If you didn’t know, Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt has been a member of Apple’s Board of Directors for some time now. However, now that Google is developing their own operating system to compete with Apple’s OS X the position has apparantly caused enough conflict for Mr. Schmidt to resign from the board.

Below is Steve Jobs’ comment on Schmidt’s departure:

Eric has been an excellent Board member for Apple, investing his valuable time, talent, passion and wisdom to help make Apple successful. Unfortunately, as Google enters more of Apple’s core businesses, with Android and now Chrome OS, Eric’s effectiveness as an Apple Board member will be significantly diminished, since he will have to recuse himself from even larger portions of our meetings due to potential conflicts of interest. Therefore, we have mutually decided that now is the right time for Eric to resign his position on Apple’s Board.

Now, this might seem obvious, but at least we can now say we have official confirmation — AT&T CEO, Randall Stephenson, recently took center stage at the Brainstorm: Tech conference to say “there will be a day when you are not exclusive with the iPhone”.

Don’t go canceling your AT&T subscriptions just yet because he gave us no word on when exactly said exclusivity will end. It could be next year, it could be 5 years from now, for all we know.

However, if recent rumors about Apple and Verizon gettin’ all buddy-buddy are to be believed, we may have a hint as to what carrier will get the iPhone next.

I bet you keep your cell phone number private right? Or at least you think you do! It looks like anyone could find out any cell phone number and corresponding address and make an inappropriate visit to your house with a bullhorn and a message.

That’s what John Hargrave did! He went to Verizon’s CEO, Mr. Ivan Seidenberg, and called him out to tell him how important privacy should be. Nobody wants a freak with a bullhorn showing up.

The video is hilarious but I can’t but wonder about Seidenberg whereabouts. What if he wasn’t home? Well at least YouTube can show him what happened.

What do you think? Is your privacy safe?

Steve Ballmer has been known to make some rather colorful comments on everything from the iPhone to the Xbox 360’s Project Natal. This time however, Ballmer has kept his cool giving some comments on Google’s recently announced Chrome OS.

When question about the operating system Ballmer was quoted to have said, “I will be respectful, who knows what this thing is? To me, the Chrome OS thing is highly interesting.” Of course, what would a Ballmer comment be without just a dash of hostility? He then went on to say, “I don’t know if they can’t make up their mind or what the problem is over there, but the last time I checked, you don’t need two client operating systems. It’s good to have one.”

But wait Mr. Ballmer, aren’t you the CEO of a company that currently Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows CE and Windows Mobile on the market? No? OK, just checking.

What kind of phone would you expect Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, to use? An Android powered phone, right? Or at least an iPhone given the companie’s close alliances. Well, if you guessed either of those, you’re wrong

As you can see from the above picture, Mr. Schmidt would much rather opt for a BlackBerry rather than an Android powered handset or even an iPhone.

But wait, at least he has a Google sticker on the back so he isn’t doing all wrong.

Mobile browsing can be a drag if you are not confident of the actual browser you are using. And while many of us have our preferences on whether to use Opera, Safari or UCWEB, add a new browser on your possible browsing software preference with the launch of GO.

GO is a brainchild of China’s 3G.cn. GO brings a tremendous change on your browser options. Compared with the previous PLAYER, 3G.cn’s advantages in user number and traffic flow will add more confidence to the browser which sounds vigorous.

“GO stands for a new start. 3G era is coming. The experience and standard of mobile applications are changed totally.” As usual, Yuqiang Deng, CEO of 3G.cn takes technology and product as impetus. Due to 3G.cn’s industrial position and its dual-core strategy known as “portal plus mobile applications”, the browser GO became a topic unceasingly guessed about in the industry before it was released.

It looks like Apple’s CEO had a liver transplant about two months ago in Tennessee. Steve Jobs will apparently return to work sometime later this month. Will Apple host a special event featuring Jobs at the end of June as it was speculated before?

Here’s what the Wall Street Journal is saying about the liver transplant:

William Hawkins, a doctor specializing in pancreatic and gastrointestinal surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., said that the type of slow-growing pancreatic tumor Mr. Jobs had will commonly metastasize in another organ during a patient’s lifetime, and that the organ is usually the liver. “All total, 75% of patients are going to have the disease spread over the course of their life,” said Dr. Hawkins, who has not treated Mr. Jobs.

Getting a liver transplant to treat a metastasized neuroendocrine tumor is controversial because livers are scarce and the surgery’s efficacy as a cure hasn’t been proved, Dr. Hawkins added. He said that patients whose tumors have metastasized can live for as many as 10 years without any treatment so it is hard to determine how successful a transplant has been in curing the disease.

We wish all the best to Steve Jobs and we’ll be waiting to see what wild Apple products he will come up with next. When he’s good and ready of course!

  • Just yesterday we notified you that Jon Rubinstein would be taking over Ed Colligan’s as Palm’s CEO and now news regarding the financial backings of it all are leaking out.

Apparantly, Jon Rubinstein’s new salary, before taxes, is set at $850,000. And, to add to that, he has a 100% chance of an annual bonus eligibility and “stock option grant of 430,000 shares vested monthly over the next 4 years”. While this may make some green with envy we have to give it to the man because without Mr. Rubinstein the Palm Pre probably wouldn’t have ever made it to market.

But what about ol’ CEO Ed Colligan? Well, he’ll recieve a cool $1.2 million to take a seat and let Rubinstein take over.

It was recently announced that Jon Rubinstein, a man celebrated for finally getting the Palm Pre out the door, has replaced Ed Colligan as CEO of the company.

After a seemingly much needed leave of absence, Colligan will take up a position as Elevation Partners, one of the major investors in Palm.

If you don’t know Jon Rubinstein he used to work at Apple as senior vice president of their iPod division only to leave the company in 2006 to become executive chairman of the board for Palm. Maybe a new CEO will put Palm right back in the game, or at least I assume that’s what they are hoping for.

Here comes a unique and different type of a game, something that may be of interest to novice hackers wannabe out there. The game calls for a user to try and hack a network of computers using arsenals that include viruses or bounce your connection through hacked servers to avoid being caught. In short, it is similar to any strategy game only that the setting is perhaps a hacker’s haven.

“Hacker Evolution is the first step from a series of innovative and unique games that we are designing and bringing to the iPhone and iPod devices.” said Robert Muresan, Founder and CEO of Exosyphen Studios.

Hacker Evolution is available at the Apple App Store for only $0.99.

Instead of making everything in their power to transform the Storm into the smartphone it should be without all those OS bugs, RIM’s Co-CEO Jim Balsillie went ahead and told everyone that smartphones are buggy which indirectly means that everyone should deal with that. Not to mention the fact that RIM has received a major, presidential image boost which should help them sell Berries to people who didn’t know what a RIM was yet. We’re assuming that people who don’t know what that RIM name means in the cell phone business do exist, right?

It looks like smartphone makers are under pressure to deliver those smartphones and hence, the bugs in the OS. And we, as customers, should simply accept them and wait for the first firmware available to correct all the problems? We’d rather wait longer for a smartphone to be released right people? After all we are paying for a device which we think will offer us everything the carrier and the manufacturer said in those fancy press releases or commercials.

Oh, and guys, we don’t mean just the Storm here! The competition isn’t doing that great either and we still have firmware issues and other problems with various new smartphones out there.

One of the favorite topics for various blogs and publications has been for the past few months the health of Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs. We’ve heard lots of rumors but Jobs has always assured everyone that he was fine. Yesterday he has sent an email (see below) to all Apple employees telling them that he will take a prolonged leave of absence from Apple due to complex health related problems. Tim Cook will replace him until the end of June but he will still be the CEO. Will this affect Apple’s creativity in 2009? Well hopefully he will fully recover by June and get back to what he does best!

Here’s the email I was telling you about:

    Team,

I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.

In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple’s day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan.
I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.

    Steve

  • Remember when good old Steve Ballmer said the iPhone wasn’t going to make it? Well it looks like Sprint’s CEO, Dan Hesse decided he had to talk publicly against Google’s Android. He told the National Press Club in Washington that Android as it is right now isn’t good enough to put the Sprint brand on it.

But Android in the current form is good enough to sell in over 1.5 million units? What do you answer to that Mr. Hesse? What if Google made Sprint ungoogleable for a while in response to such accusations?
