The Walt Disney Corporation has plans to release an application for the iPhone, with the intention to reward users that browse their website by offering some free bonus.

The application works in an unusual way, basically users have to take photos with their cellphones of movies like “Wall-E” and “G-Force” that are displayed on the Disney.com website. If the user shoots the right frame, it will have access to exclusive content like videos and wallpapers for the cellphone. In the future Disney wants to incorporate movie posters as bonus, to get more interest in their upcoming movies.

This Walt Disney application for the iPhone is free and is already available for download.

We thought that Barnes and Noble’s eBook reader, the Nook, will hit Amazon hard but we were in for quite a surprise. Amazon intends to make sure that both PC and Mac users will be able to buy all the eBooks they want without actually having to order the Kindle. Or the Nook! We heard about PC support for Amazon eBooks earlier this week and now we hear that Amazon has big plans for Mac owners. A Kindle App for Mac is currently being developed but we have no idea when Amazon will release it.

Just yesterday we mentioned the plans of CNN to launch an iPhone application and charge $1,99 for it, and today is the perfect timing for Guardian to announce similar plans: iPhone application that costs money. Unlike what happens with Guardian competitors, such as the Telegraph or Independent, which have an iPhone app that can be downloaded for free, Guardian wants more cash.

This application is still on the works, currently in beta mode, but I’m sure it will be launched before 2010, otherwise they’d be losing quite some money. Taking in consideration that the iPhone App store recently passed the 2 billions download mark, I’m sure they will reach the 3 billions downloads pretty soon. With all these newspapers and freelance developers working hard on application for the Apple phone, it is only a matter of time to pass the record.

So far the Barnes & Noble iPhone application has been downloaded 1 million times. How cool is that? One of the reasons for this “record” is probably the inclusion of free Wi-Fi at B&N stores, which was made about 1 month ago.

Anyhow, if you want to know why the Barnes & Noble iPhone application is so popular, just read the following list of features:

- B&N recommendations;
- new release lists updated regularly;
- being able to watch interviews with the authors of the books;
- being able to check events at the nearest B&N store;
- being able to easily find the closest B&N store via directions and the use of maps;
- and the best feature: shoot a photo of a CD, book, or DVD, and instantly receive information about the product, such as review, customer ratings, and being able to reserve a copy of the product;

Last Friday, more exactly on the 19th of September, Apple decided to open its gates and approve a few hundred applications for their mobile phone aka iPhone. The exact number of apps released is close to 1,400…

In only one day the Apple App Store boomed and I bet many people downloaded and test-drived the new applications. In case you are wondering, more than 300 of those apps are actually games, which means that entertainment is surely a good bet.devices. And also on Friday Apple decided to launch a new App Store Resource Center, which will help developers get their applications ready for approval, easier then before!

If you love Amazon and Android phones then you should be checking out the Amazon App for Android which will bring the Amazon shopping experience straight to your mobile phone.

You can order stuff straight from your phone, track packages and browse the store for placing even more orders. The Amazon Remembers feature is a nice concept which lets you take a photo or even scan a bar code in order to add items on your list. And when you go to Amazon from your computer, you’ll be able to see those new items too.

When you’re ready to buy your favorite items you’ll notice how Amazon’s 1-Click settings will let you complete your purchase with one single click which is pretty convenient but pretty dangerous too. You should watch out for those insane shopping sprees which could wipe out all your savings instantly.

So, like I said before, in case you’re an Amazon frequent shopper and you also own an Android device then you should absolutely look for this application in the Android Market. In case you don’t fulfill the requirements above then you’ll probably not want this Android Amazon application.

  • Netflix has been growing steadily so it’s actually no surprise to see this video-on-demand provider interested in the iPhone and iPod touch. Apple’s gadgets are becoming more and more popular and since they come with multimedia features, why shouldn’t Netflix make its Watch Instantly service to them too?

    There’s no official news yet but we hear Netflix is indeed working on an application for the App Store. Users will be able to Watch Instantly movies from their queue as long as they are in the vicinity of a WiFi network. Needless to say that streaming videos through a 3G network will not be allowed. But will Apple really let iPhone users enjoy Netflix? Or will we see the application banned from the App Store soon?

    Check out the picture here! Would you like it to own such a device? A Japanese developer has created this iPhone-dedicated server rack which will turn up to five of your iPhones and/or iPod touches into a crazy, but very hot storage solution. This product is not meant to go on sale but it’s rather a presentation for the Serversman iPhone app. Let’s pretend for a second that the iPhone Rack would start selling soon. How much would you pay for it?

    And since we already mentioned the Serversman iPhone application we should tell you what it does. The freeware app will turn your iPhone into a personal web server to help you store some of your sensible stuff. You probably figured that out, didn’t you?

  • We’re finally getting some numbers regarding the Palm Pre. And these numbers concern the apps downloaded so far for the Palm Pre. According to Medialets, as of June 17, 666,511 apps have been downloaded. As you can see in the graph above the number has been rising constantly so by know we should see 700,000 Pre application downloads. And I think that number will go only up as more developers will turn in their Pre apps. So far just 30 apps have been downloaded nearly 700,000 times! You do the math developers! Is it worth designing applications for the Pre? More people will get a Pre of their own in the near future so I guess there’s only one answer to that question!

    Do you have a Pre running its first apps? Let us know how that works out for you!

    BlackBerry Messenger Coming Soon?

    Although not official yet the BlackBerry Messenger is going to get an update soon. The PIN-based messaging system will get some important upgrades like: Avatar support, GPS location integration, Proximity sensor, Homescreen support and Set conversation subjects.

    In other words you can now set your own avatar picture just like you would do in other instant messaging apps. Friends will be able to see you on the map and you will also know if you’re close to each other that’s going to be obvious too. All we need to do now is wait for the messenger update to be available!
