A few days ago we reported to you about eMachine’s latest all-in-one offering. Today, Dell has announced a similar product, although this one packs more of a punch. What you see above is Dell’s Vostro all-in-one desktop.

This all-in-one desktop will give buyers the option for either a Core 2 Duo or Pentium dual core processor, 2GB of RAM and a 160GB harddrive all at a starting price right around $629. Couple this with its 19-inch display and you have a none too bad desktop option all packed into a fashionable form factor.

While the Vostro all-in-one desktop is currently available in Japan and China now, expect it to be made available in North America on August 11th.

Every wanted to use iPhone OS on anything else but the iPhone or the iPod touch? Why would you want such a thing anyway? Getting back to the point here, it seems that the iPhone OS can be installed on a desktop PC as long as it comes with accelerometer support and, most importantly with multitouch support. Check the video above for yourself. Is it real or just a good prank?

  • Psystar seems not to care about Apple despite their ongoing quarrel. The company has launched a new Open (3) Mac clone desktop. In case you want one you can expect it to come with a processor ranging from a 2.8GHz Core2Duo E7400 up to a 2.53GHz Core2Quad Q8200, up to 4GB of memory, 1TB of storage, a NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT and a 6x Blu-ray burner. Prices start at $599, but a high-end version of the Open (3) will cost you around $2,000. For that price you’d be much better off with an original, don’t you think?

  • New Mac Mini Video?

Mac Mini 2009 Edition - video powered by Metacafe
The new Mac Mini photo we’ve shown you a few days ago is said to be counterfeited but despite all of that the video here shows a Mac Mini very similar to what we’ve seen in that picture. The Mini case is identical to the current desktop. It has the same aluminum skin, white plastic top and slot-load optical drive. It has 5 USB ports, a Mini DisplayPort, a mini DVI port and a FireWire 800. As for inside features, the new Mini is expected to sport a 2GHz Core 2 Duo with a 1066MHz system bus, 2GB of DDR3 memory and a SATA SuperDrive. Of course we have no official prices and no arrival dates yet. What do you think? Is this the real Mini?

  • New Mac Mini Pictures Leak

Is this the new Mac Mini in the picture here? We’ve heard various rumors and we’ve seen previous “leaked” pictures of the new expected mini desktop. According to this not-so-blurry image, the new Mini will bring you five USB ports, FireWire 800, Mini DisplayPort and Mini DVI. We have no idea if this is the actual Mini in the leaked picture here and we don’t know when the Mac Mini will actually be announced. Apple doesn’t seem in a hurry to launch it yet.

  • New Cooling System for New iMacs?

2009 will bring us among other things the new generation of iMacs. We’re actually waiting for them early next year. One of their new features might be the new cooling system according to various sources outside the Taiwanese manufacturing facilities.

Foxconn is now said to be responsible with building the new iMacs. The company will be making the new magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis. And the same company will be responsible for the cooling system.

Other rumors are saying that Apple, HP, Acer and Dell have agreed, despite rivalries, to each use the new quad-core desktop chips provided by Intel. Desktops arriving in early 2009 should receive the new chips.

The chips are the Core 2 Quad Q8200 (2.33GHz/4MB L2), Core 2 Quad Q9400 (2.66GHz/6MB L2), and Core 2 Quad Q9550 (2.83GHz/12MB L2). The chips will be operating at 65W which is 10W higher than the usual 55W iMacs chips. That’s why Apple should ask for a new cooling system to cope with the extra power.

Apple has orders for 800,000 new iMacs per quarter starting with mid-January. What else are we going to expect?

The LLUON B2 will get you a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 processor, a 320GB HDD, an NVIDIA GeForce 9300 graphics card with 256MB of video memory and a 26 inch screen. A slot-loading DVD burner, a webcam and an eSATA port can also be found in this B2 all-in-one. Those interested in this iMac contender will have to pay around $1,421. Only Korea has the all-in one for now so you’ll have to wait for it.

  • Mac Mini Leaked Already?

The new Mac Mini is supposed to arrive soon but it looks like it has already been leaked over. The picture here shows the smallest desktop in the world. First of all is that what I want? The world’s smallest desktop? What about getting a small laptop which also happen to be a really small, tiny desktop?

And what’s up with the lid? What’s cooking inside? Am I to open the Mini at any time I’d want to, you know, just to have a look inside? I imagine this is the first leaked image of the new Mini and we imagine it will be followed by others soon. Apple didn’t say anything about this one yet.

  • We’ve heard before how the Mini will definitely get refreshed and that hasn’t happen. The rumor mill goes wild once again and now people everywhere are saying that the new Mac Mini will arrive in January at Macworld Expo.

Here’s what a tipster says about the new Mac Mini:

Similar to the MacBooks, the Mac Mini will sport a silver enclosure composed of a block of aluminum. Some internal parts will be PVC-free, and combined with its size and low power requirements, Apple will tout this as the “greenest Mac ever.” For video output, the Mac Mini will use the DRM-crippled DisplayPort for connectivity, which Apple is offering to manufacturers for a no-fee license. It’ll have a CD-DVD slot loader (i.e. Super Drive). There will be no Blu-ray player, because Steve Jobs believes the format is a “bag of hurt.”

We’re just going to have to wait a little longer to have all this confirmed.

Designed to be a small and affordable but still quite capable storage server, the ARTiGO A2000 was released by VIA Technology today. It features a 1.5GHz VIA C7-D processor and VIA VX800 Unified Digital Media IGP chipset. It supports two SATA II hard drives, together taking you up to 3TB of available free space! And that home server is as big as a sugar bag. You can have your choice of OS installed. It supports Ubuntu, and Windows XP or Vista!

Jerry Yuan, VIA Embedded Business Development Manager says

The VIA ARTiGO A2000 proves that small can be not only beautiful, but also substantial when it comes to storage capacity. Building on the success of the ARTiGO A1000 Pico-ITX builder kit, VIA has once again broken the mould for barebones, creating a device that embodies VIA’s reputation for innovation and creativity in small spaces.

    So how much is it?

The Core i7 processor from Intel is something I’d want to test as soon as possible. It might not be as hot as some people say, but it’s certainly the processor we’ll be using in the future.

Dell has decided it was time it inserted it in some of its desktop systems. And let’s take a look at the first two, the XPS Studio and the XPS 730x. The Studio XPS desktop base model will get you 3GB memory, 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3450 GPU and a 500GB HDD for $949. Willing to pay more? $1,499 will get you 6GB of RAM, a 512MB2 ATI Radeon HD 4850, a 750GB HDD and a 24-inch S2409W Flat panel monitor.

The XPS 730x is gaming-ready. It can hold up to 6GB DDR3 memory, an updated thermal monitoring system and chasis and a choice between ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB and NVIDIA GeForce GTX280 1024MB. The 730x starts somewhere around $2,599 and no matter what hardware you choose, Vista and i7 will be there.

What do you think? Waiting for the Core i7?

USB 3.0 to be Available by 2010

The USB 3.0 might be closer than it appears. The USB Promoter Group finalized the “SuperSpeed” USB 3.0 specification today and we are to expect more details to emerge soon.

Flash drives and hard drives are expected to be the first devices to take advantage of the new technology but we’re at least 8 months away from an USB 3.0 product release. The second half of 2009 or even later will bring us the new USB 3.0 ready drives.

How fast is USB 3.0 you ask? Well imagine a 25GB HD movie. With USB 1.0 you would copy it in 9.3 hours. With current USB 2.0 you would do it in 13.9 minutes while with USB 3.0 the job is reduced to 70 seconds. We’re looking forward to a hands-on experience, whenever that will happen! Let’s see what Intel, Microsoft, NEC and Texas Instruments are going to do with the whole USB 3.0 thing!

USB 3.0 is something we’ve been waiting for quite a while now. And it looks like we’re going to get the official specs later this month. USB-IF president Jeff Ravencraft said, at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference in Los Angeles, that the “final specifications to be made public on November 17″. Anxious to get them? Willing to change your current computer? We’ll find out more about the USB 3.0 at the SuperSpeed USB Developers Conference in San Jose in 10 days or so.

Gateway is pretty popular thanks to their powerful laptops, and they have announced 2 new desktop models: the FX6710-01 and LX6200-01. The first one is made for gamers, while the second is made to have a better multimedia experience.

The FX6710-01 is a real beast, featuring an Intel Core 2 Quad Processor, and an uncommon amount of RAM memory set at 6GB. The graphics card is powered by an ATI Radeon 4850, while the operative system is the 64-bit version of Windows Vista Home Premium, with service pack 1.

The hard-drive storage capacity is huge - 750GB - and the extras include 6 USB ports, 2 located in the front and 4 in the rear, an eSATA port, and a 15-in-1 media card reader. Priced at $1,200.
