All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

A little while ago we told you that Best Buy is the exclusive retailer of Nokia’s first netbook, the Booklet 3G. At that time no carrier was willing to subsidized the netbook, but all that has changed by now. AT&T is the first carrier that’s going to sell the Nokia Booklet 3G in the USA. The netbook will be available for $299 with a 2-year contract. That’s the cheapest version available with a $60 per month data plan. Other prices will also be available with cheaper monthly data plans and AT&T will also sell the device without a contract for $599. The netbook will be available in just over a week, on October 22, as soon as Windows 7 will be launched. Will you get it?

  • We’re not surprised to see stuff leaked from Best Buy and this time we have some details about the company’s upcoming holiday releases. And there are quite a few phones there ready to capture your imagination, but also a netbook we’ve seen in the news lately:

    • Nokia Booklet netbook - October 25th launch (AT&T activation)
    • Sprint HTC Hero - October 11th
    • Sprint Palm Pixi - launch date TBD
    • Verizon Storm II - launch date TBD
    • Verizon Android device - launch date TBD
    • T-Mobile CLIQ - launch date TBD

We’re particularly interested in that “new technology which doesn’t exist today” mentioned in the leaked documents and we definitely want to hear more about those BlackBerry and multiple Android phones which will also be available from Best Buy soon. We’ll be back with official prices and release dates so in the mean time you have plenty of time to decide what phone to ask from Santa this Christmas!

Nothing is exactly official right now but it looks like Best Buy appears to be the exclusive reseller of Nokia’s first netbook, the Booklet 3G. The good news is that Best Buy might end up selling it for just $599.99 which is about $200 cheaper than European prices. It’s still more expensive than other netbooks but then again the competition doesn’t have features like Windows 7, SIM-card support or 12-hour batteries does it?

The bad news is that no U.S. carrier seems interested in subsidizing it. You’ll only be able to get it from Nokia USA or Best Buy stores for now. We’ll be back when the Booklet 3G becomes officially available to confirm all these rumors!

  • Nokia Booklet 3G in video

If Nokia’s entrant into the netbook world wasn’t impressive enough for you in pictures, the company now has a promo clip to give you an idea of what it’s made of.  Nokia Conversations has uploaded a video highlighting the Booklet 3G’s abilities, but what’s with the hideous hands? Watch the video to find out what I am talking about.

We’ve seen the N900 available for pre-order in Italy and Germany first and now Nokia has put the Booklet 3G up for pre-order in Italy. The netbook costs 699 Euros with tax included which is about $1,021. That’s way too much for a netbook. We can expect to see the machine in the US soon but we can also expect it to cost way too much too. Why pay a higher price when you can purchase a way cheaper netbook that has similar specs inside? What do you say? What netbook have you purchased lately?

    • Windows 7
    • WiFi
    • Hot-swappable SIM cards
    • 3G connectivity
    • 1GB of DDR2 RAM
    • 120GB hard drive
    • Ovi Suite
    • 10.1-inch LCD
