  • Android v1.6 Becomes Official

    A few days back, speculations were rising that Google would be releasing the Android v1.6. Well now it is all official! Google officially launched the Android v1.6 (also known as the “Donut”), armed with a wide array of features that should make Android developers all jumpy and curious. Among the new features of the Donut include CDMA support and better resolution which bump screens all the way up to 800×480 thus providing support for better images for higher end-screens.

    Other enhancements include a new “Quick Search” box and a battery usage system. These and a whole lot more of enticing features are what the new Android promises to provide developers. Google expects first sanctioned appearances on devices to start popping out by October.

    For all the Blackberry owners and users out there, the enhancements that MyCaption has added to their niche software should be something that will work to their advantage. Already a marquee provider of voice recognition software, MyCaption has added new features to the popular software with the capability to attach a convenience key for its productivity tools. This includes:

    • Compose a new email;
    • Create a new Calendar appointment
    • Create a new Task;
    • Write a new Memo

    From the preference menu, users can select any of these four functions to launch with a single-click. The convenience key is located on the side of a BlackBerry smartphone. Its main benefit is that a user doesn’t even have to look at the smartphone to operate it.

    The software is now available. Current users of MyCaption can upgrade to the new version for free. New users can begin by enrolling for a Free Trial.

    Back in April, Skyfire was looking for Alpha users of its mobile browser. Now after that phase has been done with, Skyfire for the Blackberry announces its beta phase, oozing with enhancements from the previous alpha version.

    Among the expected enhancements for the Skyfire Beta version include new keyboard shortcuts and the “Switch to Skyfire” option which is similar to the multi-tabbed browsing we see from Firefox and Internet Explorer.

    Other features for the beta version include:

    • Text Entry in Thumbnail view
    • Contextual zoom with Camera Corners

    While the Skyfire browser seems to show a lot of improvements from the alpha release, users are warned that it is still not perfect. Errors and slow performance are still being debugged so don’t set your expectations too high.

    We have seen a lot of sports games made available for the iPhone or the iPod Touch but it seems that this new one will be a new app worthy to check out. This is of course the Rugby Union app which is now available for the iPhone.

    But while this is a first for the sport, don’t expect too much as far as features and complications for the game compared to other sports games that have come out. Give it time and for sure enhancements will come.

    Rugby Nations is a fun arcade Rugby Union game that’s easy to play, has innovative controls and has great visuals. Using a mixture of touch-screen and tilt controls you pass, sprint, tackle and kick your way up the pitch - precious inch by precious inch - until you dive over the try line to score. Conversion kicks are controlled by a swipe of the screen to set the power and direction of the kick.

    The game is set for release at the start of June to coincide with the British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa at a great price of €3.99.
