Sony unveiled two new Vaio laptops in the NS and CS series, both equipped with Blu-ray Disc technology. Pushing HD entertainment to the mid-range laptops, the NS notebook features the BD-ROM drive as an optional accessory but comes with DVD/CD read-write functions.

The VAIO NS is equipped with a 15.4 inch widescreen display and XBRITE-ECO LCD technology. An integrated AV mode with dedicated menu lets you conveniently access up to nine programs from a single location. Under the hood is an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Available in nightfall blue, silk white and granite silver, the VAIO NS will start at US $650 for the non-Blu-ray Disc model and the one with it will start at around $1,000.

    Acer Aspire 5930 Centrino 2 Laptop

    Another multimedia notebook released by Acer based on on Intel Centrino 2 mobile platform is the Acer Aspire 5930. It’s basically the same with the 4930, with Intel’s latest processor technology and WiMax functionality.

    The difference for this gemstone-designed notebook is the big multimedia experience with its 15.4-inch wide aspect screen and optional Blu-ray drive. NVIDIA GeForce graphics and support for NVIDIA PureVideo HD Technology offer high-resolution gaming and stellar picture quality.

    As with the Acer 4930, pricing and availability is not yet available.

  • Acer Aspire 4930 Centrino 2 Laptop

    Acer has been busy with the release of several multimedia notebook based on Intel Centrino 2 mobile platform. One of the notebooks launched earlier was the  Acer Aspire 4930. Along with its brothers and sisters, the 4930 is equipped with Intel’s latest processor technology and WiMax functionality and geared towards multimedia and entertainment with its 14.1-inch CrystalBrite panel.

    Other notable features, aside from the aforementioned 14.1-inch CrystalBrite panel, is its NVIDIA GeForce graphics and second-generation Dolby Home Theater and an HDMI interface which provides high-quality sights and sounds.
    No word yet on its pricing and availability, but stay tuned, we may have some info on that later on.

  • Cizmo from Germany is going to challenge us with a new laptop release. That’s nothing special. We’ve seen lots of gaming machines from Acer, Dell, HP, Alienware and more. But the Cizmo CX1730M will be special. It will be one of the first laptops to pack an Intel Centrino 2 Montevina processor. The Extreme X9100 processor will be the first Penryn class processor for laptops to surpass 3.0GHz.

    Intel’s been on a roll since early March and has officially announced the Atom, the Centrino Atom, and Centrino 2. The Intel Atom processor is specifically designed for small, low-powered devices. Despite it measuring less than 25 mm², it still retains the instruction set compatibility of the Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The Intel Atom chip were previously codenamed Diamondville and Silverthorne.

    Next is the Intel Centrino Atom processor technology, which is being touted as Intel’s best technology for mobile Internet devices. The Intel Centrino Atom processor technology includes the following: the Intel Atom processor, a wireless radio, and a a low-power companion chip with integrated graphics. It was formerly known as Menlow.

    Lastly, Intel has just announced the Centrino 2 mobile technology, formerly known as the Intel Montevina. The Centrino 2 platform is designed for portable computers — Centrino 2 for more common consumer notebooks, and Centrino 2 vPro which is made for business-centric portables. The Centrino 2 brand will also be consisted of low-power processors with TDPs as low as 5W. An improvement in graphics will also be observed due to the usage of GM45 chipset. The Intel Centrino 2 technology, when used, could reportedly produce the longest battery life for notebooks.
