  • Fujitsu Diamond Cellphone

From the Asian part of the world comes NTT DoCoMo presenting the upcoming Fujitsu cellphone, codenamed F-02A. Much like the Givori Nefertiti, what makes this handset stand out from the rest is the inclusion of jewelry, in this case it is a 0.02 karat diamon located on the front near the display. The diamond measures 1.7mm of diameter and is made by 4ºC.

Other features of the Fujitsu F-02A also known as Fujitsu Diamond Cellphone, include a 3-inch screen with resolution of 854×480pixels on the internal display, while the external screen has a smaller resolution at 320×240pixels. It comes with a sensor that rotates the screen automatically, and a 2-megapixel camera. Price and release date are unknown so far.

  • DoCoMo has presented a new cellphone for their Winter Collection, that comes with a great pack of features which are rare to see in current handsets.

Entitled SH-01A, it is made by Sharp and comes with a 3.3-inch VGA (Aquos) LCD screen that is able to provide a top-notch 16:9 video viewing mode. The screen is also good enough to watch TV on the go thanks to the 1Seg TV Tuner. In terms of multimedia, the DoCoMo mobile phone has a 8-megapixel camera with face detection function, and can playback audio + video files.

If those features are not enough, maybe GPS and Virtual 5.1ch Dolby Mobile (for good sound) will please your needs?

  • The phone in the picture above is a concept phone shown by DoCoMo and Fujitsu at CEATEC in Japan this year. This splitting cell phone look interesting. I can help but wonder how fast I’d destroy it. I tend to play with cell phones, especially sliders and flip phones to the point where certain parts might fly off.

As you can see there’s a screen and a keyboard segment. The two pieces are connected with magnets and they communicate which each other via Bluetooth. There’s no name for this splitting device as it’s just a concept for now. We’re waiting to see if Fujitsu and DoCoMo will actually send it to massive production. It would be interesting to see what features it will sport.

Softbank is the Japanese carrier that managed to snatch a deal with Apple for releasing the 3G iPhone in Japan. I’m not going to build up suspense and throw it right in the first paragraph. The 8GB version will cost about $215 or 23,040 Yen which is almost matching AT&T’s price.

Just taking a look at this phone tells me where it’s from. Judging by the box-ish clamshell look it shares with just about every other phone in the land, I’d know the new Sharp FOMA SH705iII Cell Phone is for Japan. The new Sharp FOMA SH705iII has a 2.8-inch Sharp FOMA SH705iII 400 x 240 resolution TFT screen, a 3.2 megapixel camera, a 0.8-inch 96 x 39 resolution monochromatic OLED display, a microSD card slot, and 1-Seg TV tuner. Based on what I see, the Sharp FOMA SH705iII phone which will be an exclusive DoCoMo device, looks better than a lot of its contemporaries. Still, I wish a Japanese phone would break tradition and have an entirely different design.

We all know Japan is a major player in the worldwide mobile phone industry. And with a mobile phone user number close to 100 million, Apple cannot ignore the Japanese market, not when they’ve already released the iPhone in Europe. According to sources, Apple is currently negotiating the release of the iPhone with both DoCoMo, the leading mobile phone provider in Japan, and Softbank, the company which released the Vodafone in the country. However, talks haven’t been going as smoothly as planned as Apple is reportedly demanding too much a cut of the subscriber revenue. Both DoCoMo and Softbank chose not to comment but according to insiders:

“The negotiations are not going smoothly, as Apple’s conditions are extremely hard to meet,” the source said. “The ball is in Apple’s court right now.”

Steve Jobs has reportedly met with DoCoMo President, Masao Nakamura, in an effort to talk things through. Which of the two Japanese mobile phone giants would get the rights to the iPhone distribution in Japan? We could only wait and see.
