  • It’s almost September but Apple is still keeping secret its upcoming iPod special event. Maybe Apple should make up its mind already as I am sure it does want lots of attention from the media. In case you want to attend this regular fall event, then you should start making travelling plans around September 9 as it looks like that’s the date we are looking for. And if all the rumors are to be believed, Apple’s keynote will concentrate on the next-gen iPods, the ones coming with a camera on top of everything and on the next iTunes version and its social networking features. The future tablet won’t be launched at this iPod only event but until everything becomes official we can still hope!

Platinum Protection joins the home security bandwagon as it releases its own versions of remote home security to enable people to monitor their homes via a live video stream to their phone. We have seen a lot of apps and interfaces launched from recent weeks and this time we see another made for the two leading smartphones in demand in the market today.

The home security system app provides live camera feeds from your home and also allows you to remotely adjust pan-tilt cameras and review stored video footages. In the event of a break in, the system will automatically record a video clip of the burglar and immediately send the home owner a notification by text that the alarm has gone off.

Once a homeowner receives the notification, they can open the app on their phone and view the saved video clip seconds after the break in occurred.

The Platinum Protection Security System is free for download at their site.

RF Micro Devices just pushed Samsung further ahead as it has announced the its support for ramping up the Samsung’s Tocco Ultra Edition and GT-S8000 “Jet” 3G handsets with 3G cellular front-ends. These two new power amplifiers are expected to provide better power consumption and battery life as well as rich multimedia experience for smartphone users.

Both Samsung handsets, the Samsung’s Tocco Ultra Edition handset and the Samsung’s GT-S8000 Jet handset need all the power support they can get owing to their vast array of features. Among the highlighted features include an AMOLED display, GPS, media players, and built-in cameras.

With all those features stored in these Samsung handets, you know that battery consumption will be at an all-time high. However, that was before RFMD came out with their own resolution through these amplifiers, the RF3267 and RF6266.

RFMD’s RF6266 WCDMA/HSDPA PA operates in either Band 5 (824 to 849 MHz) or Band 8 (880 to 915 MHz) and delivers a similar feature set to the RF3267, with the same ultra-compact 3×3x0.9 mm package.

  • Here is good news for phone owners who want better images. NEC has reportedly shipped samples of their CE 131 image processing LSI chips which can be used in camera phones. The said chip allows up to 8MP or 1.6 times better resolution than the standard phone cameras today.

The LSI sits between the CMOS sensor and application processor in a mobile phone. It displays signals from the sensor on the device’s screen and makes the signals printable.

The CE131 has an interface for a 512Mbit external memory, allowing for the processing of much larger image data than the existing model.

Each LSI sample chip is said to be worth $33. Actual production will commence in October.

  • Technology Beats Thieves Again

It’s not that thieves are getting more stupid than some of them already were in the past. By stupid I mean not making an effort to earn a decent legal living of course. It’s just that technology advanced so much that it actually helps fight crime. A few weeks ago an Apple employee managed to login her MacBook remotely and identify robbers which lead to their arrest.

Here’s how technology beats thieves again: a Long Island couple in vacation in Florida, forgot their camera after having dinner in a local restaurant. Of course the two employees which found it decided to keep it. What they didn’t know was that the camera had an Eye-Fi card which conveniently connected to the first available wireless network and started transmitting pictures. The uploaded photos included the ones thieves had taken with each other.

Lucky for them the thieves were not reported to the police after returning the camera. I guess if you plan to steal something, then better get to work and check out what’s around! Technologically speaking of course.
