Dell has put out the their first multitouch laptop with the Studio 17 Touch. As you might have guessed, it has support for its pre-installed Windows 7 and Dell’s own touch software.

It also has a 17.3 inch (1600 x 900) display, along with a 2.1 GHz Dual Core T4300, 320GB HDD, 4GB RAM, 512MB Radeon 4570, as well as a DVD burner. It also has 2 USB ports, a USB/eSATA, an HDMI, VGA, Firewire, and a Display Port.

All in all, not a bad seven pound laptop for $800.

  • Besides the fact that Dell will launch an Android phone in the near future, the company will also release an MID next year. And it looks like Dell will be partnering up with AT&T to launch a whole mini-tablet series.

Screen size is said to vary between 4- to 12-inches and they are likely to come with features like 3G, WiFi connectivity, a 5-megapixel camera, dual LED flash, microSD support and a 1,300mAh battery. We don’t have actual confirmations and we have no idea when these MIDs will be launched. But at least we do know they exist so we’ll be looking for more info for you in the following months.

  • I’m not certain why Dell is planning to release its first smartphone, the Mini3, to only Cina Mobile and Brazil’s Claro, but the Chinese version will use OPhone, China Mobile’s version of Google Android. It won’t have Wi-Fi in China, just like the iPhone, but it is planned to have it “soon”.

I’m not certain of the Wi-Fi in Brazil. My source was also silent on if this Dell phone was coming to America. Considering all the Android phones we’ve seen in the past few weeks, is there a point to be made by bringing the Mini 3 here?

White Space is a term used in telecommunications used to describe frequencies that should be used for broadcasting although but not used anymore. So guess what happened after everyone was forced to switch to digital TV? A bunch of frequencies out there were turned into white space so we should see plenty of networks use the freed up bands in the near future.

The first white space network is currently running in an experimental stage in Claudville, Virginia. The town’s school and computer center were equipped by Dell, Microsoft and the TDF Foundation but we have no white space network performance reports yet. Hopefully everything goes well so other similar rural areas can upgrade their current Internet connections.

  • Dell’s slimmest laptop so far, the Adamo XPS, has posed again for the camera. We still don’t know if Dell is ever going to launch the laptop officially but it would be pretty interesting to see it in action. We’re still curious to see what kind of battery Dell would fit into a case that’s just 9.99mm thick. Who would want a laptop with a poor battery just because it’s the slimmest in the world? Would you buy a Dell Adamo XPS if you had the chance? Or would you go for the MacBook Air instead?

  • Today was the day for Dell to present something different, instead of technical stuff like new features for a laptop, they just released a new line of designs made by their Design Studio.

As you can see on the image, baseball was one of the inspirations and there are 3 variations: the Mini and Studio notebooks come with a custom lid that features the team logo; the Classic version gives more detail to the background and inserts the logo on a small size; as for the Fan version it just has a big logo.

The other line that was presented has women as the target and the covers match the style of nail polishes. There are different colors like brown, pink, red, or white, and each of them has a cool swirl pattern.

The stick you see in the picture here is not a stick but it’s a future Dell laptop. The teaser picture has been released yesterday but it’s no wonder people missed it since everyone was thinking iPod thoughts. There are no details about this MacBook Air-like computer as Dell wanted to tell the world about it precisely on 09/09/09. It must have something to do with the fact that this Adamo is only 9.99mm thick. We’re not going to go into the whole numbers and their signification. After all nobody wants to turn those 9s into 6s and start thinking unholy thoughts.

Getting back to the laptop in the picture, we can expect it to cost a lot more than we would normally want to pay for a laptop running laptop and we can expect it not to impress us in any way. What do you say Dell? Can we be wrong?

  • Dell Mini 3i Pictures Emerge

We have already seen the Mini 3i smartphone from Dell but we return with more pictures depicting Dell’s first phone. The phone has gotten the hands on treatment somewhere in China and, as you can easily see, it was already measured up against the iPhone. And from the looks of the screenshots here it looks like the Mini 3i was already officially shown somewhere in China. What do you have to say Dell? Is the smartphone coming soon or are we totally wrong?

In case color is important for you then you should know that Dell is ready to offer you both the Studio XPS 13 and 16 laptops in white. Dell has brought the color back after discontinuing it a while ago. If you’re ready to pay $40 for an “Arctic White High Gloss” hue then go ahead and order your new Dell Studio XPS laptop now. In case color is not that important then I’m sure you will be able to invest that extra $40 in something more useful.

    Dell Mini 3i not official?

Despite us clearly seeing the phone in the flesh (and assuming it was made official) Dell represenatives have stepped forward to say that the phone you saw, wasn’t actually a real phone. In fact, they are saying the Dell Mini 3i we saw was nothing more than a “proof of concept” to let everyone know that they are in fact making a Android/oPhone based handset for China Mobile.

Regardless of what PR stunt Dell is trying to pull here, I think it’s safe to assume that we will in fact be seeing the Mini 3i hit China Mobile at some point in the future. We’ll just have to wait for Dell to come forth and tell us they were kidding, and that the phone we previously saw is actually real.

    Dell Mini 3i cell phone

It seems that those blurry pictures we got of Dell’s rumored smartphone were real as today the phone was officially revealed in China. The device itself is called the Mini 3i and is running Google’s Android operating system. The device, however, does not feature WiFi or 3G connectivity and instead just EDGE.

If that little tidbit didn’t turn you away, read on for the rest of the specs:

    • GSM/GPRS/EDGE
    • 3.5″ 640×360 touchscreen LCD
    • OTA
    • Microsoft Exchange
    • Google, AIM, Yahoo, MSN
    • 3 MP camera with auto-focus, flash, 8x digital zoom and 30fps video recording capabilities
    • USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.0
    • A-GPS
    • Software QWERTY keyboard, handwriting recognition, multi touch UI
    • microSD slot

Unfortunately there is no word on when (if ever) we will see Dell’s Mini 3i hit North American shelves.

Way back in June we showed you a blurry picture of what was supposedly Dell’s debut smartphone. Today, the guys over at BGR, have given us another look at the phone and if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know these pictures look exactly like said blurry picture.

Additionally, we have included a list of reportedly leaked details regarding Dell’s smartphone:

    • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE class 12
    • Size: 68.6cc
    • 103g grams weight
    • Dimensions: 58 x 122 x 11.7mm
    • Display: 3.5″ nHD 640×360 LCD, 18-bit, 262K colors
    • OTA capable
    • Microsoft Exchange support
    • Google, AIM, Yahoo and MSN IM support
    • 3 megapixel auto-focus, flash, 8x digital zoom camera with 30fps video shooting mode, built in photo editor
    • USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
    • A-GPS
    • On-screen QWERTY keyboard, hardwriting recognition, multi touch UI
    • MicroSD slot

Unfortunately we still don’t have word on a release date but considering it is supposed to launch in China, the chances of us seeing a worldwide release remain slim.

Recent rumors suggest that Dell is prepping to launch their debut smartphone in China within the next couple of days.

Of course, if this smartphone actually does hit the Chinese market the chances of the rest of the world ever seeing it are incredibly slim. However, if and when it is released we will be given a general idea of what Dell has cookin’ in terms of smartphones.

As always, don’t put too much stock into this rumor considering Dell has yet to confirm it.
