We’ve covered the Kandle light for the Kindle, and I suppose that we must cover the Octovo Kindle light as well.
Of course, there really isn’t much we can say about a Kindle light, because it’s a light, for crying out loud. What else can I say? “It helps you see in the dark”. The Octovo Kindle light should be available in March. It will cost about $29.99 and comes with its own carrying case.

Amazon has recently bought a company known as Touchco, a company that makes cheap and multitouch displays. The Kindle will probably be changed as a result of this acquisition, and there could be something else on the horizon for the Kindle.
According to Digitimes, the company that supplies the Amazon with Kindle displays are working on touchscreen electrophoretic panels. This could mean color pressure sensitive touchscreen EPDs that will support animation this year, and it could mean that we could be seeing some color, and a number of interesting things to expand the Kindle’s uses. Who, look out, iPad!

When the Kindle was first released, everyone wondered how it was going to change the traditional book market. The traditional publishing market was dealt a blow today with a decision from Amazon about Macmillan publishing.
Amazon apparently has the right to set its book prices on the Kindle e-books, until Macmillan spoke up. A typical current best seller costs $9.99 on e-books, but Macmillan wanted to jack up the price of their newest books to $14.99.
Amazon stopped selling Macmillan books, but recently got them back, saying:
We have expressed our strong disagreement and the seriousness of our disagreement by temporarily ceasing the sale of all Macmillan titles. We want you to know that ultimately, however, we will have to capitulate and accept Macmillan’s terms because Macmillan has a monopoly over their own titles, and we will want to offer them to you even at prices we believe are needlessly high for e-books.
This probably the beginning of a lot of wars between e-books and traditional publishers. I believe Jeff Bezos has stated that the traditional book will go out of style. Is he right?

We’ve seen a ridiculous amount of knocked off devices come out of Asia, but this one takes it to a whole new level. What you see above is a screenshot of infibeam’s company website. Does it look familiar? It should as they basically took Amazon.com’s website layout and did nothing more than change the name.
Another thing to note is their infibeam Pi ebook reader. Not only does it bear a resemblance to the Kindle, minus a keyboard, but it uses the same general layout for the advertisement.
Ridiculous? Yes. Inevitable lawsuit? Oh yeah.

This is the Kandle, which I assume is some play-on word for candle. The Kandle is designed to clip-on the Kindle, or whatever e-book reader you might have.
The Kandle has 2 LEDs that are powered by 2xCR2032 batteries. I’m not certain why e-book readers should need a light. Maybe if they all had color screens we wouldn’t need a clip-on light.
Until that day when all e-book readers are in color, you can pay $24.95 for the Kandle on Amazon.

It would appear that if you want to make some successful mobile device, then you have to have an app store. We all know that it worked on Apple, and BlackBerry has one as well.
Amazon is now trying to get in the App game as they are opening up the Kindle for apps. They are planning on launching a beta version of the app program next month, but it is not known when it will be fully available to everyone.

While American’s have been able to access Amazon’s MP3 store on Android devices, most other regions unfortunately haven’t, especially the UK has been waiting for it for a while. Now it has been revealed that Amazon MP3 store will be available with Android 2.1 in the UK. Actually, it’s already available on any device running 2.1.

Currently, when you go out of the United States with your Kindle DX ebook reader, you won’t be able to connect to the free wireless internet provided by Amazon.com. However, seemingly out of no where, Amazon has updated the product’s listing to announce that the device will feature global wireless connectivity.
So, this means that when you’re on a business trip in whatever country you’ll still be able to download that new novel you’ve been hearing so much about.
Unfortunately, Amazon has proceeded to pull the link you see above but I think it’s safe to say we will be hearing an announcement at some point in the near future.

My first source has quoted Jeff Bezos saying something very odd about how traditional books are on their way out:
But the physical book really has had a 500-year run. It’s probably the most successful technology ever. It’s hard to come up with things that have had a longer run. If Gutenberg were alive today, he would recognize the physical book and know how to operate it immediately. Given how much change there has been everywhere else, what’s remarkable is how stable the book has been for so long. But no technology, not even one as elegant as the book, lasts forever.
By the way, there is speculation that the figures about more e-books being sold on Christmas than actual books, which we reported earlier, might not be entirely accurate. You see, many of Amazon’s ebooks are available for nothing, including classic public domain works. I wonder if Amazon calculated the price of the ebooks sold for that figure, or the number of ebooks sold.
In other words, are numbers being manipulated to prepare us for an ebook age? Let’s just let the natural course of things prepare us for this promised ebook revolution.

Amazon is offering the Erector Spykee Cell for just $70.00, which is less than half the usual price at $199.99.
Not bad, eh? Especially when the Spykee Cell is compatible with the iPod Touch and iPod nano for MP3 features, and can also double as a Bluetooth Wireless Speaker Phone. Man, if I had $70.00 to spare, I would be so all over this deal.

It looks like Amazon got what they wanted for Christmas. According to a recent press release, the Kindle has become “the most gifted item ever on Amazon.com”.
Oh yes, more gifted than any book in the catalog, and it would seem that, for the first time ever, Amazon customers purchased more Kindle books than physical books. This historic event took place on Christmas day, and you had better believe that Amazon is just eating the sugarplums that were dancing in their heads.

In a move that seems contrary to both the companies, Amazon has perfected its Kindle app for the BlackBerry.
Perhaps this is a good thing, as most people want the Kindle’s features on their mobiles, without having to buy a separate e-book reader. You know, there are a lot of e-book readers coming to the market next year. Is it possible that all these new readers will bomb once Kindle dominates the mobile reader market with its software?

If you’re looking to purchase the Nokia N900 but have been a bit uneasy about its $649 price tag you’ll be happy to know that the device has dropped to $479.99 on Amazon.com after a $50 mail-in rebate.
For close to 5 bills you will be getting the Maemo powered Nokia N900 with a 3.5-inch touchscreen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 5MP camera and an unknown release date.
At least it’s unlocked, right?

The Palm Pixi has been launched officially this Sunday and Sprint customers can get it for $99.99 after rebates and with a 2-year new contract. But other retailers, like Amazon, are ready to offer the smartphone for a lot less. Amazon is going to sell the Pixi for just $25 but you will still have to get a new contract from Sprint.
So should you buy the Pixi now? Why not wait a while as I am sure the phone will be available for free on contract real soon. After all there are hotter phones out there worth purchasing with new contracts like the HTC Hero, the Motorola Droid, the BlackBerry Storm2, the HTC Droid Eris or the Samsung Behold II. What phone are you going to purchase these holidays?

We did tell you that the Nuvifone G60, launched by Garmin Asus a lot later than supposed to, was too expensive than it should be. And it looks like Amazon tends to agree with that. Amazon hasn’t been selling that many G60 units so far and thus it has decided to offer a $200 discount on the G60. The phone is available now for just $100 but would you really buy it? The Droid is in the house and it costs only $199.99 while the Droid Eris is going to be available for $99.99.
