AT&T and OASIS have joined forces to create an event made specifically for seniors, with the purpose to show them how easy it is to use a cellphone. It will take place in November 21st, at the University Hospital in Dewitt.
At “Cell Phones for Seniors” there will be a few AT&T volunteers that will tutor the seniors in various aspects of a mobile phone, such as how to send a text message and checking the voice mail, or even more basic stuff such as controlling the volume or storing a number on the address book. It can be considered a basic task for some people, but it isn’t that simple for the elderly.
Since promotion of an AT&T service is expected, seniors will get to know HAC - Hearing Aid Compatible - options.

We’re about six hours away of the Apple MacBook event and we are anxious to see if any of the rumors we’ve had so far will be confirmed. So far we’ve seen the Brick Aluminum design; we’ve heard about the Apple netbook which is supposed to cost around $900; we’ve seen Best Buy prices which also revealed different color schemes and we’ve read quite a lot about the price cut everyone is expecting.
We don’t know that many things about the Air and we hope we will be in for some surprises. As we did with other Apple events, we’re going to keep you updated later on today when we’re going to be covering the event.

Apple hasn’t sent out any invitations yet. October 14th is the day we were expecting for the official launch of the new MacBooks. Sure that was a rumor, but a rumor quite a few people around the world trusted to be true.
But since Apple failed to send any invitations yet we might have to wait even more for the special event. Or are we going to hear about the new Macs from press releases? I really doubt that Steve Jobs would prefer to let his people write up some dull press releases instead of giving us himself a memorable keynote. Or is it that Jobs is really having some health problems which might prevent him for showing up next week?
Is anyone from Apple paying any attention to all this?

There has been a lot of buzz going around about T-Mobile’s exclusive Android device, which is also the first Android device to hit the market.
Well, our buds over at Engadget have gotten word that the device will be officially announced on September 23rd at a T-Mobile event.
There is no saying as to what the device will actually be, but we do know that this will be a truly monumental event as it will be the first time an open-source cellphone has gone public. We will keep you updated.

While waiting for Steve Jobs to turn water into iWine appear again before the public on October 14th in order to finally announce the new generation MacBooks, we heard that the next generation 13-inch MacBooks have left China. Well not all of them, but quite a few.
The new laptop might have a thin aluminum casing, a LED-backlit display and an aggressive entry-level pricing. What say you you all this Microsoft? Do you like living on the edge? Hoping that none of this pricing thing is true?
More laptops should be manufactured in the remaining time and if everything is going according to plan they will sell like hot cakes. Does any one know if a certain tablet is also coming soon?

Apple had its special event and so did Microsoft. Both companies launched their new MP3 players earlier this week and it’s time for Creative to do the same thing. September 17th is the day when Creative will launch their products. What are these going to be? MP3 players? Internet tablet? Cameras? Pmp device? All rolled into one? Neither? (more…)

Now here’s an event we are definitely waiting for. Although a rumor for now, a MacBook event seems to shape up for October 14th. Is that the day we’re going to see the new line of MacBooks roll by. People have been waiting for an announcement since yesterday at the “Let’s Rock” iPod event but Steve Jobs wouldn’t have done such a thing. He knows how these things are done doesn’t he?

11:05AM PST Steve thanks the crowd for showing up. Nothing else did get mentioned after Jack’s performance. I guess that’s all folks! This was the “Let’s Rock” event from Apple. We have new iPods, new designs, new iTunes and new iPhone 2.1. We’ll be back for more “Let’s Rock” related news and video clips.
10:59AM PST It appears that’s all for today’s Apple event. Don’t forget we will analyze Apple’s iPods and iTunes later on. I’ll take a moment to thank Engadget, Gizmodo and Slashgear. Without them this virtual live coverage wouldn’t have been possible.
10:55AM PST Jack is doing his stuff. Let’s see what’s about to follow. In the mean time here’s a funny slide from earlier about Steve’s Jobs obituary.
10:52AM PST That was everything about the iPhone. Back to iTunes and iPods. 160 million iPods sold and the best male artist in iTunes history is Jack Johnson with over 60 million album sold.
10:49AM PST This Friday we’re going to see the iPhone 2.1 software update going live. Better battery life, fewer call drops, crashing problems solved, increased speed for iTunes backup and lots of bug fixes.
10:47AM PST Steve is back on the stage. No change in capacity for the iiPod touch, exactly as it was suspected. 8GB for $229, 16GB for $299, and 32GB for $399. And they are all available today. The new touch will get you 36hrs music or 6hrs video.
10:46AM PST Need for Speed is another cool game which will be available in November. That’s what I would play on my iPhone.
10:44AM PST You have an overlaid D-Pad and A/B buttons on the screen to control the game. I feel we need an iClean device to get the iPhone/iPod cleaned after playing a game.
10:42AM PST Real Soccer 2009 is a football/soccer game which is shipping today.
10:38 AM PST After Steve Jobs demoed the Genius system on the new touch, Phil Shiller came on the stage to demo some new games. Spore: Origins is the first to be discussed.
10:34AM PST The App Store: 100 million downloads in 60 days. 700 games are available right now and the store is accessible in 62 countries so far.
10:33AM PST It has b/g WiFi and the AppStore. UI has been improved with better album artwork and Nike+ integration (inside the device, not a separate dongle).
10:31AM PST iPod touch is the next one. It has a new casing. Contured stainless steel, same display, but this touch is thinner. The profile is similar to the iPhone 3G but in metal. There are new volume controls on the side, a speaker and Genius autoplaylist creation of course.
10:29AM PST New headphones with control keys and a microphone will be available for $79 with three earbuds.
10:26AM PST Prices will be as follows: $149 for 8GB and $199 for 16GB and it will come in black, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, violet, red. The 8GB is available today while the 16GB next weekend.

10:22AM PST The new nano will have a voice recording option, a calendar and a stopwatch. You can see full size album art and photos in coverflow. Shaking it will make it shuffle tunes
10:18AM PST The new iPod nano is confirmed. It looks like in the leaked pictures we’ve seen so far. It has the same height like the 2nd generation iPod nano. Aluminum casing with curved glass is there. It has the accelerometer and an enhanced UI.
10:17AM PST The iPod Classic will come in 120GB model replacing the 80GB and 160GB which will be discontinued. It will cost $249 like the Zune
10:16AM PST Microsoft has a 2.6% while Sandisk has 8.6%. Others total to 15.4%
10:15AM PST Let’s turn to iPods now. 73.4% market share in the US. With over 5,000 accessories, some of which get announced before they are supposed to.
10:11AM PST Steve is showing us how Genius works. Well I have a general idea of what I like, I don’t really need a system to tell me what I’d also like to listen to.
10:10AM PST A Genius sidebar will make recommendations from the iTunes store. Genius information will be sent to the cloud, to iTunes to feed them your music taste and to improve the whole system. All that will be done anonymously.
10:07AM PST Genius is used to intelligently create playlists and match songs that go well together.
10:05AM PST We’re going to get iTunes 8, which we were already expecting for.

Don’t forget this Tuesday we have two major events. Arch enemies Microsoft and Apple are each going to host a special event. Among other things, next generation MP3 players will be unveiled.
What’s surprising to me is that the new 120GB Zune player is already available for purchase. I am not talking about pre-sales or anything. Look for it on Amazon. It should be in stock for a special discount. Well Microsoft how can you allow that? The product you’re going to launch is already available for purchase. You don’t see any new iPod touch coming out before the official announcement do you?

In a weird turn of events Microsoft managed to squeeze a special event on September 9th. Well that’s awkward. I thought that, you know, the other team, has a special Let’s Rock thing going on the same day. (more…)

Apple isn’t hiding it anymore. Next Tuesday, September 9th, we’re going to have its special event called “Let’s Rock”. We’re going to see the new iPods arriving in exactly a week from now. The special event will be held at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 10AM PST. Should you be lucky enough to get invited to attend, don’t forget to conveniently leak us some inside information.
Unfortunately it appears the new Mac notebooks won’t be presented next week. Are we to expect another special event later this month? A “Let’s Mac” kind of thing?

If you were in the Phoenix area, you might have had a chance to enjoy Goo Goo Dolls in a free concert at the Scottsdale Civic Center Plaza in Scottsdale, Ariz. on Saturday, December 8, 2007 - courtesy of Alltel Wireless. This was Alltel’s way of thanking Phoenix customers for its growth in the region.
Anyway, if you missed the event like most of us (well, actually all of us) over here at the Whack, feel free to check out photos from the event in the extended entry.
