Asus wants a share of the touchscreen PCs market and who can blame them? With Windows 7 approaching manufacturers are going to do whatever it takes to have their systems sold before the competition wakes up. The Eee Top PCs is Asus’ idea of getting ready for the future. The current model brings you 1GB of RAM and 160GB HDD. And Asus is thinking 15.6 inch screens and even bigger. A 20 inch and a 22 inch version are likely to be released sometime next year. Hopefully the company is also thinking more RAM and HDD space.

We’ve seen the Eee get copied by everyone else. Are we going to see the Eee Top inspire other manufacturers to build similar PCs?

Asus Launches S101 Luxury Netbook

Asus launched another netbook. What a surprise! This time is not exactly the Eee we’ve talked so much about, although it has the Eee logo on it. The S101 is more like a luxury netbook and it looks like a baby MacBook Air to me. (more…)

Well is it just me or have you also noticed the recent price drop for the Asus Eee PC 901? Amazon dropped the price for the 1000H to $449 while the 901’s price dropped from $599 to $499. That was yesterday. Now, at Walmart locations you will find the Asus Eee PC 901 for just $448.

LG & MSI To Create Mini-Laptop?

LG is the newest mini-laptop creator out there. For some reason they want in on the Eee-like success business. They might just have what it takes to offer a decent mini-laptop out there. And they chose the perfect partners, MSI which might just be the best Eee competitor to date.

LG & MSI will combine their forces to create the first LG netbook, the X110. We are looking at a 9 inch panel, 120 GB, 2GB of RAM and the good old Windows XP in the shadows. That’s it? No ? GPS? After all LG knows how to implement such features.

Despite their intentions of making it in the mini-laptop business, LG will not create a cheap, affordable machine. They will choose a better design and material quality. A move like that will definitely push prices and it’s rumored an LG mini will sell from $625 to $790.

Vodafone Launchest a NetPC

Yes the computer in the picture is an Eee PC. Yes it is a 701 version. Yes it comes from Vodafone with a mobile Internet plan.

It appears Asus’ Eee strikes again. Vodafone has picked up the 701 version and it launched the Vodafone NetPC plan. Besides the mini-laptop, the plan includes a “Vodafone Connect” USB modem which will give you access to 3G Internet surfing at speeds of up to 7.2MBps. For now Vodafone Portugal has it in store but it’s likely that other countries will follow. Vodafone is thinking out of the box here and it’s ready to offer the Eee 701 PC in two versions: a Linux based one and a Windows XP version. The prices will vary depending on what model you choose. Linux will get you a $313 Eee PC while XP will raise the price to $360. Besides that there’s a monthly Internet plan for the next 18-months to be paid. Check back with your Vodafone shop near you if you’re in Portugal right now.

  • Eee Monitor, iMac Imitator?

Sure why not, why not a new Eee Monitor that would actually be very similar to an iMac. Sure why not Asus? Why not try to take over the desktop world too? But you are forgetting something. You’re going to be packing a Windows OS inside, so no matter how cheap the Eee Monitor will be, you will still end up loosing customers to Apple.

  • Asus to Launch Eee PC 904 and 905

While you are waiting for the Asus Eee 901, 1000 and 1000H to hit the USA, Asus has announced they are going to launch the new Eee PC laptops which are the 904 and 905. What’s new you ask? Well, these two models will have an 8.9 inch LCD but the chassis and keyboard will be taken from the 10.2 inch models. So they finally realized the keyboard is too small to use successfully? Are we going to see 704 and 705 laptops too?

  • MSI WIND
The MSI Wind U100 gets ready to meet the people. We’ve seen so many Eee wannabes so far, each having good and bad parts to add to this new mini laptop market.

From what people are mumbling over the MSI Wind it looks like Asus should fear the U100 release. First of all I must say the price looks really good. The Wind with Windows XP is going to retail for $499 which is a whole $100 cheaper than the Eee 901. And if you don’t remember why the Wind is not only cheaper but better, here’s why: it’s got 10 inch screen and a whooping 80GB hard drive.

  • Asus Wii-like Eee Stick

    Eee Stick
Eee did it again. I mean Asus. I have a hard time naming them as it looks like the Eee is going solo with their whole new line of Eee products.

Like I said yesterday, the Eee seems to be appearing everywhere. Asus will Eee anything and it’s up to us, the buyers to allow it or not. Today we are looking at the Eee stick which is based on the Wii console. It was a matter of time until other big electronics manufacturers started to come up with different Wii versions. And we aren’t counting all the Chinese knock-offs of course!

Is Asus turning the Eee into a cult? Sure I liked the Eee 701 idea which was rapidly adapted by every laptop carrier out there. I liked the Eee 900 and I like the 1000 even better. I would make my own additions to any of these but they are still fine Asus creations.

Shouldn’t they stop while they are ahead? What’s all this Eee frenzy out there? The Eee Box is there, the Eee TV coming and the Eee Monitor. When’s the Eee Mouse going to arrive? I’d imagine this being a one button 2 inch mouse worth little over $159.

  • Asus Eee 1000 to be Announced

We had a small notebooks day today here at MobileWhack with so many small laptops emerging from various manufacturers. The leader of the pack, the Eee inventor, Asus, will be launching soon the Eee 1000, which is a 10 inch notebook.

All this is bound to happen in a few days in Taipei at Computex 2008. The Eee PC 1000 is Asus’ way of answering to feedback received from their customers. They are asking for a bigger display and a wider keyboard for a better Eee experience, and I couldn’t agree more!

The Asus Eee 1000 will be available later this year and we hope we can count on some other hardwares upgrades besides the extra inch. Hopefully we will know more about this laptop in a few days. We’re also curious about the official release date and of course the price. If you are in Taiwan, give us a hint once you find out more.

    ASUS Eee Box B202

    box-b202.jpg

s the Eee fever going to last? After the success the tiny Eee PC 700 laptop had this year and after they have started selling its bigger brother the Eee PC 900, it was a matter of time for other Eee products to roll over.

Asus Eee Box B202 it’s a desktop as the picture suggest. It’s 2.2 pounds heavy packing an Intel Atom processor / 945 chipset, 1GB of DDR2 RAM and a 80GB hard drive. And, in order to make it run smoother I guess, there’s a Linux Based operating system. No news on the price it will retail for, nor on the monitor, which I hope Asus is thinking about as we speak!

Asus have created the Eee PC, a laptop designed to be highly portable, useful and cheap. Although I’d see the Eee as backup to any real computer or notebook I’d own, I have to admit it’s a very interesting and challenging concept.

After the 7 inch version they have released the Eee PC 900 and it’s rumored they are getting ready to launch an 11 inch version of this bestseller laptop by the end of this year. We don’t have any details but I am certain they will have tp add extra features to make it a decent competitor of laptops like the Lenovo IdeaPad U110 I showed you before.

I am also interested in what the new Eee will go for. Instead of the 9 inch you’d be better off with any 15 inch laptop for the same price. The 11 inch Eee PC will be even higher priced I am sure, and I predict you could be way better off with a 15 inch Asus laptop instead. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

I wonder how the announced Eee TV (E-TV), Eee desktop (E-DT), and Eee monitor are going to be like and if Eee will become a stronger and more envied brand.

I am on an environmental writing spree today and after telling you all about the new Credo accessories I simply have to show you what Dell has in store for its buyers. The picture above is the eco-friendly PC which is said to be 70% less energy consumer and 81% smaller than a mini tower Dell PC (but bigger than the Asus EEE). Michael Dell says about it: “These are important issues. When you think about our industry, we produce 260 million computers a year. There’s a responsibility that comes with that.”

It’s only logical for Dell to invest more and more in electronics, specifically in laptops and desktops, meant to reduce overall energy consumption. Further more whether you own one of their products or not, you can be part of this ecological movement by joining one of their programs: “Plant a Tree for Me” (for private buyers) or “Plant a Forest for Me,” (for companies).

  • When news of the new generation of Asus Eee PC broke out, we thought it would have touch screen. For those wishing for one, it looks like it won’t be happening. Don’t despair though, because it appears that instead of a touch screen, the Asus Eee PC 900 is getting a multi-touch trackpad. Yep, the one that’s on MacBook Air. You can then fancy yourself using the wafer-thin spawn of Cupertino while actually on an Eee PC. The price of the Asus Eee PC 900 varies depending upon the location, with a May or June release date.
