A new software platform has been released by Recursion Software, the Voyager 7.2 that will help software architects and developers come up with single set APIs for peer to peer application messaging for practically all major mobile phones. With the new platform, gadgets ranging from mobile phones to laptops can share their contacts and files to their network without the use of other interfaces of downloading and uploading the files which takes time to execute. Catered to serve mobile handsets such as the iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Symbian phones, the Voyager 7.2 was demonstrated at the 2009 CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment Conference in San Diego. Restrictions of the iPhone have become an opportunity for competitors to bank on as the Palm Pre has announced that they will highlight such restrictions and perhaps shift the user preference in their favor with the shortcomings of the Apple iPhone.
At Sprint’s press lounge during the CTIA Wireless Association’s annual event, Palm stressed the advantages of the new webOS platform at the heart of the Pre by running presentations of carefully selected third-party software live on sample phones.
The most advanced was Pandora’s Internet radio app. On an iPhone OS device, the music service is partly neutered by Apple’s refusal to allow true background tasks, preventing users from listening to streams while they run other chores; on the Palm Pre, Pandora not only runs in the background but hooks into the always-on notification bar to let listeners approve or dismiss songs without having to even switch active tasks.
Regardless of what the Pre and webOS may do correctly for app developers, however, timing may potentially sink Palm’s success in attracting developers as wells as Palm owners. Palm and Sprint continue to cling to a “first half of 2009″ release date in spite of more than half of that time already having disappeared. With a late spring launch now the most likely, Palm may have to contend directly with Apple’s third-generation iPhone launch expected at or around WWDC in June.

Here is an add-on for portable devices, like laptops, that is sure to be a great peripheral for people who don’t have the luxury of time. Sierra Wireless today introduced the Sierra Wireless AirCard 402, the first product in the Sierra Wireless AirCard product line to offer 2-in-1 functionality.
The AirCard 402 is a PC Card that offers the convenience of switching to the ExpressCard form factor whenever required. By offering both PC and ExpressCard form factors in a single device, Sierra Wireless spares customers the expense of purchasing a new mobile broadband device when they upgrade their notebook computers.
Designed for time-crunched mobile professionals, the AirCard 402 data card is remarkably compact and simple to use. It can be safely stored in the computer’s PC Card slot or ExpressCard slot for quick and easy internet access on-the-fly - its low profile and durable design allows users to carry the notebook with the card in place, and the AirCard 402 can be set to reconnect automatically when the computer is reopened.
Sierra Wireless will demonstrate the AirCard 402 data card at CTIA Wireless 2009, to be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from April 1 to 3.
