LG Has LTE Modem Ready?

The future of mobile communications is LTE but it’s going to be a while until we will be able to enjoy it. In the mean time the major carriers and cell phone manufacturers are working on the proper equipment and the necessary network upgrades. LG is one of them and the company has just showed the first LTE USB modem to the world at CommunicAsia 2009. The modem will offer speeds of up to 100Mbps which is impressive for a mobile network.

We can expect the modem in stores some time next year but not sooner. LTE networks will be available to the public by next year so we can only assume LG will start selling proper equipment by then. We have no confirmation so far and there’s no pricing for this modem prototype yet.

Haier is probably not your favorite cell phone manufacturer but it could very well become one. The company has Android plans apparently and its first Android phone will be probably launched in September. Called the H7, this new handset is expected in France at least. The phone has been displayed at CommunicAsia 2009 and it will pack a 2.8-inch touchscreen, a 2-megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi and Android 2.0 in the background. The phone will sell for $150 with a contract but we don’t have all the details just yet.

Huawei has announced two new smartphones at CommunicAsia 2009, the U8230 and the C8000. The first one is an Android-powered device which will feature a 3.5-inch touchscreen, a 3.2 megapixel camera and an impressive 1500 mAh battery. The second one is of course a Windows Mobile phone. It has a smaller 2.8-inch touchscreen, an extra 3D UI, an independent media-related display adapter and a battery capable of 6-8 hours of media playback. Will these features be enough for Huawei to conquer any mobile market? The phones will be available in both Asia and Europe in the second half of the year but we still have to wait for prices.

Sony Ericsson has a new special event scheduled for this Wednesday, June 17. The company will probably launch at least one new phone if not more. Are we going to see that much rumored Xperia X2 officially emerge? What else could Sony Ericsson have up its sleeve? It should be pretty hot considering that Sony Ericsson wants to absolutely launch something ahead of the CommunicAsia event. Sony Ericsson’s event is scheduled for 4:30PM Singapore time and we’ll show you soon the new phones.

  • It’s been a while since we heard anything new on Sony Ericsson’s upcoming flagship device, the Xperia X1, but the device was seen lurking around at the CommunicAsia fair held in Singapore recently. I have said it already and will still say that this is one hot device that I truly look forward to in 2008. The VGA screen really stands out, even though we are just looking at pictures. Makes us want to forgive Sony Ericsson for dumping the BeiBei and Paris, doesn’t it? If you missed out on the specs from our earlier coverage, here’s what you will get when the device hits the stores:

    • Quad-band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA network support
    • 3-inch VGA touchscreen display at 800×480 resolution
    • Windows Mobile 6.1
    • Full QWERTY arc-slide-out keypad
    • Assisted GPS
    • WiFi
    • Bluetooth with A2DP profile
    • 3.2-megapixel camera

With its slide-out QWERTY keypad and the flashily stylish red attire aside, the LG KS360 is pretty much any other 2.5G cell phone that is available in the market now. The horizontal 2.4-inch display has a resolution of 240×320 pixels and there’s a 2-megapixel on the back for your casual photography needs. The KS360 is designed to work with triband GSM topping out with GPRS/EDGE connectivity. LG has also thrown in a music player and an FM radio to go with the snazzy color, so this might be a good option for your musically inclined nephew or niece. USB 2.0 support along with Bluetooth round its connectivity options. There is no word on pricing or availability but we could be looking at an Asian release pretty soon.
