Asus Has New Celeron Eee Box B203

Asus has a new Eee Box for you to play with. It’s the Eee Box B203 which will sport a new Intel Celeron processor, the C220. Besides the processor we have Windows XP Home, 2GB RAM and about 160GB of storage space. Nothing new besides the C220 right? The price should go down about 30 Euro, but we’re going to confirm that later.

Computers No Longer Banned in Cuba

cuba pc.jpg

I have been using a computer for more than15 years already. Imagine if I was born in Cuba… Who knows if I would have been able to even dream about purchasing a personal computer. PCs have been banned by the Cuban government for years now. The only available ones were on the black market, if you had the money for it. I don’t even want to imagine what you would have had to do to get internet… Dial-up of course!

But fellow Cubans, I heard you were given excellent news. Every Cuban that affords it can legally buy a personal computer: Celeron processors, 512MB of RAM, Windows XP, and a CRT display. The price? $780. Huge, I know, given the average salary is somewhere around $20.

These computers are only available at one store for now. As for Internet access, that hasn’t been approved yet for the general public. Only state journalists or trusted officials, whatever that is, will go online. We’ll let you know what the future brings. Did any Cuban read these lines? Let us know!

Toshiba dynabook Satellite T31 Notebook PC

Toshiba unveiled the new dynabook Satellite T31 notebook PC featuring a 15.4 inch display. The Satellite T31 comes in two models: one is powered by Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 2GHz processor and GM965 Express chipset with on-board video, while the other features a Celeron 540 (1.8GHz) GL960 Express chipset configuration. The laptop comes bundled with Windows Vista Business, but you can choose to use Windows XP if you want.

The display, at 1280×800 pixel resolution, is a widescreen LCD. The RAM leaves a lot to be desired for, at just 512MB, as is the 80 gig hard drive. But then again, this appears to be the entry-level model. For optical media, you get CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. Rounding up the feature list are 4 USB 2.0 ports, an SD/MMC/xD/MS PRO memory card reader slot, S-Video output and IEEE 1394. The Li-ion battery offers a life of 1.3 hours (for the Core 2 Duo model) or 0.9 hours (for the Celeron model).

    Measuring 362mm x 267.8mm x 33.5mm, the Toshiba Satellite dynabook T31 weighs in at 2.8 kg.

    Prices:

  • T31 200E/5W with Core 2 Duo: ¥206,850 (US $1,853)
  • T31 186C/5W with Celeron: ¥175,350 (US $1,571) (more…)

  • Gateway 3018GZ Notebook PC

Gateway announced what is being touted as its most diverse line of notebook PCs. The line-up includes the new Gateway 3018GZ, a widescreen notebook that is available in the sub-$1000 range. The 3018GZ is just 1.2 inches think and weighs in at 5.25 pounds.

Even though it is in an ultra-portable form factor, the Gateway 3018GZ boasts a full-size keyboard making it comfortable to use (and not having to relearn a few keys - believe me, I know how much of a problem that can be!). As usual, it comes with on-board 802.11 g wireless support and a 10/100 Ethernet connectivity option. Targeted primarily at students, the notebook is powered by an Intel Celeron-M processor.

There’s also a combo CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive plus integrated 4-in-1 digital media reader that reads MMC, SD, Memory Stick and MS Pro. The Gateway 3018GZ carries a price tag of US $999.99.
