Acer is finally ready to send the first Android netbook your way. The Aspire One D250 is available for Pre-order on Amazon and it will cost you $349 to get it. The netbook will offer you both Android and Windows XP under the hood so you’ll be able to choose which OS is better suited for your needs. Don’t hurry up to get it just yet as Acer is bound to unveil another version of the D250 capable of running Windows 7. The Windows 7 version will be announced at some point next week in Japan after Microsoft will finally launch its latest OS. It would be very interesting to see a netbook coming with both Windows 7 and Android on board but that might not happen anytime soon.

The Acer Aspire One 571 netbook advances the resolution of its 10.1-inch display to 1280 x 720, plus an optical disc drive. However, unlike the ASUS Eee PC 1004DN, this is no DVD burner but a Vmedia drive which uses 32mm Blu-ray discs, loaded inside small plastic cartridges, each with 1GB capacity.
Initially only ROM discs full of media content will be available, with 576p-quality video content, but the company anticipates recordable versions in the future. To handle that media, the Aspire One 571 couples its Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz processor with the Quartics Q1721 Multimedia Coprocessor. Look for Bluetooth and WiFi in there too. There’s no word on pricing or whether consumers will endorse Vmedia.

Ready for a slimmer Acer Aspire One? It looks like Acer is going to launch one so let’s take a look at it. It’s supposed to be a 10-inch netbook only 0.95-inch thick. The rumored specs are a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270, 945GME graphics, 1024 x 600 resolution, 1GB of RAM, 802.11 a/b/g, integrated UMTS and a 3-cell battery.
Unfortunatelly it’s just an unconfirmed rumor so far. We need Acer to give its official blessing to all these specs and pictures.

The beginning of the new year finds us talking about new netbooks. One of them is the 10.1 inch version of the Aspire One netbook. Acer might launch it as soon as this February. Besides the bigger screen and keyboard we should expect a card reader to replace the storage expansion slot, a single memory slot capable of taking up to 2GB instead of the two 1GB slots, Bluetooth and 3G support. Will we see it at CES? How much will it cost?

Starting with December 14, this netbook will be on sale at Radioshack for a bargain price. The Acer Aspire One with integrated 3G wireless connectivity will be available for just $99.99 from Radioshack. Forgot what the Aspire One is all about? It is a 2.44 pound netbook featuring 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, a built-in memory card reader and it runs on Windows XP. The 3G broadband supports those portable connectivity needs of students, travellers and mobile professionals.
Peter Whitsett, RadioShack’s executive vice president said:
Many people internationally are already enjoying the portability, on-the-go connectivity and affordability of this emerging new technology. We are proud to introduce this concept in the U.S. by offering a netbook with integrated 3G functionality in addition to full Wi-Fi capability.
And here’s the catch! You will have to sign a 2 year AT&T Data Connect mobile broadband service agreement if you want it for only $99.99.

It appears that not only Asus has in mind a better battery for their Eee lines. MSI has launched a 6 cell battery for their Wind netbook and now it’s Acer’s turn to release their version of a 6 cell battery for the Aspire One.
The battery has been already spotted. Apparently it costs “just” $120 to get yourself a new battery. If you’re considering buying an Aspire One better wait it out. Hopefully future versions will come already bundled with the new battery for a cheaper price.
