It looks like Garmin and Asus have decided to hook up and make phones together. That means we’re going to expect Garmin-Asus nuvifone handset later this year. Better yet, this new alliance will show us at least some new nuvifone concepts at the MWC in Spain.
The nuvifone we were expecting in 2008 will be rebranded as the Garmin-Asus nüvifone G60 and it will be delivered in the first half of the year. Are we to expect support for other platforms in the future? Say Windows Mobile and Android nuvifones? What about that Asus Eee Phone?
We’ll tell you more about the Garmin-Asus nuvifone G60 once it arrives in Barcelona at the MWC.

We have more cool news from Asus and its Eee products. If you still have that Eee Keyboard in mind well then get a load of this: Asus is thinking about creating an Eee PC and/or an Eee Phone able to run on Google’s Android OS. We know that Asus is already part of that Open Handset Alliance and we also know that Android was successfully installed on a couple of notebooks so far. Asus CEO Johny Shih mentioned that the company is interested in developing a unit that can be “put in the pocket, play MP3s, offer GPS services, works like a PDA and offers Mobile TV altogether”.
2009 might just be a great phone year considering that more and more companies are interested in Android. The Symbian foundation is also growing and Windows Mobile 7 might arrive sooner than expected. Palm has the Nova planned and Apple will surely improve its iPhone this year. We should be in for quite a year if some of the products we’ve already seen at CES come true!
