Deposit checks with iPhone photos

Here’s a new and interesting concept — A bank by the name of USAA has recently released an updated version of their iPhone app that will actually let users deposit checks without ever leaving their home.

How it works is you take a picture of the front and the back of your check, using the iPhone’s built-in camera, upload the pictures and that’s it, you’re done. A minor catch is that you have to be eligble for credit or hold insurance through USAA for this to work but otherwise, the system seems flawless.

Let’s hope other banks who have iPhone apps, like Bank of America, begin utilizing a similar system.

Cellular South in cooperation with Regions Bank have announced a new tool related to mobile banking services. The wireless carrier claims it will provide security & flexibility to everyone that wants to have access their bank account details by using a mobile phone.

On top of Regions Bank, the service will also work with other banks such as Trust One, BancorpSouth, Wachovia, and others. Users can perform the following tasks while using the mobile banking service on a BlackBerry Curve, Pearl, or World Edition:

- view account balance
- view history
- transfer funds
- pay bills

David Rupp of Regions bank, comments:

Managing bank accounts from a wireless device fits the busy lifestyle that many of us share and it will make banking more convenient for Regions and Cellular South customers.
