Now don’t get all scared/excited folks! This is just a rumor circling the web today. It seems that Apple is considering replacing NVIDIA chips in its future Macs as it looks like negotiations between the two companies have come to a halt. Is AMD/ATI stepping in? Are we going to see Apple work with Intel? Are the new Macs going to have Core i7 chips under the hood? Is that even possible at this point? Right now we don’t have any official position from neither Apple nor NVIDIA. We can assume that Apple is punishing NVIDIA for the recent chip defects spotted in new Macs. And considering the fact that the Cupertino-based company has been hiring lots of former AMD graphics employees we can also assume that something’s happening and the future of MacBooks might be totally different.

When did this happen? I mean I know we told you Bluetooth 3.0 was officially unveiled and everyone’s excited about it but I wasn’t expecting manufacturers to show viable chips already. It looks like Broadcom did its homework and now it has the first certified Bluetooth 3.0 chip, the BCM4325. The new chip will use the new Bluetooth 3.0 protocols and it should be available soon for new devices. All it needs now is a great battery to make all those fast downloads happen.

Stop the presses people! It appears there’s a new generation iPhone coming our way! Well actually that’s not exactly news since we are all expecting for that to happen.
Senior manager of Apple’s chip team, a certain Wei-han Lien has thought about sharing his job description on LinkedIn. He’s profile says he is currently in charge of the ARM CPU architecture team for the iPhone. Since both iPhones so far have their particular ARM processors ready we would assume that he should be managing the ARM processor for the next generation iPhone. If that’s all true, someone is going to get in trouble for sharing all that info all of a sudden… Oh and Mr. Wei-han Lien, please tell them about the copy paste thing. I know it’s not your domain since you are managing the ARM CPU architecture team but you might give it a try!
So is Apple getting custom chips for its new generation of iPhones? Are they getting them from the P.A. Semiconductor company they have purchased? The company is said to be able to make powerful, cheap and energy saving chips. Hmmm, longer battery life you say?

Apparently Apple means serious business. They have just placed a huge order for Samsung NAND flash chips. They want 50 million of them, and that’s an extra order to their 25 million chip order in June. Samsung will reduce supply to all other customers as they will be focusing on their main order from Apple.
In case you were wondering what the NAND flash chips are for, they will be used mainly for iPhones. So how many iPhones does Apple think it will sell? They have ordered so far 75 million from Samsung. They are all 8Gb equivalent NAND flash chips. Let’s see how the iPhone selling goes in the following month. I wonder if Samsung offers refunds for unused chips?
So Samsung, are you offering any salsa with those chips?

Understanding the value of modern-day mobile gadgetry, Intel has unveiled a new chip geared towards mobile technology use in this year’s CES ‘08. The chip is dubbed “Canmore.” It’s pretty much like the standard Intel chip except it’s designed to handle 3D graphics, surround sound and high-definition video. Canmore was probably an outgrowth of the sluggish pace of the PC world. The Canmore chip will be commercially available by the second half of 2008.
