New Cooling System for New iMacs?

2009 will bring us among other things the new generation of iMacs. We’re actually waiting for them early next year. One of their new features might be the new cooling system according to various sources outside the Taiwanese manufacturing facilities.

Foxconn is now said to be responsible with building the new iMacs. The company will be making the new magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis. And the same company will be responsible for the cooling system.

Other rumors are saying that Apple, HP, Acer and Dell have agreed, despite rivalries, to each use the new quad-core desktop chips provided by Intel. Desktops arriving in early 2009 should receive the new chips.

The chips are the Core 2 Quad Q8200 (2.33GHz/4MB L2), Core 2 Quad Q9400 (2.66GHz/6MB L2), and Core 2 Quad Q9550 (2.83GHz/12MB L2). The chips will be operating at 65W which is 10W higher than the usual 55W iMacs chips. That’s why Apple should ask for a new cooling system to cope with the extra power.

Apple has orders for 800,000 new iMacs per quarter starting with mid-January. What else are we going to expect?

One of the perks of having a laptop as the main working station is being able to virtually work anywhere. Online or offline, as long as there’s a full battery you can step away from your formal office desk and work from your bed or favorite armchair.

The problem with keeping your laptop on your lap is that the excessive heat might be the cause of infertility. And since this a studied and proven fact, accessories manufacturers keep coming up with solutions for cooling those hot laptops down. Belkin has a new cooling lounge for your laptop. The adjustable height and the size, it can hold a 17 inch easily, makes me an interested customer. I am mostly avoiding desks and uncomfortable chairs. Once it gets out, this cooling device will sell for $39.99 which isn’t bad at all.

    zephyr_air.jpg

Apple’s Macbook Air has at least one important problem to solve, and that is overheating. This problem has been reported and I would assume Apple would solve it by the time they launch the next version. Just in case your Air needs more air in order for you to keep doing what you’re doing without any time off for cooling, here’s an external cooler, the Zephyr from Moshi. It might be the world’s slimmest cooler designed for the world’s slimmest laptop.
