Here’s something that should not come as a surprise whatsoever — Recent reports suggest that T-Mobile is currently negotiating a deal with MetroPCS and Clearwire that will effectively expand their 4G network to a broader market.
This goes along with the fact that Sprint too is looking to expand their 4G network as a negotiation with Clearwire which they hold a 51% stake in.
Unfortunately we have no other information regarding the expansion but more is sure to be made known at some point in the near future.

Don’t act so surprised, after all this was bound to happen sooner or later. Sprint counts on its WiMAX network to bring 4G speeds to its customers so we should get used to see various phones in the near future coming out with WiMAX capabilities. Naturally future Android phones will be WiMAX-enabled too. Sprint has just started its Android adventure and the carrier should definitely be interested in launching even more Android phones in the following years.
According to various analysts, Sprint is going to work with Samsung on WiMAX Android phones and the manufacturer should have the first Android phone capable of both 3G and 4G connectivity by the time Clearwire reaches 100 million subscribers. That should happen by the end of 2010 at which point we should assume that Sprint and Clearwire will have brought WiMAX to most U.S. markets.

Prices haven’t been announced so far but you can expect to pay anywhere from $20 to $50 per month. What do you think? Ready for some 4G action?

Even if Nokia is more interested in LTE than WiMAX, Clearwire will continue its WiMAX network expansion. Together with Sprint, Clearwire will launch the “Clear” WiMAX service in Las Vegas, Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Baltimore, Seattle, Honolulu and Charlotte in 2009. New York, Boston, Washington D.C, Houston and the San Francisco Bay Area will get the 4G network by next year. WiMAX should arrive in more than 80 markets by 2010 so get ready to embrace it!
In the mean time all WiMAX subscribers will receive a 3G/4G modem this summer. That way they will be able to connect both to Sprint’s EV-DO Rev A and to Clearwire’s 4G WiMAX network.

It doesn’t seem that mobile companies are going to take a break even with the Christmas dangerously approaching. The carrier has announced it’s first dual-mode 3G/4G USB wireless broadband modem today and it will start selling it this Sunday.
Look for the Sprint 3G/4G USB Modem U300 if you happen to lie under the 4G Clearwire umbrella. You should expect download speeds from 2 Mbps to 4 Mbps where 4G is available. If 3G is available then you will get speeds from 600 Kbps to 1.4 Mbps.
The new dongle doesn’t come as cheap as you would expect it. It costs $149.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and with a two-year subscription to a data service. If you’re thinking about getting one of them new laptops with built-in WiMAX cards then think again! Such laptops will only pick up 4G signals whereas the USB modem will get you 3G or 4G connectivity. Looking at the mighty dollar, you’ll have to know that getting a Sprint new data plan will cost $79.99 per month while getting a Clearwire plan will cover the 4G connectivity for $45 while a Sprint 3G plan will cost you another $59.99 per month. You do the math!

After Sprint has completed its merger with Clearwire it has decided to change his WiMAX network name from XOHM to 4G. But what’s in a name anyway? More importantly the carrier will start rolling dual-mode CDMA/WiMAX ready routers some time later this year. Following the new routers 4G ready handsets will follow. That’s the most interesting part. The new phones will arrive sometime next year. Dare we dream to see 4G spreading as soon as next year? Is Sprint ready for the next step in our relationship? You know, moving from Baltimore to North America and then the whole world? Well maybe not the whole world, it’s Sprint not Pinky and the Brain!
