Star Trek USB Communicator Phone

Star Trek USB Communicator Phone

The Star Trek USB Communicator Internet Phone  that was re-released just in time to ride the wave of the Star Trek movie this summer. This VoIP handset has USB plug-and-play, making it compatible with most popular software including MSN, Skype, AIM, Ichat and others.

It also comes with a built-in microphone and earphone, as well as an incorporated speaker with 21 funky sound effects. You might not hitch a ride to outerspace with this, but perhaps you can pretend you’re talking to someone else on another planet. Retails for around $43.00.

  • The device in the picture is not a cell phone yet but it might very well be. It’s not a watch phone like the one LG has launched but it might very well be. The device is an OLED communications devices designed to be worn around the wrist.

    The only thing we do know so far is the fact that Universal Display Corporation will make this 4 inch OLED device for the military and it will be set on a metal foil and offer those military guys a crisp picture and wide viewing angle. Is UDC going to make it for the general public? When? How much will one cost?

    Nokia has a new patent ready for a future communicator. The device has four pieces which are all foldable. Two of them will compose the screen while two of them will get us a full QWERTY keyboard. Nokia says the device will be used for media, games and communication but we have no idea what exactly Nokia has in mind.

    How big will this communicator actually be? And what about that keyboard? Is it completely usable? From these pictures it doesn’t seem to me that it’s that comfortable using it for writing.

    HTC’s new communicator device is almost here. HTC calls it, the Opal which seems to be a successor to the HTC Touch. Details of the device’ features mentioned some good and bad aspects. On the negative side, the handset doesn’t support 3G, however, it does feature TouchFLO 3D interface, found on the HTC Touch Diamond and Pro.

    Powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and featuring HTC’s TouchFLO user interface, the HTC Opal’s specifications sheet shows a large 2.8″ QVGA resolution touchscreen display.

    The HTC Opal appears to offer quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz) support, in addition to built-in WiFi for fast data speeds. The 2 megapixel camera should be able to capture decent photos, and its microSD card slot should offer plenty of storage.

    HTC Opal Specifications:

    * Networks GSM / GPRS / EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz;
    * Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS;
    * TI OMAP 850 processor, 200 MHz;
    * 256 MB ROM, 128 MB RAM, microSD slot;
