SoundofMotion adds another handy application that can be integrated with Android smartphones with the release of VeloComputer7. This latest software virtually transforms mobile phones into GPS and tracking devices, a useful addition for the cyclists who often embark on long journeys.

It comes with a built-in accelerometer and all a cyclist has to do is attach the phone to his bike or his tights and he can get the proper navigation support. Likewise, it helps keep track of the pedaling done by the person, the built-in accelerometer detects up and down leg motion and calculates cadence in rotations per minute or RPM. This technology frees the bicycle from any sensors on a crankshaft.

VeloComputer is now available on Android Market, BlackBerry App World and Sony-Ericsson PlayNow Arena in 9 languages and retails for $14.95.

Nokia N900 rendered

Last week we brought you a preview of Nokia’s Maemo 5 powered N900, and now we bring you the first official press renders of the device.

If you’re just checking in, the N900 is said to feature a 3.5 inch screen, accelerometer, 5MP camera, 32GB of internal storage and GPS, among other things.

As for a release date, well, considering Nokia hasn’t even officially released the above image yet, I think it’s safe to say it’s still a ways off.

Motorola’s New W7 Active Edition

W7 Active Edition

W7 Active Edition

As the name implies, Motorola’s new w7 Active Edition slider is aimed at those sporty types, with its built-in pedometer and personal trainer application. It appears that Moto is jumping on the accelerometer bandwagon with this phone since users can control functions on the phone with simple hand gestures:

Shake up your everyday phone experience by controlling MOTO W7 using simple hand gestures, taps and flicks. Flip the phone over to silence the ringer of an incoming call, snooze the alarm clock or pause the music. Shake twice to instantly launch your favorite application, such as the music player. When showing off your photo albums or music libraries, flick the phone right or left to move between songs and images.

The Moto W7 also features a 2.0 megapixel camera and it runs on a 3G network. It appears that only customers in Latin America and Asia will be able to use this in the foreseeable future.

The resolution leaves a lot to be improved but the problem of blurred images is apparent from shots taken with the iPhone. However, a software aims to change all that and it comes in the form of the ProCamera software.

ProCamera uses the iPhone’s built-in accelerometer to judge when the phone is being held steady, and waits for that moment to shoot the picture–certainly an innovative use of the technology. A self-timer is part of the package, with a good and loud beeping countdown, perfect for taking the occasional self-portrait. The app also shows you a tilt-meter, a circular image that lets you know if your picture is on the straight and level.

If keeping your phone straight and getting constantly blurry images are big problems for you, ProCamera may offer a solution to your camera troubles. If you are looking for more control over your images in addition to that nifty self-timer, you may want to look elsewhere.

ProCamera is compatible with any iPhone running the iPhone 2.1 software update.
