Deutsche Telekom seems to be more and more interested in mergers. After we’ve heard how its T-Mobile UK division will join forces with Orange UK, we now hear that the German conglomerate has a new target in sight. Sprint Nextel might be the company that Deutsche Telekom will purchase and this isn’t the first time we hear about it. That means Sprint Nextel will merge with T-Mobile USA and AT&T’s comfortable second largest position will be threatened by the new emerging carrier.
Don’t get all too excited just yet folks. Said merger will not be a piece of cake and it will take a while to be accomplished. In the mean time Deutsche Telekom is being advised by Deutsche Bank on the matter and we should see an offer in the following weeks. We’ll be back with more details soon as this is a very important move in the mobile business.

So what carrier will T-Mobile UK choose for its future merger? Is it going to be 3 which is ranked as the fifth UK carrier, or will it be one of the other important 3: O2, Orange and Vodafone?

Deutsche Telekom is said to be the third carrier to enter an already difficult combination like Sprint taking over Nextel. This is just a rumor yet picked up from the German paper Die Spiegel. According to it Deutsche Telekom and T-Mobile USA are preparing for such a merger. Official talks haven’t started yet but we will be covering that too.
Can this be a successful formula for taking out the competition? Not only will the German company have to integrate their own services and promote them to Sprint’s customers but they will also have to continue the integration of Nextel’s users. That means mixing GSM, AWS, PCS, CDMA and iDEN. I wonder if it’s worth it
