All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

It seems that Sony Ericsson is gearing up to have a bit of a keynote of theirselves as the above flyer has recently been posted letting us know that the way we listen to music will change forever on September 21st.

Now, this is a bit of a zealous claim considering Sony Ericsson is continously pumping run-of-the-mill MP3 playing headsets so the same should be expected here. However, we can’t write the handset manufacturer off until the keynote actually rolls around. According to SE, the announcement will have to do with Bluetooth audio quality and ‘free energy’.

Check back around September 21st as we’ll keep you updated.

While we’ve seen and heard about the Nokia N97 mini several times before, Nokia has refraned from officially taking the wraps off the device. Today, however, at Nokia World in Stuttgart, Nokia’s Anssi Vanjok has finally made the phone official.

The phone itself features a 3.2-inch touch screen, a QWERTY keyboard, social networking integration and built-in Lonely Planet guidebooks, among other things.

Price wise we’re looking at 450 (about $640) but Mr. Vanjok is positive it will be free with a contract in several different markets with it’s made available next month.

It’s crazy I know, but instead of actually announcing the next Android phone available, T-Mobile has just confirmed that next week the phone will be announced. Wait, we’ve actually seen that happen with other carriers so why should it bother us now?

A company spokesperson had this to say about the second Android phone coming from T-Mobile:

Next week, T-Mobile will share more details about its next Android-powered phone, the follow-on device to the T-Mobile G1 with Google.

It was about time T-Mobile announced the myTouch 3G (or however they want to call it) since the Pre and the iPhone have already been unleashed from their cages. The spokesman hasn’t actually mentioned the name of the phone or any of its features but according to rumors it has to be the HTC handset we’re expecting. What do you say folks? What do you pick between Android, webOS or iPhone 3.0?

  • I guess that with all the rumors going around about the Tour and especially with all manufacturers announcing hot phones everyday Verizon considered it was about time to officially announce this BlackBerry.

Tomorrow morning Verizon Wireless should tell us when the BlackBerry Tour will arrive and how much it will cost. Will it be available in August as previously said or earlier? We’ll probably have more news for you tomorrow then.

Will the Pre be here next Tuesday? Well that’s what a recent rumor is implying. Apparently Palm and Sprint will be ready to make an important announcement next week in the Wall Street Journal. May 19 might just be the day when the Pre finally arrives. Considering that the box and Sprint manual have just been leaked we might just officially see the Palm Pre in seven days from now. Better secure your place in a line after you break open that piggy bank that holds the cash for the Pre!

    Samsung’s not so smart Magnet

Now just because this phone has a full QWERTY keyboard, don’t expect it to be able to do things like the Propel Pro or iPhone; this phone is strictly marketed towards teens who need a full keyboard for text messaging.

Anyways, what you see above is the Samsung Magnet. Details are scarce but the press release says that it will have a WAP enabled browser, integrated camera, all bundled in a “sleek package”.

Check back in the next few weeks as more information regarding the Samsung Magnet creeps out.

Sony Ericsson has now officially announced the G705, confirming pretty much everything we knew about it until now and even manages to pack a few surprises in its slider form factor. The G705 turns out to be quite internet savvy with support for what is dubbed as “turbo 3G,” a full HTML browser with a nifty zoom-in function not unlike the latest Symbian browser, and a largish 2.4-inch display. Also included is an RSS Reader, which acts as a ticker displaying the latest news from the feeds you have subscribed to when the handset is in standby mode, the option to directly upload videos taken on its 3.2mpx cam to YouTube and a Google shortcut for quick access to information when needed. While we knew about its aGPS with Google Maps and WiFi, features that we didn’t anticipate are the accelerometer for automatic orientation between portrait/landscape modes and an FM radio, sweet surprises indeed. The press release also details a variation called the Sony G705u tailor-made exclusively for Orange that allows users to switch seamlessly between GSM and WiFi networks. Sounds like a wholly nice feature set in an equally attractive package. No price details are revealed at the time of this post, but look for it to land in the US in the first quarter of 2009.

Their last tease still hasn’t materialized, but Nokia is determined to plough on with yet more announcements this year. Come August 18, the Espoo, Finland-based manufacturer will unveil the latest members of the Nseries family, most likely to be the N79 and N85, in a closed online event before the public announcement on August 25th. The ever elusive XpressMedia 5800 or Tube seems not yet ready for the limelight though, and the N96 is still MIA more than a year after it was announced. We already know some tidbits about the handsets in question, like the dual-slider N85’s 5 megapixel camera and Symbian S60 FP2 operating system, and the N79’s 2.4-inch display and its own 5mpx lens. The event is only four days away, so look for us to get you more on it pretty soon!

  • Orange in France Gets Apple iPhone

    iPhone France

It’s about time (and official) - France will be getting the Apple iPhone exclusively through Orange. It is scheduled to go on sale on November 29. As in other parts of the world, Apple will be selling only the 8GB model and it carries a price tag of €399 including VAT. Of course, you will be forced to go into subscription for one of the “dedicated rate plans”.

After having the iPhone for close to four months now, I must say I should have waited for iPhone 2.0. About the only time I use it is when looking up directions on Google Maps. Ever tried looking up a contact? With more than 600 contacts on my iPhone (which I carefully synced to my laptop over Bluetooth - from my Nokia N73), searching for someone whose last name you don’t remember can be quite a pain in the wrong places.
