Well ladies and gentlemen we have a great piece of news for you. A WiFi city isn’t something out of the ordinary. That’s where we’re headed. A Beijing WiFi city isn’t out of the ordinary either. The Chinese capital is set to become the biggest city to have WiFi coverage by 2011.
Will cell phone users be able to take advantage of all those WiFi spots? It would seem like they won’t. It’s only a logical conclusion. Remember that special iPhone for China? The one that will arrive without WiFi and 3G support? Well what if future Chinese smartphones are all going to arrive without a WiFi antenna? Will Beijing residents carry around WiFi-less smartphones despite the fact they would actually be surrounded by WiFi hotspots in 2011?

Samsung really seems to be getting into the sportive spirit this Olympics. First it was the gold-plated D780, which became the official cell phone for the Russian Olympics team, then the m530 for Canada, and now a Special Edition of its new SPH-W5950IL in its Soul line to commemorate the 2008 Beijing Olympics. What else would you expect from the official telecom partner for the event, huh? Samsung has limited itself to 20080 handsets with the Olympics logo emblazoned on its backside and Koreans (as always!) will get a shot at it with no information on its availability elsewhere. The slider boasts of a 5-megapixel camera, 7.2Mbps HSDPA support, Bluetooth 2.0, and a keypad with navigation indicators. Going now for 699,600 KRW (about $688).
