Can you imagine being given the privilege of calling anyone from anywhere in the world for free? Now that is something all of us would need especially during these times. And thanks to Witel, you can do so. All you have to do is get one of these Witel Phones called the Jetter, look for a place that has good Wi-Fi connectivity and you are on your way.

The whole concept seems to be somehow familiar to Skype but the thing is, you don’t need a computer to aid you in making calls. The Jetter is all you will need, a handset that will allow you to make and receive calls on any Wi-Fi network. Using the Jetter is simple – just turn it on and enter your Witel phone number and password, and it will automatically begin sniffing for Wi-Fi networks. Once you’re on a network the phone is ready to be used.

Witel offers two calling plans priced at $9.99/mo and $19.99/mo respectively with no additional charges, no activation fees, no increases after several months, and no long-term contracts.

Witel plans are available to anyone in the world and are packed with incredible features such as:

    • Free Global Witel to Witel calls – Any two Witel subscribers from anywhere in the world may place free calls.
    • Free Global Incoming Calls – Say goodbye to roaming charges as incoming calls to a Witel phone are always free no matter where the subscriber may be on the planet.

Here is a great new device that techie people will love. If you are envious about the Sony Vaio users, here is an alternative mobile computing device you can consider getting. It is the Wistron Firstbook.

The Wistron Firstbook will have the ARM Snapdragon processor running within, and also holds the distinction of being the first Linux-based netbook. The Firstbook shares some resemblance to a Sony Vaio P and features the following:

    • integrated 3G WWAN connectivity
    • 11.1″ widescreen display
    • Bluetooth
    • Wi-Fi support

It remains to be seen though if the Wistron Snapdragon netbook will make it to the masses, or is just a demonstration platform for ARM.

    Solar Powered CDMA Phone

Public payphones are still handy contraptions to use and one thing we should not overlook is the power needed to assist in their operations. And apparently, Sri Lanka has quite a number of them and to continue patronizing the paying public, a solar-powered public CDMA phone has been unveiled.

“This phone has been designed to overcome limitations in expanding payhones coverage such as restricted access to wired telephone connectivity and availability of electricity as the only source of power,” Tritel Services Ltd Chief Operating Officer Ushatha Thilakeratne said.

The company has invested USD 3 million for the first phase of this project. They are planning to install 6,000 CDMA payphones in the country by the end of this year and are targetting 10,000 payphones with the existing Tritel phones.
