All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

The last we heard, the Acer A1 was set for a release this month and while don’t see the device on the shelves yet, it is at least available for preorder now from Expansys Germany, a good sign.  The device, as we already knew, comes with Android but specs sheet up on the retailer’s site reveals that the A1 will come with Android 2.0 (Donut) preloaded and a 768MHz processor, which is no Snapdragon but faster than the rest of the Android smartphones out as of now.  Expansys has it priced at $571, but that should change when it is picked up a carrier in the near future.

Sony Ericsson’s latest phone, the Xperia X2 has an off contract price apparently. The device has been leaked by eXpansys UK and it will cost $1,010. The phone will be released on January 11, 2010 so if you want a brand new, unlocked Sony Ericsson phone and you’re ready to pay all that cash for it then eXpansys UK is the way to go. Should we assume that the X2 will be overpriced even when purchased with a new contract? It’s only a Windows Mobile phone after all, and there are other phones out there that are definitely more popular and a lot cheaper. Will the X2 be a success or should we wait for Sony Ericsson to launch its first Android smartphones?

The N97 is going to be available soon everywhere as I am sure Nokia will want to release in as many markets as possible. The flagship phone will be available in Italy and TIM is going to bring it to its subscribers. The phone will cost €599 or at least that’s the price currently listed on TIM’s website. So what do you think? Is it still too expensive? It’s certainly much better than Expansys’ current price of £669.99 for the N97.

It should be if we go by the listing put up by Expansys recently.  But considering the fact that the HTC Touch Diamond2 is slated for a European and Taiwanese release this month, it wouldn’t be unwise for HTC to stagger the UK release date of the QWERTY-toting Touch Pro2 by two months.  A price has also been revealed and the Touch Pro2 will cost £519.9 and antsy Diamond fans can preorder it to receive it by the promised June 5th.

  • Nokia’s first 8 megapixel camera phone was said to arrive in the second quarter of 2009. And it looks like the N86 won’t arrive any time sooner. In fact, UK customers will get it around July 22. You can pre-order it right now but it won’t be shipped until that date. Expansys is currently displaying it and the pre-order price is about $850. That’s twice what Nokia said the 8 megapixel phone will cost. Will anyone pay that much for it? The smart thing to do is wait for a carrier to bring the N86 to you for a subsidized price. Or get an 8 megapixel camera phone from the competition.

  • The HTC Touch HD is available at expansys already. The phone costs £534.99 which is quite a lot. Considering the phone comes unlocked and with a free 8GB microSD card the prices seems better all of a sudden. At the time I am writing this up I’ll have you know there are about 100 units left in stock and buying more than 5 will get you some discounts as sell. Too bad is available in the UK only for now. So what say you people? Order one now or let the carriers subsidize it?

Hong Kong-based company Expansys recently unveiled two new products, one of which is the MWG Zinc II. It’s a smartphone using the Windows Mobile 6 Professional platform. It uses Samsung ARM CPU and features WiFi and bluetooth connectivity as well as GPS and a media player. The phone has a 2.8 inch touchscreen, 2 megapixel camera, and a 64MB memory which could be expanded via a microSD card. The MWG Zinc II will sell for around USD$680.
