MP camera with video recording, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, and a music player.

Just like it’s brethren, the Sony Ericsson Jalou, the Dolce&Gabbana Jalou will hit selected markets in Q4 of 2009.

  • Today it is made only for notebooks. But sometime soon, it will likewise be available for mobile phones. This is of course the use of Bluetooth headsets, something that we see common for people who want some fashion and class when it comes to communicating in style.

Of course we all know that laptops are now used for communication as well and with the addition of this new ultra-thin Bluetooth headset called the MoGo Talk, you have to wonder when mobile phones would be made compatible. Bluetooth headsets make it easier in receiving calls for people who use them and apparently with its lighter make, techies are going to want this for their own.

But for the meantime, Skype and VoIP users take first crack. The MoGo Talk from Newton Peripherals is available at their store for $99.99.

Lacoste to Launch Phone in 2010?

I’m not sure if this is exactly the kind of phone you’d want to use in the future especially since we expect it to be quite expensive. For some reason Lacoste is going to launch a cell phone in 2010. Is it a smartphone? Is it a fashion phone? Chances are it’s the latter one as it’s going to be based on Lacoste’s traditional quality, simplicity and elegance.

Lacoste will work with ModeLabs Group to create the phone and if successful we might be even looking at a future Lacoste phone line.

When the mobile world meets the fashion world, an event like this one takes place. LG Canada partnered up with Carlie Wong to launch three new phones at the L’Oreal Fashion Week show. Did you happen to see any of this fashion show?

    Carlie Wong said:

My Spring/Summer 2009 collection is all about bringing quality construction, attention to detail and luxurious pieces to the fashion world, which is exactly what LG is bringing to technology.I want the women who wear my clothes to feel feminine, yet empowered and unstoppable. She’s the Glamorous Gangster and an LG cell phone is her hottest accessory.

The three phones aren’t exactly new. They are the LG Dare, the LG Reveal and the LG Voyager but they are coming to Canada too. The phones will be available from Bell and Telus in the following months so check back with the carriers for pricing and arrival dates.

Over at the Nokia headquarters in Finland, the Nokia 8800 Arte and Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte were unveiled for the fashion-conscious. The new models bring in 3G capabilities to the stylish Nokia 8800 series. Featuring a 2.0 inch QVGA 240×320 pixels, organic-LED display, both the devices are equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera offering 8x digital zoom. While there’s no support for external memory, they come with 1GB of storage.

For data sync, the Nokia 8800 Arte and Sapphire Arte also offer a microUSB connector. An anti-fingerprint coating on the metal and glass ensure that your device stays shiny throughout its life. Tap below the display to see an analogue clock (personally, I love analogue clocks - it’s faster to calculate time differences that way). On the 8800 Ante, there’s a unique turn-to-mute feature: to silence the handset when it is ringing, simply turn it over (screen-side down).

    Pricing and availability:

  • Nokia 8800 Arte: €1000, in Q4 2007
  • Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte: €1150, in Q1 2008 (more…)

Nokia unveiled the new Prism collection aimed at style-conscious consumers. The collection includes the new Nokia 7900 Prism and the Nokia 7500 Prism handsets. Available in new colors, the handsets are highlighted by the material used to manufacture them as well as the graphics. The diamond-cut design and angled lines set them apart from run-of-the-mill handsets.

    Nokia 7900 Prism
The 7900 Prism (on the left) features a licorice-black front and anodized aluminium backcover and is laser-etched in Nokia Prism’s signature diamond-cut design. A battery-saving Organic LED main display offering 16 million colors is the highlight, and it handles a living wallpaper that changes throughout the day according to the time and battery and signal strength. A choice of 49 illumination colors is possible on the Nokia 7900 Prism. The selected color radiates from under the key-mat. It comes with a 2 megapixel camera, 1GB of internal memory and is a quad-band 3G cell phone. There doesn’t appear to be any support for microSD memory cards. Priced at €400, it will be available in Q3 2007.

    Nokia 7500 Prism
The 7500 Prism also features a black exterior, and offers interchangeable color accents. A 2 megapixel camera is available on-board and it can also record videos. This differs from the 7900 in that a microSD memory card slot is provided, and it can take in up to 2GB cards. The Nokia 7500 Prism is priced at €210.
