The E-ten Glofiish X650 phone has just been approved by the FCC. A Pocket PC phone featuring a 500MHz Samsung SC3 processor, the X650 is equipped with a 2 MPx camera and on-board FM transmitter - quite useful when you want to play the audio on your car stereo, for example. At 139 grams, it’s not the lightest phone around but is pretty thin at 14.7mm.
The Glofiish features a VGA resolution screen. No word on the pricing yet.

When was the last time a scanner was on your Christmas list? Approved on the FCC’s list a couple of days ago was this scanner from RadioShack. Identified as Scanning Receiver AMWUB351, the confidentiality request has the following note: “Because public disclosure of the material might be harmful if information used in this application were used to modify the unit to illegally scan or tune Cellular Radio Service channels, this letter is to remind all persons involved that scanning receivers are automatically protected under 47CFR Section 0.457(d)(1)(ii) that the following be should withheld.” It, of course, refers to the circuit description and schematic diagrams.
The scanner requires a mounting area that measures 50mm x 180mm x 135mm. It is powered either by a wall outlet or your vehicle’s cigarette lighter. The antenna length can be modified according to the frequencies you want to monitor. You can listen in onto the CB band, police (fire/emergency), aircraft and HAM band services.
Nifty little addition to your car, if you’re tired of your iPod or Sirius satellite radio. No word on the pricing or availability yet.

It’s nearing the end of 2007, but the folks over at the FCC do not take a lot of rest. Approved among the day’s lot were two Samsung phones: the Samsung 820SC Mobile Phone and the Samsung M130L Phone. The 820SC phone is described as a GSM/EDGE phone with Bluetooth capabilities, while the M130L seems to be an entry-level phone with only GSM/GPRS support. The M130L works in the 850/1900MHz GSM bands, and also features Bluetooth.
As usual, stringent confidentiality restrictions are in place, so there are no photos to gawk at. Check back with us later for more info on pricing and availability.

A new LG mobile phone has been spotted in the FCC. The LG KE990d got approved by the FCC. From the documents available, it is a GSM phone supporting EDGE networks. As is the norm, it also supports Bluetooth, and is certified as a class 2 device (meaning the range is limited to 10 meters or about 30 feet). Confidentiality requests are in place (if you’ve seen the recent Samsung and LG announcements, you know they don’t let a lot slip into the wild), which means you don’t get to drool over the phone’s photos. Too bad.
No word on the pricing or availability. Watch out for the LG KE990d.

Harman/Becker’s BE 7977 portable navigation device recently got approved by the FCC. Designed by Becker, the device has been manufactured by Mitac. As usual, the BE 7977 features a touch screen. Certain models also have integrated Bluetooth capabilities. It is equipped with an SD/MMC card reader.
It also features an on-board music player. For higher GPS sensitivity, an external antenna connector (optional) is provided. Something that’s definitely required in cities with tons of high-rise buildings. (I’d have to tell you about my experience driving in downtown New York City, but I’ll save that for the Garmin nuvi 200 review). A backlight ensures you can see the screen in low light conditions.
No word on the pricing yet, but the Harman/Becker BE 7977 should hit the markets soon.

Remember the Nokia 500 GPS that we saw a few days ago? The portable navigation device from Nokia has cleared the FCC’s testing requirements, so it should be on its way into the world markets soon. I have been waiting to buy a GPS device for my personal use, I just might wait a tad longer to see how this one is. Of course, the GPS is on target for its Q4 2007 release in Europe, but there seems to be no indication of a US release, unfortunately.
With its “definitive agreement” to acquire Navteq, could Nokia be the next juggernaut in the field of personal navigation? We’ll wait and watch. The Nokia 500 supports SDHC (SD High Capacity) memory cards up to 16GB, which is nice. It can read cards formatted with FAT or FAT32 filesystems. Obviously, the GPS comes with a touch-screen (4.3 inch) interface. The video player software available on it can handle 3GP, MPEG-4 and WMV video formats.
Priced at €300 (excluding tax), the Nokia 500 Auto Navigation is on its way. Soon.

Belin’s TuneCast Universal is your solution for transmitting audio from your iPod or other portable MP3 player onto your car’s stereo. It can conveniently be mounted on any smooth surface using the multi-mount socket and mount with adhesive backing. It comes with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack that you plug your iPod or MP3 player to, and works off your car’s battery.
Tune the car’s radio to a frequency with a weak broadcast signal, and press the up/down buttons on the TuneCast to select the transmission frequency chosen on your car. The TuneCast can remember two frequencies for easy recall later. It features a frequency display that also shows the memory slot location of that frequency. There are two buttons to switch between memory 1 and memory 2.
The Belkin TuneCast Universal has gained the FCC approval, and should be on its way to the market soon.

Remember the HP iPAQ 600 series smartphone that we saw on The Whack a while ago? Well, the device has apparently been approved by the FCC although the juicy stuff - namely the photos and user manual - is still well hidden thanks to the confidentiality request put in by Hewlett-Packard.
The device, identified as B94HHI14CN, cannot be used for simultaneous operations of the WLAN and WWAN HSDPA transmitters by software control, and will prohibit co-transmission as well. If you are connected to your wireless LAN and receive a phone call, the software will shut down WLAN transmission immediately. Hopefully you were not downloading your favorite songs just then.
Expect confirmation from HP soon. Hopefully we will also get an idea of the pricing.

The Motorola W377 mobile phone gained FCC approval recently. Available in a flip design, the W377 offers USB connectivity (both data sync and charging the phone is possible). There’s also a dedicated web browser key on the keypad. Goodies on the phone include a camera (with timer, even) and Bluetooth support.
There’s also an FM radio receiver on the W377. It supports MMS and SMS messaging. Productivity tools include Calendar, Calculator, Stopwatch and others. Not the brightest bulb in the box, but hey, it was approved, so that should count for something right? Yeah, if you are looking for an entry-level phone.

Huawei’e E800 portable phone cleared the FCC tests and should be available in the market soon. The phone features a 2.2" QVGA TFT LCD at 240×320 pixels resolution and 65k colors. Measuring 135mm x 45mm x 18mm, it weighs 120 grams - a bit on the heavy side. It comes with 32MB flash memory and 64MB SDRAM, and offers a mini-USB socket for charging. Supported protocols include SIP v2 and SDP. The Nokia 5310 XpressMusic (for some reason listed as the Nokia 5310b XpressMusic in the manuals) mobile phone got approval from the FCC. Featuring an aluminium finish, it is 9.9mm thin and weighs in at just 71 grams.
Nokia claims an 18-hour music playback time (of course, this doesn’t include talk time). The phone can take in microSD memory cards up to 4GB in capacity - good for up to 3000 songs. There’s a 2 megapixel camera on board. The Nokia 5310 XpressMusic also features a 2 inch QVGA screen that offers 16 million colors.
Thanks to the FCC approval, the phone is on target for its Q4 2007 release. Priced at €225 before taxes and subsidies, there’s no info on when it will hit the US markets.
