All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

Almost every single phone that receives any amount of hype is bound to get knocked off by some bootleg Chinese handset manufacturer. One phone we haven’t seen knocked off is the Palm Pre, until now, that is.

What you see above is said Palm Pre knock offd that features both a touch screen and slide out QWERTY keyboard. Additionally, it runs the OPhone OS, analog TV, an FM radio and Bluetooth.

Sounds pretty enticing, huh? If you really want such a knock off, it’ll run you right around $90.

If you thought the knock-off factories in China are out of commission, think again.  The latest gizmo to be ripped off is the GD900’s transparent keypad, ported over to a cellphone called Flourite N68.  While it may be transparent, the N68’s keypad doesn’t have any of the other capabilities that the G900’s pad boasts of, like multitouch and gesture support.  The other specs are pretty much in par with the standard Chinese features:  a 2.2 inch display, dual SIM support, FM radio, support for 13 languages, and Bluetooth.  Price you ask? Just 480 Yuan (about $70) a pop, which makes this a very sweet deal, fake or not.

  • The iPhone’s official Chinese debut may not be far off as recent reports suggest that China Unicom has ordered 5 million devices from Apple to the tune of 10 billion yuan (around $1.46 billion). This deal came to life after Apple and China Unicom reportedly worked out a deal to disable the phone’s WiFi making it legal to sell in China.

There’s no word on when China Unicom will actually make the iPhone available for purchase but our sources seem to be sure that it will be sometime in September.

    Olympics Water Cube Phone

The Chinese have copied something again, but this time, for a change, it’s not a cell phone design or the user interface that they have nicked. The Olympics Water Cube Phone borrows its outer shell design from the Beijing National Aquatics Center, where Michael Phelps proved yet again that he was more of a fish than human. This candybar’s design mimics the bubblewrap-like appearance of the building in up to six different colors to choose from with a 3D interface for its 2.4-inch 260k color display. Otherwise, the specs are pretty run-of-the-mill with triband GSM support, Bluetooth, TV receiver, stereo Bluetooth, media player, USB support, an unspecificed camera, and a TF slot for further expansion to 1GB. If this has you all excited, head over to SourcingGate to snag one for $175.

  • It’s real. The Chinese have done it! Seeing past the blatantly iPhonish icons and interface, we really have to hand it to them for getting it out so fast. Behold the CKing Epoq EGP-PP01, the first commercially available cell phone with a built-in microprojector. We didn’t know its proper name when last reported it, but a lot more than just the name has emerged since then. This CKing marvel can beam out a 640×480-pixel image of whatever you care to project whereever you want to for up to 2 hours before asking for more juice. There are other features to complement the projector including a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, mp3/mp4 player with multimedia recording and playback, and USB support. The Epoq EGP-PP01 also boasts of a 2.4 inch QVGA  touchscreen and can be connected to any compatible DVD player or portable media player, although we are not sure how this little home theater accomplishes that. Too bad it supports only GSM 900/1800/1900 triband networks, because 3G support would have surely earned a bit more respect than what we have for it right now. There is no information on availability (most probably limited to China for now) but the price stands at $550, not much for a pocket theater if you ask us.

  • Along with its diminutive size, the I Sport W18 mp3 player brings some key features that Apple omitted from the iPod Shuffle. Thanks to the 90nm Sigmatel 3710 chip that is present inside, the W18 can provide up to a whole day of music, thumping at a 95dB signal-to-noise ratio quality. The player also has a small LCD screen, great for timing your morning runs with the built-in stopwatch.

The I Sport W18 comes in Black, Blue, Red, Yellow, and Green, to go with your favorite pair of running shoes. There are no details on its pricing or availability, but we’ll let you know when we know!

  • QKfone WF820 watchphone

Even watchphone enthusiasts might want to shy away from the WF820 if they ever lay their eyes on its bulky size and awkward-looking design. While the CECT watchphone settled for a keypad on the strap, QKfone’s WF820 added the buttons around its 1.3-inch touchscreen TFT display, making it look like a restraint more than a watch or a phone. But other than that, you get what is expected of a watchphone from China including Bluetooth, T-Flash memory support, media player, FM radio, and GPRS support. I don’t see a price tag but I don’t see you being overly excited about it either. Read on for some more pictures…
