A new Canadian carrier is getting ready to launch the iPhone 3G and 3GS. Virgin Mobile Canada announced that Apple’s smartphones are on their way and consumers will be able to get them in the following months. The carrier’s position is official and the short press release that you can find at the read link below shows that Virgin Mobile Canada is going to undoubtedly sell the iPhones in the near future. What the company fails to mention are prices and actual arrival dates so we’ll be waiting for a longer press release from Virgin Mobile Canada in the following months.

What do you know, Canadians, the Droid is ready to come your way soon. The phone will be known as the Milestone which seems to be the name Motorola has decided to stick with when it comes to the rest of the world. The Milestone has already been spotted in Germany and Brazil so it’s safe to say that only Verizon will sell it as the Droid in the USA.

Telus is said to bring the Milestone to Canadian customers early next year but there are no dates available at this point. There are no price tags either yet so we will all have to wait for the official press release before we get excited.

  • AT&T has just announced their intentions to launch a whole slew of new features on November 8th. The first is an all new voicemail-to-text service which will, of course, change your voicemails into text messages making it easier for you to catch that number or name.

Second of all AT&T is planning to launch their Nation with Canada plans which will allow you customers to make calls between Canada and the US with no long distance charges.

And last but not least they will be launching 3 new channels for their Mobile TV service which we have little to no details about. Luckily, they will be dropping the base cost of the service from $15 to $9.99 and the unlimited service from $30 to $24.99.

The rates offered by VoxOx is 15% lower than what Skype is offering to its customers and for the people who avail of this special plan will enjoy an ongoing subscription at a highly discounted rate. Domestic and worldwide plan options are also available and should be the solution for people who are heavy mobile phone users (voice and text).

    Motorola Droid Shows GSM Features

The Droid might be a Verizon Wireless exclusive phone in the USA but that doesn’t mean that Motorola shouldn’t sell in other markets too. After all the Droid is probably going to be one of the best Android phones around and I’m pretty sure that Motorola will want to cash in on all that hotness.

The FCC has revealed exactly such a version of the Droid that could be used all around the GSM world. What’s more interesting is that the GSM Droid has support for AT&T’s WCDMA 850 and 1900MHz bands which also happen to be used by carriers in Canada. Not that Verizon will share the Droid with AT&T any time soon! But Rogers, Bell and Telus will probably want to launch the phone in the following months or, dare we say, in the following weeks?

Will you buy the Droid next week from Verizon or are you waiting for a GSM version of it?

    Future WIND Smartphones Get Leaked

In case you haven’t heard about WIND then you should know it’s a new carrier getting ready for the Canadian market. We don’t have that many details about it at this point but it looks like WIND has big plans for the future. WIND will launch its 3G network and here are some of the phones it will sell soon: BlackBerry Bold 2 9700, HTC Snap, Huawei U8220 and a QWERTY slider phone from Samsung.

We did tell you a little while ago that both Bell and Telus are getting ready to launch the iPhone 3GS in Canada. Those of you that refused to get an iPhone from Rogers can choose one now from Bell or Telus.

And Bell decided to make things even more obvious by launching an iPhone 3GS-dedicated webpage. You can sign up to get more details about the iPhone 3GS launch by following the link below. In other words, Bell hasn’t specified any prices or release dates but it simply confirmed the fact that the iPhone 3GS is coming to its brand new HSPA network.

  • Bell has the hottest network right now in Canada, or that’s the general impression for now. The carrier has deployed their HSPA network and now it will be looking for more and more HSPA customers. One of the measures taken to increase its popularity is the introduction of a very special promotion: Bell will offer unlock codes for every new HSPA phone purchased with a new contract. You won’t be able to quit your contract and you will be required to pay a fee for this promotional offer but it’s still good to know that a carrier is willing to unlock a handset so soon after activation . What do you say? Did I just convince you to buy a new phone from Bell?

Sony has a new laptop series ready to be launched, the Vaio X. The Vaio should be made official sometime tomorrow so in the mean time we can take a sneak peak at the “world’s lightest netbook.” The Vaio X comes with a carbon-fiber chassis and weighs a total of just 1.6 pounds. It’s also just half an inch thin, but that pretty clear from the picture here. Other features include a 11.1-inch LED backlit display that will offer you a 16:9 aspect ratio, a multitouch touchpad, an SSD drive, Windows 7 and a choice of battery between the standard battery that’s going to get you a 3.5 hours of battery life while the super extended battery can offer you up to 14 hours of life. The X Series will be available in Canada in November and it will cost $1,499 while other markets should also get the laptop soon.

That’s right folks, what you’re currently reading is not a mistake of some sort. Bell and Telus will get the iPhone this November since the official Apple partner in Canada will lose its iPhone exclusivity deal next month.

Bell certainly has even more reasons to celebrate as the carrier has deployed its new HSPA network in time for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The iPhone deal comes just in the nick of time although none of the parties involved will admit everything so far. We have no pricing details so far but I bet both Bell and Telus are really eager to announce their subscribers that the iPhone will be available in their stores soon. What about your Rogers? Don’t you have any denial to do regarding the loss of iPhone exclusivity?

What you see above is Rogers‘ recently unveiled Rocket Hub 3G modem marketed for use in the home. In other words, this is the perfect solution for Canadian’s living in the boonies who can’t find an ISP but still get a cellphone reception.

The Rocket Hub features 7.2Mbps HSPA in addition to supporting WiFi and ethernet out. Rogers will also give you the ability to make voice calls over UMTS, a nice touch.

This device will go on sale sometime later this month for a currently unknown price with plans starting right around $35 Canadian.

Making its appearance first in February, the LG GB250 has now found its way on to the Canadian cellular network.  The clamshell may not be your ideal device if you are on the prowl for high-end features, but it does make for an affordable solution if it’s a handset for your kid.  The GB250 features a 2-inch 176×220-pixel internal display, a 1.3 megapixel camera with video capture ability, an mp3 player, 4GB microSD expansion, FM radio, and Bluetooth, all weighing in at 84 grams in a body that measures 4.9×9.8×1.7 cm.  Available now on Fido for $35 with a 2-year contract or $175 if you want it without constraints or on a prepaid plan.

  • If you can’t wait to get your Zune HD but you’re not going to be in the USA next week than you can already forget about it. The PMP won’t be available anywhere outside the States for now. Not even Canada.

Here’s what Microsoft had to say about the Zune HD sales:

For the time being the Zune HD device will remain US only. Right now we are focused on deploying an exciting service in the form of Zune Video to 18 markets. We are looking at potential future hardware experiences for these markets, but do not have anything to announce right now.

So what do you think, did this strategy manage to scare Apple? Considering that Apple has sold over 225 million iPods already and the number is going to grow in the near future maybe Microsoft should revise its sales policy and expand to other foreign markets too.

What you see above is a new Palm Pre ad released by Canadian carrier Bell. Featured in the video is ‘Bradley’ who goes around meeting various Canadian athletes but not before taking a couple of shots at America.

First and foremost one of the first things Bradley says is, “Unlike our neighbors to the south, Canadians are an active people.” Throughout the ad there are a few more subtle insults, but nothing too gruesome.

Anyways, the ad does a great job showing consumers that the Palm Pre is your go anywhere, do anything device, from a camera and games to a calender and email. But wait, pretty much every handset phone out there can do those 4 things now, right?

Only joking, Palm, don’t hurt me.

Canadians can now purchase their own Pre phone from Bell but you already knew that. What you didn’t know is that UK customers will apparently be able to get their own GSM Palm Pre by the end of October. The Pre will be available exclusively from O2 in the UK and the carrier has been keeping things quiet so far. But it looks like O2 managers have been given a release date which sounds exactly like Friday, October 30.

  • I’m not sure who voted it the “best mobile phone” but the Palm Pre is now officially available in Canada and Bell is the carrier that’s going to satisfy your Pre needs. The handset will cost just $199.95 with a 3-year new contract or $599.95 without a new contract. You will still be required to get at least a 500MB data plan in case you decide to pay the full price so now that you everything there is to know about a Pre from Bell you can go ahead and order yours today.
