Compaq reveals Mini 700 netbook

Compaq has joined the fresh market of netbooks, and decided to reveal their new Mini 700 computer that is pretty similar to the HP Mini 100 - not only in terms of features, but also on the design and name.

Anyhow, one of the main differences between the two netbooks is the option of a HSDPA modem on the Mini 700 from Compaq. The other important detail is the price, it is close to $490 which is less $150 than the HP product. Another difference is the launch date, which in Compaq’s case will be made late this year in December, on the UK.

General Specifications:

- Intel Atom N270 1.6Ghz processor
- From 512MB up to 2GB of memory RAM

  • Circuit City has recently added a new Compaq laptop to their online catalog, the Presario CQ70. The real price of the notebook is $730, but adding the rebates of $120 and $30 makes the price drop to $580, which in the end is a really nice price.

To start with, the Presario CQ70 boasts an Intel processor - Pentium Dual Core 2GHz - and 3GB of DDR2 RAM memory. The screen is in the high category of 17-inches and thanks to the GMA 4500MHD graphics processor you’ve got a 1440×990 resolution. The hard-drive of the CQ70 can store 205GB of data, and the connectivity options include WiFi (802.11a/b/g/n) and 3 USB ports.

A DVD burner + VGA port + full-sized keyboard is also included in the sweet deal.

The HP Compaq Presario V3000T delivers an impressive blend of style and portability. Like the dv2000 systems, this one has a whole new look, with a shiny, brushed-silver finish on the outside and a sleek, black resin finish inside. You’ll also be quick to notice the sporty grille above the keyboard, which houses the Altec Lansing speakers. Some may prefer the dv2000t because of its built-in webcam, but you won’t find a better budget dual-core notebook than the V3000T.

The V3000T is powered by Intel’s 1.6-GHz Core Duo T2050 with 512MB of DDR2 memory. A MobileMark 2005 score of 208 with Wi-Fi enabled is just average for this class of notebook; a bump up to a 2-GHz chip and another 512MB of RAM will provide a significant performance boost but will set you back an additional $200. Also, multimedia enthusiasts will likely find the 60GB hard drive too small for storing lots of digital audio and video files.

Wireless throughput was decent, with the V3000T averaging 12.7 Mbps at a distance of 15 feet from our access point, and 11.7 Mbps at 50 feet. The V3000T offers plenty of connectivity options, including three USB ports, FireWire, VGA, and S-Video outputs, and an Expansion port connector. There’s also a 5-in-1 memory card reader.
