After we’ve seen the first Nokia netbook get launched earlier this week, we can certainly assume that Nokia will not stop here. In fact it looks like Nokia has big plans for the near future. After the Booklet 3G, the company is getting ready to launch an ARM-based smartbook sometime next year. We don’t have all the details just yet but it’s said that the smartbook will be launched in mid-2010 and that Foxconn Electronics or Compal Electronics are the companies that are going to produce the new Nokia gadget.

Remember that Palm Eos phone we were talking about way before the Pre actually arrived in Sprint stores? Well it looks like a GSM/HSPA version of it is scheduled for an October release. It seems that AT&T is the carrier that will launch the phone and Compal will send anywhere from 400,000 to 500,000 Eos phones to the USA. In case you’re still a CDMA/EV-DO kind of person then you should expect Verizon or Sprint to launch the Eos sometime next year.
What do you think folks, will the Eos be even more successful than the Pre? We have no official features to work with so far but at least we know that Palm has opened submissions for the App Catalog. By October we can expect lots of applications to be available in the App Catalog which means future Eos owners will have a lot more apps ready to be downloaded than the first Pre buyers did. What about you? Are you going to get a Palm Eos phone later this year?

We can honestly say that we knew this was bound to happen. The minute Intel and Nokia shook hands thinking at the future of mobile devices, people must have started wandering when the first Nokia laptop should arrive. And Nokia is on track with its laptop plans for this year. Together with Intel it will launch an Atom-based netbook sometime in the third quarter of the year, according to the Commercial Times.
The Nokiabook will probably be made by Compal and Quanta, two companies well versed in the netbook-making business. Compal will go even further and create a Qualcomm Snapdragon Nokia smartbook but we don’t have any specific details for any of those future Nokia devices just yet.

Remember this picture? We found this picture about a week ago and were wondering what it is and whose it belongs to. Well it seems the swivel mystery device has been tagged as a Compal Tabasco MID. It’s supposed to be a 4.5-5 inch touchscreen that could be swiveling to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard if it wants to. It features dual cameras, with a front facing webcam and a 3.2 MP camera with a 2x optical zoom and a flash. It doesn’t sound that bad! The design doesn’t necessarily make my day but hey it’s a prototype anyway.
In case you were wondering who Compal is, I can tell you this much: it’s a relatively middleweight company active in the IT universe. They have some notebooks, monitors and more. Is it coming to the smartphone universe?
