All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

Yesterday, we were greeted with the report that Apple had rejected the official Google Voice app from the App Store. This decision effectively left iPhone users looking to utilize the Google Voice service in the dark. Today, we are greeted with a ray of hope, if you’re willing to jailbreak your iPhone, that is.

It seems that the maker of the original unofficial Google Voice app that was pulled from the App Store decided to port the application over to Cydia making it available to those with a jailbroken handset. Below is a list of features included in the GV Mobile app:

  • dial numbers via the iPhone address book or typing on the keypad
  • Full SMS support (view historic, reply, send new)
  • retrieve and delete recent call history
  • playback and delete voicemails
  • take calls from different phones other than your iPhone
  • enable or disable the phones that Google Voice forwards calls to
  • add or delete phones that Google Voice forwards call to.

As of right now the app is completely free but the creator is accepting so if you’re in a good mood and use GV Mobile, send a few dollars his way.

Cydia to Launch Own App Store?

If you’re not exactly thrilled about the way Apple handles its famous App Store then you’re probably running lots of applications from the black market on an unlocked and jailbroken iPhone. And you’re probably going to enjoy a new iPhone app store if it would sell only jailbroken apps too.

Cydia is going to launch its own iPhone app store which is going to be called Rock Your Phone. In it you’re going to find all the jailbroken apps your wished for. How will Apple respond? When will RYP (interesting acronym) be launched?

Rumors say that besides Cydia’s store, an adult iPhone app store is in the works too. Looks like everyone wants in the iPhone business, don’t they?
