Well Asus has one such model, the 1004DN which is now available in Taiwan for around $609. The netbook comes with the regular 10.2-inch screen, 1GB of RAM, a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 CPU, an Intel GN40 chipset with X4500M graphics, a fingerprint reader, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and a CD/DVD burner. • The Asus Eee PC 1008HA or the Shell is an ultracompact netbook which seems ready to be shipped. Prices have been announced for the UK and the netbook will cost £359 when it will arrive in April. The netbook is packing Intel’s Atom N280 processor, a 10-inch LED backlit display, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard-drive, WiFi, Bluetooth and it measures only one-inch in thickness. Will we see the Shell sport the same prices in other markets too?

    RoBe:Do, Robots for Sale

What does this look like? It could easily be the great-great-great grandfather of Wall-E don’t you think? It’s called RoBe:Do, and it’s a robot powered by a 12V rechargeable NiMH battery and controlled by an Eee PC netbook. There are two models you can choose from, Coppa and Silvio which can be yours for only $1,649 or $1,449, respectively.

What can they do for all this money you wonder? Well, you’ll be surprised to learn that they are completely mobile and can be equipped with any number of gadgets that can be connected to the computer. They feature light sensors and lever arms which could come in handy for something. Question is, for what?

If you’re anywhere near CeBIT this time of year then you can go ahead and check Asus shiny new Eee toy. I am talking about the Eee PC 1008HA otherwise known as the Shell which is supposed to be an ultra-slim and ultra-portable netbook. It’s just 1-inch thick an it weighs only 2.4 pounds. The 10.1-inch netbook will probably have the usual netbook specs although we haven’t received confirmation for any of that. The Shell is surely bringing in 802.11n, Bluetooth, 3G and WiMax support and it’s packing Eee Sharing and Eee Arena software. So how much does one cost?

We have more cool news from Asus and its Eee products. If you still have that Eee Keyboard in mind well then get a load of this: Asus is thinking about creating an Eee PC and/or an Eee Phone able to run on Google’s Android OS. We know that Asus is already part of that Open Handset Alliance and we also know that Android was successfully installed on a couple of notebooks so far. Asus CEO Johny Shih mentioned that the company is interested in developing a unit that can be “put in the pocket, play MP3s, offer GPS services, works like a PDA and offers Mobile TV altogether”.

2009 might just be a great phone year considering that more and more companies are interested in Android. The Symbian foundation is also growing and Windows Mobile 7 might arrive sooner than expected. Palm has the Nova planned and Apple will surely improve its iPhone this year. We should be in for quite a year if some of the products we’ve already seen at CES come true!

  • Ever wondered if your PC can work on Android? Ever wished for Google to further develop Android and make it a fully functional PC OS? Well I can’t say whether Google is going to transform Android for PC use but I do know there’s at least Eee PC out there running on Android. The guys over at VentureBeat managed to work on Google’s OS and installed it on an Eee PC. From what you can see in the pictures here they have just proven that such an endeavor is possible. Not that we didn’t think it was. I wonder what Microsoft had to say about the move. Feeling threatened by Google yet guys?

    $200 Eee PC in 2009?

Netbooks strike again. Every computer maker is getting ready for 2009. Are they going to make them cheaper besides upgrading the components? During the quarterly earnings call, Asustek said it plans to drop the price of its Eee PCs in 2009.

We might see entry level Eee PCs to sell for as low as $200 which is remarkable. Asus sold 1.7 million Eee Pcs during the last quarter and they plan to ship another 1.8 million during the next quarter. Asus will cancel smaller netbooks too, in favor of the 10 inch versions.

    A $200, 10 inch Eee PC… Is that possible in 2009?

  • Asus has another Eee PC ready for you. It’s the 10 inch Eee PC 1002HA. There’s nothing really particular here to see folks, although the features of the 1002HA might make you see it as a regular notebook. The netbook will sport a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD and a two-cell 4200 mAh battery. The Eee PC 1002HA will be arriving in Europe for €449, or about $565.

We talk the talk today about Asus and its future plans. They were unveiled by Asus’s CEO Jerry Shen and we have it all for you.

The most important think is that Asus is going to skip Vista. They are going to transition to Windows 7 straight from XP. Asus hopes to sell about 5 million Eees by the end of the year, and they are just 1 million short. The all-in-one Eee will arrive soon too and so will the Eee Stick. The last one will get an under $100 price and it will be offered both bundled and alone.

Next year’s Eee PC will sell for about $250 in the first half of the year, while the touchscreen Eee PC with Windows 7 on will arrive in the second half. So bring it on Asus! We’re ready to talk about the new netbooks as soon as they will hit the market.

  • Asus Touchscreen Eee PC due November

A lot of us have been looking forward to the new Asus Touchscreen Eee PC. Well, it seems like we won’t have to wait long. Reports are saying that the touchscreen Eee PC is due to arrive in the UK towards the end of November.

The new desktop, which is named ETP1602-WT-X0010, is Asus‘ biggest screen Eee PC yet. It has a 16:10-ratio and a 15.6in touch-sensitive panel. Behind the screen sit all the usual small, cheap components: 1.6GHz Atom CPU, Intel 945GSE integrated chipset and 1GB of 667MHz DDR memory. This model comes with a 160GB 3Gb/s SATA hard drive on which Windows XP is pre-installed.

The Eee has on-board 802.11n Wi-FI and Gigabit Ethernet. there are six USB ports - two on the side, four at the back - audio sockets and a multi-format memory card reader. Despite the touchscreen, the Eee comes with a mouse. A keyboard is bundled too.

  • It looks like the immediate future of netbooks will bring some new features for the tiny computers. We are to expect dual core Atom chips, 3G and WiMAX support and touchscreens.

Asus was rumored to introduce touchscreens in their Eee PCs since the beginning of the year. However we don’t have any Eee netbook sporting a touchscreen yet. Asus is reported to be working on the touchscreen Eee which will hit the market sometime in Q1 2009. Probably the CES 2009 will see the new netbook.

We’re waiting to see how everyone else will upgrade their current notebooks. But I have to say that a touchscreen notebook sounds a lot better than a regular one.

  • ASUS has conquered the netbook market with its ASUS Eee PC. This started a trend with other major companies manufacturing their own. To stay on top of the competition, ASUS has launched its new Eee PC S101 that is designed for fashion forward individuals who view style as as much of a factor of success as substance. The Eee PC S101 builds upon the industry-pioneering form factor, ergonomics and features of its predecessors but boasts a wholly reforged exterior in three gorgeous colors—Brown, Champagne or Graphite—accentuated with delightful details such as premium Infusion finishes and crystal-adorned hinges, a successful melding of fashion and functionality that easily situates it at the (more…)

  • Asus S101 FCC Approved

Boy I am glad Asus didn’t roll did Asus launch another Eee netbook. They called it something else: the Eee PC S101. The S101 got leaked from the FCC which means it should be soon ready for an US release.

The S101 wasn’t supposed to carry the Eee branding but what’s in a name anyway? The 10.2 inch netbook will have a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, the 945GME chipset and an Air-like-thickness of 16 to 21 mm. Or that’s what we are expecting from it. Price was said to range between $699 to $899 depending on what SSD you ended up with. We’re waiting for the S101 to clear the FCC to see if features and prices will be confirmed.

    Whole Day Battery from Asus

Here’s finally a very good news coming from Asus related to their Eee PC line. It’s not another Eee product, but a new battery. And Asus is going to launch a whole day battery for the Eee PC. The current battery will get you about two and a half hours of life and such an upgrade will be more than welcome. Provided that the price won’t change this is probably the best upgrade they could offer.

Asus to Launch Eee PC 904 and 905

While you are waiting for the Asus Eee 901, 1000 and 1000H to hit the USA, Asus has announced they are going to launch the new Eee PC laptops which are the 904 and 905. What’s new you ask? Well, these two models will have an 8.9 inch LCD but the chassis and keyboard will be taken from the 10.2 inch models. So they finally realized the keyboard is too small to use successfully? Are we going to see 704 and 705 laptops too?

    MSI WIND
The MSI Wind U100 gets ready to meet the people. We’ve seen so many Eee wannabes so far, each having good and bad parts to add to this new mini laptop market.

From what people are mumbling over the MSI Wind it looks like Asus should fear the U100 release. First of all I must say the price looks really good. The Wind with Windows XP is going to retail for $499 which is a whole $100 cheaper than the Eee 901. And if you don’t remember why the Wind is not only cheaper but better, here’s why: it’s got 10 inch screen and a whooping 80GB hard drive.
